View Full Version : When did your babe sleep through?

Hey All, just wondering when your baby started sleeping thought the night and what timeframes you classify as sleeping through? Eg. how long?

My babe goes down (generally!!) about 7pm then wakes between 12 - 1am for a feed and again around 4am then we start the day as usual at 7am.

Doesn't really bother me the way she's going, I think she's doing really well but if there were any tips re how I could stretch these times out I'd love a little more !! Dream feeds don't work for us either, she still wakes for the first feed around midnight.

Thanks in advance!
Jane

Depending on who you ask "sleeping through " has a few definitions. Some say 5-6 hrs, other 7-7 (12hrs). I know my ideal would be 7-7 but I'm living in a dream world. So 8-6.30ish. I don't start the day any earlier than 6am!! And then if this was to continue for 2 weeks I would successfully think my 7 mont old DS IS SLEEPING THROUGH!!!!!!!!!:smiliedance:
I think persistance with resettling and age of bub helps with stretching out feed/sleeping.
I found by 4mths DS went from 2 to 1 feed then by 6mths I stopped overnight feeds coz he would wake and I'd assume he wanted to be feed, then he would fall asleep on the boob. He just wanted to be resettled.

I have always been extremely lucky with my DS. He has been sleeping through (7:30pm - 7:30am) since he was 7 weeks old. I used to wake him up for a feed at 10:30pm up until he was 6 months but after that we stopped doing that.

I don't have any advice to give you because it just has been easy for us. I did notice that he started sleeping through the night when we put him in his own room but I understand that a lot of people are uncomfortable with doing that.

Everyone told us to be happy while it lasts because babies sleeping habits change but he is nearly 19 months now and still sleeping well. I just hope that when we have another one that it's as easy as this one!

my bubs wanted to sleep through from birth, but in the hosp i was continually told to wake her up and get her to feed. I continued to do this when I got hom for a couple of nights and then after ALOT of people telling me to leave her I did. Now she sleep from 8-6am with a feed at 2, but every other night she doesn't need it. (she's almost a month)

I would consider sleeping through 8-6. I think alot of mums consider sleeping through when their baby doesn't wake them up.

I would also have to say that she sleeps more solidly if I give her formula before bed and at her 2am wake... sometimes if she has had plenty during the day I give her warm water at 2 just to get her back off to sleep.

She is gaining weight like a trooper which is why I use water.... warm water has sort of saved me in the middle of the night. She only has 10 minutes worth before she is back to sleep, and I don't waste a whole bottle of milk!!:):):)

Jedd is almost 11mths now, and began sleeping through the night at about 7 months. We did go to Karitane for a week though, but it wasn't til about a week later that he began sleeping through from 8pm til 6am. Sometimes he wakes up at about 3am'ish and has a bit of a call out - but he can usually get himself back to sleep

DD 'slept through' from 11pm until about 5am when she was 9 weeks old. It took MUCH longer than that for her to actually sleep an 8 - 12 hour block, and then she reverted. These days, she'll wake once or twice during the night and need comforting - and she's not-quite-3 years old...

Stopped co-sleeping.:(

He started going into his own bed for a sleep at 5 then just didn't wake up till the morning. The first time it happened I freaked out and thought I'd lost him in my bed lol then realised how he was STILL asleep from his afternoon sleep.

I was sad, I really miss our cuddles but hey if it means he is happier.

Every now and then I get all sad and bring him in after the 8th time he wakes up then I am not so sad lol.

DS is 2 this month and still isnt sleeping thru.

Although he does sleep quite well, wakes once a night which I dont mind...

However he screams for a bottle of milk and gets himself very worked up when he wakes to the point that sometimes it can take ages to settle him, which can be quite annoying at 2am

My DS has been sleeping 12 hour nights (7:30pm - 7:30am) from about 12 weeks, which coincidentally coincided with the time I started to use a grobag. I could never swaddle him as he is such a mover and a shaker; he would always wiggle his way out of the wrap, which I'm sure was what would wake him up. Now he is as snug as a bug in a rug in his grobag, and he can wiggle as much as he likes and not wake himself up from an unravelling wrap.

My little DD started sleeping through from 6 weeks. She has at least 10 hours of straight sleep every night.

Oh they sure are. You know lately my ex mil has been saying everytime she sees me, "oh you look tired" and i didn't really think i did, but yesterday... Woah, i could see the faint darkness under my eyes even after putting make up on. I don't want to imagine what i'll look like in a few more years ha ha  Thanks boys, hey? Lol.

my DS used to sleep from around 8 till 5am with a dream feed at 10pm from 1 week old.

my DD started sleeping through from about 11pm till 6am at 10 weeks.

