About 2 weeks ago my DD was mucking around jumping off the lounge and she fell and hit her front teeth on the bookcase
About a week ago I started thinking her tooth had a bit of a grey look about it but I wasn't sure. Since then it's got progressively darker and I can now tell it's definitely changing colour :hissy:
She says it doesn't hurt and it's not loose - just going grayish. Has anyone had this, do I need to go to the dentist (really don't want to because it's going to be a major drama for miss princess...but of course I will if we have to). Will this resolve on it's own??

sounds like what my brother had, he hit his when he fell onto cement & the nerves died. It turned black. Pretty sure there is not alot u can do about it now. My brother ended up getting it capped as he also chipped it, then had 2 wait til he stopped growing & get a permanent crown on it.

One of my mum's teeth did that after a root canal, and the dentist said the root canal had failed and the tooth nerve had died. It doesn't sound good. If it was me I'd take her to the dentist.

This happened to DS when he hit his front tooth on our rought iron bed. His tooth went grey but then changed back to a darker colour of his other teeth iykwim. I took him to the dentist and he said there's not much they can do. The nerves will probably die but being their baby tooth it might fall out a bit earlier than the others.
Unless she is pain I wouldn't bother about going to the dentist.

I have to say that I was going to say the same as the others, it sounds like the nerve has died.

If it's a baby tooth don't stress too much
This happened to DS1 and I freaked although didn't end up at the dentist. It was bumped and took ages to turn grey but I've left it and it has gone back to a touch darker than his normal teeth. :fingerscrossed: this happens for you

Yeah happened to me when I was little (4/5/6 ish).
I was running around hte backyard with a toy trumpet in my mouth and tripped and knocked my tooth.
Ended up needing to be pulled.
Wasn't a massive deal... once Mum took me to a KIDS dentist. I wouldn't have a bar of the regular dentist - freaked the hell out of me. I even have memories of it - I remember just screaming at that saliva vacuum thing they have...
Yeah, this has actually happened to me as an adult - I don't actually remember any trauma happening (maybe it was during a teenage drinking session LOL) but one of my front teeth is a fair bit darker than the rest of them. I intend to have a veneer put over it when I can afford it - maybe in a year or two.
Can I just say that just because the tooth has changed colour, does not necessarily mean that the nerves have died.:no:
My DS knocked his tooth on heaven only knows what last year, and his tooth went grey. I took him to see our paediatric dentist, who told me that one of 2 things could happen:
1. that the nerve will have been damaged, and may die. If that happened then the tooth would need to be removed.
OR (and the more likely scenario)
2. that the tooth was just bruised, and within 4-6 weeks the grey would fade and the tooth would return to normal colour. In DS's case, this is exactly what happened.
I'd take her to get it checked out, JIC, but wouldn't fret that the tooth is permanently damaged just yet.
Yep, what Roxy said.
It is possible that the tooth is dead. The dentist needs to check it, if there is an infection or a risk of infection, it will be removed, otherwise, the dentist may just leave it there until it falls out naturally around 6/7 years old. They will need you to look out for signs of infection though.
Another possibility is, if the greyness started immediately after the injury, then it is just bleeding/bruising within the tooth and the colour will go back to normal and all will be OK.
You do need to see a dentist though.

Lucy did this to her front tooth about 6 months ago. She fell and hit it on the floor, it went a really dark colour and has never returned to its normal colour. Iv taken her the dentist and she wouldnt even let him touch it. He said it was best to leave it till it fell out on its own accord. Doesnt look very nice though...

:wave:Not sure how you went but my DD and DS just went to their first trip to the dentist. DS was a bit shy but they are REALLY good with children. Our area has all childrens visits for $27, which I think is very cheap and they get in quickly..
I think all children should go to the dentist it's the only way they can get use to it and feel less scared than I do when I go.

My 3yr old DD knocked her tooth out the other day on the corner of a door,... front tooth,.. totally out. I replaced it in the gum and packed it with ice,..and off to the dentist we went. 4 weeks later and it has reattached:D it is a slightly different colour,..butu that seems to be fading:)
Go to the dentist,...then at least you can stop worrying about it.
hi,
I agree with Roxy about the tooth. It may just be bruised and that is the colour that it turns to. It if was in an adult, posible that root canal therapy may be warranted but since it is baby teeth this is not an issue.
Also agree with other posters, a trip to the dentist will certainly put your mind at ease.
Hope that is just bruised and that should go away in time (the colour, not the tooth that is!)
