Im having trouble feeding my 4 month old. She is really hard to give a bottle to and seems to fight it all the way. Sometimes she acts like shes drowning, ive tried different possitions (laying down - easiest, sitting up - wont feed at all) she will take it eventually but she sucks a few times then pulls away grizzly. Her morning bottle she takes without a hassle i think because shes super hungry after sleeping through so i dont think its a case of the taste. And she does want a feed so its not a case of her not being hungry. Im thinking its the bottle type. At the moment im using the Tommee Tippee Close to Nature bottles as i was BF at first but she faught that so id EBM feed but my milk dried up.
Does anyone have any ideas? im considering buying an advent bottle to see if the different teat works.
i just want feeding times to be easy and not traumatic for her

any advise would be great thankyou :)

My ds went through phases of fighting his bottle that I'd totally forgotten about until I saw your post!

It was so upsetting at the time because I just wanted him to drink. To tell you the truth I still don't know why he did it, but it eventually passed. He used Tommee Tippee variflow teats from the time he started on the bottle till now (but he's down to one a day!:yelclap:Soooo much easier...)

It could be your bubbas teeth... They can get them at 4 months and even if they don't appear for quite a while they could be moving now and hurting. I think this might be why ds faught feeds.

I know how hard it is, at one point I took my baby to the doctor just so he could check him out and tell me there was nothing physically wrong which made me feel a little better.

I just recommend you do what you need to so that you'll feel better. Trying a different teet cant hurt. We did that too but he hated all the others! How's the bottle temperature? Maybe she'd like it cooler (or warmer if you give it cool now)?

:hugs:It's so stressful, but it passes and she'll be just fine.

I agree that it could be teeth moving and / or temperature. My DS however did the same thing and I ended up having to start him on solids, as he was hungry but wouldn't drink. So something to try would be put bonjela on gums give it a minute to work then try the bottle or change temp of the milk.

Hope i am of some help.

Sounds to me like the teat on the bottle is to fast. U could try a slower teat.

Yeah it could be the teat i guess.

I have a 5.5month old ds and he did a similar thing at about 4 months (and still sometimes does). I found that he would feed better if i lay him on the bed next to me, or in the bouncer, or in the pram, just NOT on my lap!! It was really frustrating, but he got over it and now is 'back to normal'. I think he was going through lots of things, ie. developmental, maybe teething, starting to move more. and he just didn't want to be held for a time. It upset me at the time, but now he is a lot more relaxed.

Oh, BTW, I use the Avent bottles and find them really good. I have bottlefed since ds was 8 weeks. I have found too, that when I have changed his teats to the faster flow, he struggled for a few days getting used to it.

My DD has done this since she was 4 weeks old. I have no idea why so I've got no advice for you. I've ruled out a lot of things like wind, silent reflux, teats (too fast/too slow) and a million other things that I or my CHN thought might make a difference but it never did.

I've just learnt to relax and let her take her time. Often she'll have a few 5-10 minute breaks before she'll come close to finishing a bottle. Hopefully, though, yours is just going through a stage and you won't have to deal with it for too much longer.