Now both of them sleep 10-12 hrs a night and are wonderful sleepers :)

My eldest would go to sleep between 9-10pm and would wake up just after 7am from 1 1/2 weeks old! He was the perfect baby!!!

My youngest would go down at 8pm and would wake up at 5am this went on till he was roughly 7-8 months old.. now he sleeps through..

Most mornings I have to wake the boys up.. especially mon-fri to get the eldest ready for kindy!

11 weeks old my DD started sleeping 11 hours. She went up to 12 hours at about 6 months and is now 17 months and is still a 7pm-7am girl. Dont know how this happened but we know we are VERY lucky!!

Thats when Jedd started sleeping through as well. After we came home from Christmas holidays we thought we would put him in his cot - plus were going to Karitane. Neither of us slept very well when we were co-sleeping. Would be up every 2hrs and I would wake up so sore from sleeping so rigidly.

If he is having a particularly bad night every now and again I will bring him into bed with me. And we still spend at least an hour in bed every morning when he wakes up to have a feed and a cuddle :hugs:

The definition of "sleeping through" is a period of 5 hours in a row. Mine slept through from night one, but went more than 5 hours. She had her last feed at 10pm, slept until 6am. At a couple of months old she was sleeping from 6pm to 6am, then feeding and having another 2 hours. But technically "sleeping through" is a 5 hour period and parents shouldn't expect a child to sleep through the night every night until 5 years of age. So I'm very lucky I've only had maybe half a dozen sleepless nights with her, and they were times when she was sick or we were at the hospital and in the emergency room.

Well for the past few nights bubs has been sleeping for long 1st night 9 hrs, 2nd night 11 hrs (and woken up by Daddy - really, really full breasts by this time!!) and 3rd night 9 hrs! So I think this is sleeping thru for me. Bubs usually goes down b/w 7-8pm usu by 7.30pm. I started a new thing with feed first, than bathtime and reading books with Dad and than off to bed within 1-1.5hrs from feed (usu see tired signs!!). This has worked well for us b/c I think she used to wake at 1-2am wanting re-settling but I mistook it for a feed and b/c she assoc sleep with a feed! So during the day also doing feed play sleep thing!

I guess I can answer this one quite confidently!
Sarah (11 1/2 months old) started sleeping through this Wednesday!!:smiliedance::smiliedance::smiliedance: .
This was following a day stay at sleep school the previous week. She used to get up at least 5 times a night and co slept with us for two weeks.
Now she gets breastfed at 7pm, a rollover feed at 10pm and sleeps through till 6.30am.

So now I can gladly say that I feel like :sunshine:

Luka, when he was just past one... and now he's pretty reliable, might wake up on the odd occasion but will go back down really easily...

Felix... well... he turned one last month and has just recently slept through... twice actually.

Lol, I was so used to not having a full night's sleep that I woke up feeling like my head was stuffed with cotton wool !

Ok well if sleeping through is considered a 5hr block then Boof has done this on many occasions but its never consistant !

Squeak did it from what 6wks .... But then having intolerance & allergy issues can do that when it makes you comatose !!!!!

Yep i hear ya ally! Sure pete has slept in five hour blocks but never consistent. This is a run down of our 'usual' night, times do vary though. Pete asleep by 8pm, wakes at around 1am, then wakes around 4am and then up by 6.30am the latest. I don't class it as sleeping through. This is an improvement of what he used to be. Sometimes he wakes up more than that but most nights that's how it goes. No day naps either. Going on four years this year so hopefully by the time he's five he'll be better.

8-1 is a 5 hour block and therefore "sleeping through" :D

My DD is 10 months and 7 days old and slept through the night for the very first time 2 nights ago, and again last night!! :yelclap:

Both times she has slept from 7pm-6:15am

Not sure how or why, but I hope this is the beginning many more good nights!

Previously she was waking btween 1-3 times a night.

Boof goes to bed at 7pm & is sometimes asleep by 7.30pm but mostly around 9pm or so.

He then wakes at 11pm, 11.30pm, 11.45pm, 1am, 2am, 3am, 3.30am then if often up raring to go at 5am ** .... Shame mummy isnt

I considered DD to be sleeping through when she slept 10+ hours, which luckily for us was at about 2 months. She was sleeping 8 or 9 hours from 4 weeks.

Sleeping for a 5 hour block overnight, DD1 did that from about 12 weeks,
Sleeping 8-10 hours didn't come until about 12 months when she was night weaned.

We are yet to see with DD2, hopefully it will be better as she seems more settled, but it's all in the spectrum of normal, hey?!
