Hi,

Just wondering, what should you take while TTC?

Anything thats a must?

Also to make things easier:

Should vitex be taken the whole cycle?
Should Primrose Oil be taken the whole Cycle?

Thank you in advance

Elodie

French_gal, Primrose oil should be taken for the entire cycle for it to be effective, I'm not sure about Vitex cause I haven't used that one.

Another good one for ttc is folic acid, it is advised to take this one month prior to conception and during pregnancy (it reduces the chances of having a baby with spina bifida).

I also took multivitamins (prescribed by a naturopath), but generally speaking Blackmores brand are very good.

Goodluck!:fingerscrossed:

i have read that vitex is not recommended for pregnancy and should be stopped as soon as you are pregnant.

A good multi vitamin aimed at pregnancy sould be all that you need i would think, that along with a gentle excercise regime and a well balanced diet... :D

Hello, it is recommended that you take Folate at least one month before conception and during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. I am pretty sure that the baby's neural tube starts developing before you may even know you are pregnant, so you really should start taking it when you are trying to conceive or ideally before you start trying.

My obstetrician recommended I take elevit before conception and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is available only from the chemist. It contains vitamins and minerals for pregnancy and lactation (including Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12, Vitamin C, D3 and E, Folic Acid (Folate), Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Copper, Manganese and Zinc). It is Gluten Free.

Otherwise, if you do not want to take a multivitamin, have Folate on its own. I know Blackmores make Folate/Folic Acid (500mcg) for women who are planning pregnancy or are pregnant.

I have read that you should only have multivitamins designed for pregancy because an excess of some vitamins and minerals can be dangerous to the baby. For example you should not take a Multivitamin with Vitamin A (retinol or beta-carotene) because high doses of retinol have been linked to foetal abnormailities. Vitamin A/Retinol can also be in some skin care products which should be avoided also apparently.

There are a couple of pregnancy vitamins on the market. From my experience, I found that a pharmacist or their assistants can help you chose a vitamin that is right for you and pregnancy. Ask your doctor too!

Hope this helps.

I also recommend Elevit, I have been taking it whilst TTC and will now continue with it throughout pregnancy. You also save about $24 if you buy the 100 pack instead of the 30 pack.

I took Elevit for a whole week, but the whole time I took it I felt nauseous. I started thinking it was pregnant, but it turns out that I wasn't. The day after I stopped taking Elevit the nausea stopped aswell.

I haven't spoken to the dr about this yet but I'll bring it up at my next appointment. Has anyone else heard about this side effect?

I've now just gone back to taking Blackmore Folate, I'd prefer a multi-vitamin but I think the Blackmores pregnancy/breastfeading multi only has 400mg of folate.

Have you tried taking the elevit again since you've been feeling better to see if it actually was the vitamins?

Multivitamins can cause nausea, I think it's something to do with getting such a big whack of vitamins to process all at once. If you feel you need a multi it might help to take them with food (if you don't already), or to take half a tablet in the morning and half in the evening. But if you have a reasonably good diet you may not really need them. Goodluck, I hope you stop feeling :barf:

Harlequin, I haven't tried going back on the vitamins, I might wait and see what the Dr says first. I'm taking folate, so that's what's most important.
