HI EVERYONE! :)
I trust you all recieved the email! Thanks for all your replies! Now's the time to start an open discussion and start talking amongst each other. As well as canvassing ideas and coming up with suggestions, please feel free to also introduce yourself so that we can all get to know each other.
Some feedback on my initial suggestions stated in my email would also be useful. I understand we might all have clashing schedules, but we will try to work something out, even if we have to change the day from month to month (or week to week - depending on how enthusiastic we are!) Even if only a few of us end up meeting up, that will be great also.
Once again thanks for your help!
Lani
P.S. Anyone is welcome!

Hi everyone!
Thanks Lani for getting this playgroup idea up and running!
Bodhi and I are free most of the week... we have swimming on Tuesday mornings and Nursery Rhymes at the library on Mondays... other than that we are free.
I like the idea of having the playgroup at a park (NewFarm?)... even if we just had the first one there, and maybe alternated each week if there are other suggestions for meeting places.
Oh, I guess, I'd better introduce myself!:D
I'm Selina... 22... married... live at Wooloowin... My little man is Bodhi... he is 9 1/2 months old... he is just starting to come out of his shell and becoming interested in playing with other kiddies!
:smiliedance:
hi ladies!
ayisha and i are also free most of the time. we dont have much activity besides story telling in the library every tuesday.
gregory park (baroona road, paddington) is also a nice place for meet up. big place for bubs and kids. barbi machine also available.
anyway, im may and my daughter ayisha is turning 8 months on monday and we're from milton.
really looking forward for this playgroup.

well ive been trying to get a group going for about a month now and have also posted some threads.
My name is melinda and my two girls are alyssa and felicity. I would be happy to come to any of the outings that are out the redlands wynnum area.
I am single parent and am 23. I would love to make some new friends for myself and children.
If any one else is out my way i am also trying to start a group if anyone has any suggestions.
Hope to hear from you all soon
My name is Anna and I am 24years old with a 5month old baby named tyler. At present we live in New Zealand but we are moving over in May to the brisbane/gc area. I would love to make some contacts before we come so i dont feel so housebound when i get there.
I would love to stay in contact until I do get there and meet you all when i do.
Thanks

I don't know if there was another thread about this playgroup thing earlier on...if there was one, sorry I missed it. Is it okay if I still show interest in perhaps joining?
My name is Stacey, I'm 20 and have a little girl (Chanel) aged 8 months. We live in the Ipswich area at the moment...but I'm willing to travel.
I'm free just about every day...except every 2nd Thurs I attend a Young Mothers Group in Windsor.
I don't have ANY friends with babies (I've only been to the mothers group twice I think...so I have yet to get any friends there...and a lot of the girls there have much younger babies and are mostly fussing with them...as you do when you have a newborn)...so any friends with kids would be GREAT.
Erm...yeah...that's it. :)
Hi all!
Lani your a legend! I find it hard to find time to post on here, and here you are organising everything. Good on ya!
I guess i'll introduce myself for those who don't know me. I'm Melissa, 22, married and i have 2 girls, 15 months and 3 months. I'm a stay at home mum and i love it!
I live on the northside, but have a car so can go anywhere. Newfarm park sounds good. I went there once a long time ago - before kids and really enjoyed it.
I am available pretty much every day. I have mums group every 2nd Friday, but thats about it for me.
If anyone wants to add me to msn feel free. Its melpitt@gmail.com
Looking forward to meeting some of you lovely ladies! It'll be nice to meet mums my age! Most of my friends are in there 30's.
Cheers
Mel

