This is really just in the ideas stage at the mo'.

We wouldn't be getting married until mid to late next year....once I have lost all my preggy flabber!!!

Has anyone else rented out a large home ie 6 plus bedrooms for their wedding?

We want a very small, informal, intimate gathering of friends and relatives - maybe only 20 people.

There are some fantastic properties around Byron - Northern NSW & SE QLD - that although can be say $2000 a week - are much more costs effective as I doubt we will have a honey moon and we would like to do a sort of cocktail party afterwards.....DP says sort of like a posh BBQ!

It would also work well as most of our friends have smaller children - which means they could come along.

Anyone have any experience having a similar type wedding?

Me and DP have been engaged for 6 years....I told him he will need to re-propose to me before we get married cause it's been sooooo long!!!!

i thought about it for mine

and if we had the small wedding we should have had it would have been fine - but our guest list kept growing so it wasn't practical anymore for us - but i say go for it.

maybe keep in mind hiring a caterer or person to do the cooking and cleaning on teh day so you don't have to worry about that too.

Yes a friend of mine rented two large houses on Stradbroke Island for a week(next to each other) and had the wedding, reception and honeymoon all in one location. They also hired a caterer/cleaner and guests had the option of staying if they wished (from 1-7 nights).
In lieu of gifts, guests contributed $$ towards the cost, and it was a fun relaxing time for all (esp the overseas guests who stayed, as they could catch up with the couple after the wedding).
Each house cost $1400 for a week, and one had 4 bedrooms, the other 3. So it allowed for 12 people to stay in addition to the couple. There is also the cost of ferry transfers to consider. Not sure how much the caterer/cleaner cost, as they were friends of the couple.

Not a bad idea for a family friendly, small wedding, plus as you can go away on your own afterwards as newlyweds if the idea of a shared honeymoon isn't your thing.
