Hi guys,
Im researching IVf at the moment and have noticed that Westmead in Vicotoria seems fantastic for those doing ivf on a budget.
Is there anything out there like this anywhere else, im in Brisbane. Does anyone else do similar like charge only out of pocket expenses and directly bills Medicare?
Thanks.

OMG i am seriously considering the cost of travelling there just for IVF . I reckon it would be wayyyy worth it! Now who do i know in Sydney . I wonder how that would work though with blood tests etc hmmm (says the girl whos never even left the state before).
Its such a shame its the only one! How dare these companies make money off our misery  I need to start a petition!

I have been at westmead since 2006 and still love it my only problem is i am about to turn the lovely age of 43 and unfortunately that is there cut of age so this cycle will proberbly be my last.
I was hoping there was another clinic in the sydney area that charge around the same price $1450 so if anyone can help i would be very grateful. All the clinics i have heard of are way expensive.
HELP!!!

:iagree: Its a disgrace that these clinics can charges these prices. I know one Sydney IVF clinic made 18 million dollars profit in 2005. The problem is we are sooooo desperate and will just about pay anything if we think it is going to get us what we long for. IVF is big business, and we thought it was just about babies....
I am a Westmead girl too. I lived about 1.5 hours away. Had my bts done locally (and had to pay for them about $60.00 and they faxed the results to the clinic) because Westmead charge under the "global fee" schedule. It means they bill Medicare for the balance of what we dont pay, so Medicare wont pay twice IUKWIM.
Travelling, its something seriously worth considering. Best of luck to you!!!!

I am also a Westmead gal too. i did another cycle wih a "BIG" clinic late last year, and after miscarrying, we decidied to change, as we are not made of money!!! We are roughly 2.5-3 hours away from westmead, but with the difference is costs, we can do 4 cycles for the same we paid upfront last time :)

Peppa, how many blood tests do you need?
What if you need ultrasounds, would medicare cover that or not?

On a regular IVF cycle - I had three blood tests, and one ultrasound. One blood test was on the day of the ultrasound which was about 4 days before epu. I went to the clinic for the ultrasound.
The first bt day 7 of injections to determine ultrasound date, bt on ultrasound day and one more bt the day before epu.
When we did the FET there were a lot more bts because I ovulated late.
A lady I work went through the Wesley for her IVF, and she said there were a few doctors that did it for no gap.
Ill ask her tomorrow and come back to you.
If I forget pls PM me to chase me up ;)

Hi
I am new to this site and finding it very helpful.
We are currently with IVF Aust and they are very expensive. My hubby reserached and found out about Westmead and are seriously cosidering transferring over.
How are the waiting times to get an appt? Parking how is that on the premises?
We have had two IVF cycles, first we were successful and fell pregnant but MC at 9.5 weeks, but I suppose we know we can fall pregnant.
Second cycle unfortunately not successful and are about to try our third.
Any info would greatly help!
