DF leaves for re-entry on the 22nd so Ive just started going through all our stuff while he's still here so I dont throw out anything he wants to keep lol
Does anyone have any moving tips for me for when were posted to Wagga?
How did you find Toll transistions when you moved? were they good?
any tips would be appreciated as this is the first time ive done this...Or moved this far away (9 hours from our current home) either.

Hi Pennylane,
good luck with your removal to Wagga. How exciting. When u arrive at your new location, it would be a good idea to get the removalists to unpack general goods (basically everything they pack) so u can see whether anything has been broken in transition, that way u will be able to claim for any breakages. We have always had great service from Toll transitions. DHA have been less then helpful, sometimes, but that depends on the individual. I found that when we moved to Cairns our removals case manager wasn't the most helpful but when we got here, the DHA people were just wonderful. And that was a move from Victoria to Cairns.
Are u driving or flying there? We have always drove, just because to us it is like a bit of an adventure. It sounds so corny, i know.
U pretty much only have to pack personal belongings. You will probably get some cartons from Toll a few weeks before u move. Anyway take it easy, cheers Sam
Great stuff. Have you done all the paperwork for DHA and lodged the inventory yet ? That's the first step and you can do your inventory online if you haven't already.
You should get a pre-removal survey to make sure what is on the inventory is correct but also it's more for sizing and to decide on how many containers ie one or two.
Once you've had that done you can have yoru boxes anytime after that (so we were told) but we were like months ahead so if it's a month prior, give Toll a ring to say you want your boxes.
At the new locality we usually get the removal guys to unpack our valuables/breakables ie tv/video/dvd players, crockery, glasses etc for the reason samsgirls mentioned .. so you can claim if they are broken. The removal guys write that down on their copy of the inventory too.
We usually fly to our destination as our car wouldn't make it and i'm the only driver cos DH doesn't have a license. grrr
I would LOVE to have the experience of driving and seeing our beautiful country. I think my son will end up sharing the driving when we do Australia lol.
It's very exciting moving and seeing new places before settling into the dulldrums of life and routine again.

Thanks for the tips guys.
DF has to do his basic training again first so weve been told  by some people and then told he hasnt by others and he's supposed to leave on the 22nd  and we call them every day and his case manager is always out or on a day off and no-one else will give us any info.VERY FRUSTRATING!
so Just in case they turn around and tell him were all moving together shortly and he's not doing basic training again ive printed out all the inventory paperwork myself and were doing it tonight. Since weve recieved absolutely nothing from DHA I want to be ready.
Were supposed to find out whats going on come Monday at 8:30am so fingers crossed everything gets sorted then so I know whats actually going on lol.
I 'think' we will be flying only because it will be just me and my dd and I havent had my licence for very long and ive never driven that long a distance. But we'll see what happens.I might try it.

Pack your remotes yourself!!! We didn't and now have a completely useless digital set top box. Toll will not replace either as we are supposed to pack ourselves, (apparently). This is despite their contractor packing them before we had finished our priority items.
If you have an issue report it straight away or Toll will pretty much suggest right to your face that you are trying to rip them off.
In our case we reported it two weeks after moving in, (on the Monday after the Saturday we tried to set it up, when we noticed the remote was missing).
And DO NOT let the removalists leave until all your electrics are in place and set up so they can note everything.
Sorry to sound so sour. Am still battling away on this one.

wow that sucks your still battling them concernedparent, Thanks heaps for that info I'll let DF know about all that as he's an electrition by trade and he'll make sure everythings working.before they leave
So glad your getting organised. We're still trying to get things done :hair:
Definately try and get your inventory done nice and early.
Toll transitions are normally great but the last bunch we dealt with didnt really pack very well so we'll be keeping an eye on things that get unpacked when we finally get a new place.
Try and get things cut off like pay tv nice and early, our box got lost then Foxtel tried to charge us over $300 because their courier didnt pick up the box like we arranged.
And try to take the moving experience as a chance to get rid of any extra junk that you have. We were quite brutal on our second move.
Good luck with it all hope things go well :)

Thanks Amira- weve just gotten started on our inventory so it will be done in plenty of time so we dont have to worry about it
Good idea about getting rid of junk! Ive been chucking HEAPS of stuff out this past week so were not unpacking stuff and then just throwing it away when we get to our posting lol
DO a walk around your house with the removalists before they leave and before you sign any paper work.
To make sure they have packed/taken every thing that they have too. To all so make sure they have not damaged any thing in the house. They damaged the walls in our last house. :hair:
We are still trying to get the money pack from them or from toll. We moved Nov last year.
If they have damaged any thing ring Toll there and then before signing there paper work.
Good luck

ok so here is what i have learnt...
*Do a walk around first to let them know of any tricky items, or anything you may want special care for...
*When they have finished a room check it!!! and close the door. Constantly remind them if they have forgotten stuff.
*Have a friend come over to take eveything they won't pack... matches, aerosol cans, opened honey, gas bottles.
*Order Pizza for you and the removalist, this means that they like you more and they wont leave for lunch meaning they work longer, order cans/bottles of drink so you dont need cups and everythign can be thoen out.
*In the last on first out box... you may want to pack a few essentials... toilet rolls, remote controls, phone, kettle, coffee, cups, coke cans, lollies anything you can think off that you may want need. In a hurry!
*Think about where you want things before the removalists start unpacking, it will help. Also labelling rooms (sounds sills but helps) With masking tape label on the doors main room, spare room junk room. So they all know where everything needs to go.
*The removalist will try to get out of your new place asap. They must un pack every box they packed so if you want them to make them. I personally make them unpack breakable things.. but books and magazines are fine to leave.
* I also request from toll extra boxes as soon as i can so I can start to pack thing i dont care about... Books, clothes, blankets, sheets, bathroom, also this is a great way to pack things they may not pack..This way it will be quicker to get the house packet and the romovalists out.
*Put labels on power cords that unplug from the unit. we still have 3 cord that we have no idea what they plug into and we can't find the power cord for our answering machine... masking tape again works great.
*The emovalist put sticky labels on everything so again on the first wlk through it there is something that you particularly don't want a sticky thing on see if there is an alternative, or can it be packed in a box.
This is all i can think of right now...
i hope this helps

The decision of moving to another place is however exciting, but packing up is something most of the people fear.It is better to hire professional movers if you want hazel free move and can afford it. But if you decide to move by yourself. here are some useful tips.
The first thing is to obviously make a game plan
1)First you need Make sure that you create a complete inventory of all your belongings that you will be moving to your new address
2)Make sure you have enough help and trucks/vans to load up your boxes
3)Before you start packing up your house, decide what you really need to bring into your new home. Many things lose their value or use over the years, but you still hang on to them
4)Do not wait until the last minute for packing. Start from that room which you do not use most
3)You will need to have the following materials in order to start packing.
Strong boxes, Wardrobe boxes, Bubble Wrap, newspaper, Markers etc
(http://www.boxyourstuff.com/)you can find lots of good information on Boxyourstuff (http://www.boxyourstuff.com/) site

We moved to Amberley at the end of Dec. When they came in and packed our stuff they packed everything, and I mean everything. We had organised for family to pick up food stuff and cleaning products etc that couldn't be packed but when they arrived to pick them up, they had already gone with the removalists! The down side of course was the cleaning products that had spilt all other other stuff and the horrendous smelling gone off food at the other end....:(
