I had my first acupuncture treatment last night. I was so embarrassed, she put all the needles in & my eyes got watery & the tears started flowing, I just couldn't stop them. For some reason I just felt totally overwhelmed by it all. She was very supportive, said I was brave to have acupuncture when I was scared of needles but I still felt pathetic and embarrassed.
Anyway she said she wanted to see me weekly until my EPU, which is between 24\4-28th. But then she said she is booked up, so will only be able to see me for another treatment just prior to the EPU. She also said she could give DH a treatment just prior, preferable the day before which will give his swimmers a boost.
Does anyone know, would just 2 treatments beforehand be enough?? And 1 for DH??
What experience have other people had?

Hi and Welcome:wave:
Dont worry about the tears, its natural and we are all allowed to have a good cry!!!
I am not sure of all the ins and outs of acupuncture as I have not had it before, but I read something interesting about it yesterday in Mother & Baby...
...good news for IVF mums-to-be: a recent preliminary study by the University of Maryland in the US has shown that women who used acupuncture when undergoing IVF increase their chances of becoming pregnant by up to 65%. The researchers compared the results of 1366 women who had IVF treament, some of whom had an acupuncture session within one day of the embryo transfer, and found that the needles definitely boosted the pregnancy rate....
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your cycle.

Hi Jesmon
I am by no means an expert at this, but when I started my acupuncture I was advised that it was ideal to start approx 3 months before your cycle to enable them to have the best opportunity of regulating your cycle and improving egg quality etc. She also said that this wasn't the be all and end all though and that any acupuncture during IVF cycle is good.
My treatment has been weekly from about a month prior to my cycle, with a session prior to egg pickup, and another the day after transfer. I do believe it is worth it, if nothing else but for the feeling of relaxation during treatment. If it were me, I would probably see if there was another clinic close by to you that would allow you to have your weekly visits. Otherwise I don't see that you would receive the complete benefits that acupuncture has to offer.
Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps, I might ring & see if I can get in somewhere else. A 65% increase in the success rate sounds great to me!!!
Becstor05, good luck with the 2WW, I've got everything crossed for you that it's a BFP!!!

Hi Jesmon
I had acupuncture during my last stim cycle. I had it weekly for a while and then the night before my EPU, the night before my transfer and a few hours after the transfer. I had quite a few sessions because I find acupuncture very relaxing, and I figure that's got to help. A recent show on TV about acupuncture and IVF (see this thread http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=168412) was very interesting, and the woman who got pregnant had only three sessions.
I think the three I have outlined above are very important from what I understand, but it's something you can't overdo so I had as many as I could fit in.
Good luck with it all.