Everyone seems to be pretty happy with the idea of having it at a park. I think there are many advantages of this including: There is usually free parking in the surrounding area of a park, it gets the little ones (and us!) outside of the house in the open air, there are playgrounds for them to play on and lots of grass for them to roll around on, no vacuuming (that’s a big one), lots of shady areas, and we don't have to worry about public liability.
Some suggestions so far have included: Oliegh park in west end. CB Mott Park in Holland Park. Gregory park (baroona road, Paddington). We could definitely do all of them eventually (love variety), but for now let’s pick one so we can concentrate on a day and time. Maybe we can start out at Newfarm Park and then alternate each week?
As far as times go, lets rule out the weekend (because people are usually doing other things). Since a few people (including myself), are busy Tuesdays, we will rule that out too. I am also busy on Thursdays. Wednesday is the only day that hasn’t been mentioned as a day that anyone is busy, so perhaps Wednesday mornings might be best. Monday and Friday still contenders (as long as it’s not in the alternating week that some of you are busy.
Also, all are welcome! Anyone who visits this thread who are interested please join in! The more the merrier!
As soon as we get a good number of people we can think about starting this thing!
Thanks to all who have made suggestions, keep ‘em coming…

I ve made a few threads in regards to play groups some of you have relised.
My idea is to get a group running in the redlands area targeting young and single parents.
I do not wish anyone to feel excluded but relised there seemed to be alot of groups that most were older and married so i thout i would start my own.
At this stage we are looking to go to playland possibly thursday 13th at 9 / 930 please if you would like to come along feel free please add your name to this list.
please feel free to look up any threads i may have posted as this group is listed on a few other threads.

Alrighty,
I think we’ve got enough people to get started! 10 people is a great start. If we end up getting more along the way then that’s great too. Shortlist for now is at the bottom of thread.
Just a quick note regarding the confusion over the Redlands Playgroup: If anyone is keen to go or lives in that area, contact Melindabust. I think she has posted elsewhere but if you click on her name you can view other threads she has posted to get information about it. This particular thread is regarding the “near the city” playgroup for young mums.
Secondly, a few notes to individuals:
Krissy, we’d love to see you there and please, bring your partner! The more the merrier! This goes for everyone! If you want to bring along friends or partners please do!
Mum2Lucas, what’s your name? So we can shortlist you.
Julie, 26 is certainly not too old, there is no cut off here – just the principal that I believe it easier to make friends with people who are of closer age to each other due to more commonalities. I’m going to be 25 in a month, 26 is only a year away!
I think Wednesday morning seems to be a good day for everyone. What kind of starting time does everyone think is best? 10:00am? 11:00am?
Is Newfarm Park suiting everyone at the moment? It really is a beautiful place and quite easy to get too. I can relay some very easy to follow directions to anyone who needs them. And the parking is good and free!
I’m going to put forward an initial plan – totally up for negotiation. I’m going to make it 2 weeks in advance so that everyone can pencil it in to their diaries and make sure they have nothing else on. Also, it may give a few more people the opportunity to come on board. If anyone can’t make it, we will work around it. Please inform me if this day is good or bad for you. And keep in mind we will probably rotate the locations to suit everyone eventually.
April the 19th. Wednesday morning at 10:00am. Newfarm Park.
Once again thanks for your feedback!

