my little boy turns 2 on the 25th of may.

i dont want to have a birthday party as last year we had way to much food, hardly anyone showed up. and the house gets left trashed. so not in the mood for that.. :p

hes young and at the moment he wont really know if he has a party or not.

so i was thinking about taking him with my family (his grandparents, aunty, and me and my partner) going up to victor harbour and going on a steam train and then out for lunch.. (hes a huge thomas fan and gets excited when he sees buses go past. im thinking that would be an enjoyable day.

but im just wondering what other ideas there are.. like the zoo.. bbq at a park.. anything really... whats fun to do for a birthday that doesnt involve a birhtday party?? even if on a seperate day after i do the family thing i organised to pay for a few of his kiddy friends to go to the play and fun cafe.

how common is it to not have a birthday party for your child? and is it always really needed? i think a day with family will be just as nice.

hi jennababe

i HAD to respond as your DS and I share the same birthday! :D

for my Ds' 2nd birthday we took him to wiggles world at dreamworld, just me, dp and him. He LOVED it!!!

The zoo sounds good too, as kids that age love animals etc.

Anyways, good luck, and happybirthday to your gemini boy :D

I think a bbq at a park sounds good. We did this for DD's 1st birthday and it was great bc there was a playground and lots of room for kiddies to run around. I didnt have to worry bout anyone making a mess at home either.

Otherwise the zoo or one of those indoor playgrounds sounds good too. You can bring a picnic lunch to the zoo and everyone goes home from there. :)

I think that going to Victor Harbour with the family would be a great idea. A day at the zoo is also a fantastic idea. You could even take a ride on the Popeye afterwards (if it is still running).

My DS doesn't turn 2 until September but I have already been saying that he is not going to have a party. I think I am going to wait until he is in school before I have a party for him with other little kids.

I don't have any ideas for you but I think the ideas that you have already come up with are great.

DD is 2 on Mothers Day. We are going to the zoo and having a picnic lunch there to celebrate both.

When I was a kid it was not the norm to have a party every year. We just got our present in the morning when we woke up and a cake after dinner at night.

With my girls, all the rellos want a piece of them. My youngest usually likes to go to a Malaysian Restaurant and my eldest likes Sizzler. No cleaning up, and everyone can pay for themselves.

Now they are older, they prefer having a friend sleep over, so we have an "at home" day for the rellos, where the birthday child will recieve visitors and gifts, but no specific food, drink or entertainment is expected by the guests  (you would think they were Marie Antoinette or Queen blinking Victoria!)

You may be surprised - he might remember. Chanel (3 in July) remembers her birthday last year!

Honestly though, I think he'd have better memories of going out and doing something fun with family than having a party... especially considering he's too young to do much at them other than eat and unwrap presents...

We took Chanel to an animal park for hte day, and had a BBQ there. Just kept it all in hte car in an esky and got it out when we were ready... then continued to look at the animals.

She loved it - even if she was a bit scared of some of them at first... she loved petting others (like little chicks, or calves, kangaroos and deer).

Great thread!
I'm having the same thoughts for my DD's second birthday. I'm loving your ideas. Seaworld sounds like a great idea:thumbsup:.
Parks are always great fun to go to for a bbq also.
I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread.

I'm leaning towards sea world for ds second birthday too. Haven't decided if it should just be me and him or invite some friends too.