Hi all!
Now that we’ve all agreed on a date, time and location (Wednesday 19th of April, 10:30am, New Farm Park) let’s talk details…
You’re right Maree, New Farm Park is huge. I had thought about this in advance but my plans have been altered a little due to the death of my computer (he was old, and it was his time to go, yet he has left me without my photo album!). Therefore I have no photo of myself, which I was going to post but I will have to try and think around it.
There are 2 main playground areas in New Farm Park (i.e., playgrounds with equipment). The biggest one is the one on the Sydney Street side. I suggest we meet at the smaller one on the Lamington Street or Brisbane Powerhouse Museum side. I’ll send an email to anyone who needs it with a map where I have circled the place in yellow. If you need it, post your email address and I’ll send it to you.
Directions: If you’re coming from the South, after going over the story bridge turn right onto Wickham Street, then take a right onto either Warner or Ballow St, then another right onto Ann. Then, take a left onto Brunswick St and follow it all the way down to the river, from there, you can’t miss New Farm Park. I’m not sure what various routes some of you may be taking from the North because I’m not acquainted with the area, but as long as you can find Brunswick St in the Valley, just follow it to the river and you’re there!
Is everyone cool for the “bring a small box of toys” idea? Hang on, a bit of cut and paste is in order I think… I was thinking that if everyone brings a small box of toys (labelled, of course), then we could combine them all for all the kids to play with together (this way they all get to have a go of something new without us having to buy it for them!) and at the end of the day we all take our own toys back. Also, as far as morning tea goes, if everyone brings something (doesn’t matter what it is, doesn’t have to be healthy – we feed them enough healthy food at home as it is, plus, it’s a special occasion!), then we can all share, (once again, love variety).
Okay, in the case of rain… Let’s just assume it’s off. If it’s raining in the morning or looks as though it’s definitely going to rain, then it’s off and we’ll reschedule for the next week.
I think I might give everyone my number just in case anyone needs to check if it’s still on if they’re in doubt, or in the case that anyone gets lost on the road or even when they get to the park. I’ll include it in the email with the map.
Another shortlist for the road,
Lani - Izabella 24 months
Selina - Bodhi 9.5 months
May - Ayisha 8 months
Stacey - Chanel 8 months
Melissa - Julianna 15.5 months and Anjelita 3 months
Amanda - Oscar 13 months
Krissy - Summer 12 months
Julie - Aribella 10 months
Lou - Lurkey 4 months
Jemma - Mason 17 months
Kathryne - Jake 10.5 months
Maree – Lucas – 7 months
I have the oldest bubs! I hope she can still fit in though!
Thanks everyone again,
Lani
I am sure your little one will fit in fine with the rest of the bubs!;)
Can you add me to the list too?
Im katie, just turned 24 and Jake is almost 11 months.
Look forward to meeting you all.

Hey guys - cant remember if ive already posted - but i did send Lani an email :)
Teina and I cant do the 2nd and 4th thursday of the month as we do young parents at YFS....
I live out in Logan... so a trip to the city is like 3 buses for me lol - but I'm willing to come wherever as long as its not to far up towards the nth side - its hard enough getting my baby bag and stroller on public transport as it is (my car is totally screwed.... i get my new one in just under two months! :smiliedance: )
So yeh - any day really suits me!
oh and teina is 3 mnths
Lani can you send me the map please? I think i know how to get there, but better safe than sorry! melpitt@gmail.com
Thanks!
Looking forward to meeting you all!
Melissa.
hey guys,
we'll be there with bells on. :yelclap:
just wondering if we should let each other know what food we are bringing so we don't end up with 10 plates of fairy bread?
I am going to have to pike on this meet as I have a Dr appt but will definately make it to the next one!;)

Regarding food, Julie... I think I will probably bring some hommous and crackers/carrot sticks.
Boring aren't I?! Unfortunately for my family, I'm a bit of a nutrition nazi!!:D
...now I just have to figure out what toys to bring!! ...and how to label them!! I'm thinking masking tape and nikko pen!:p
lani_ezara
18-04-2006, 12:20
Okay, I think we’re set,
A few final notes…
Carrots and hommus are fine Selina, we’ve got to have something that that the Mums can eat too! (6 pieces of fairy bread just doesn’t have the same appeal as a good lunch option as it used to;) ). I think everyone should just bring what is easiest for them to bring – whatever you have in the fridge or the cupboard, or whatever you can quickly pick up on the way there. I’m not sure what I’m bringing yet but it will probably be something from the most convenient bakery I happen to pass by on the way there!
As for labelling toys, I don’t think it matters too much, we will all know what’s ours anyway.
Would have been good to see you there Amanda, but it seems as though you have a bit of a pressing issue to tend to!:) (Congratulations!) Check the thread for the next time.
Melissa – Map is in the mail!
After locating the Lamington street side playground, if anyone is still unsure which group of people we are (because we’ve never actually seen each other), my daughter and I will be waiting in front of the playground, she will be wearing pink and holding a very bright orange hard to miss care bear. That might make it a bit easier!
Could anyone, if possible and if in possession of blankets or picnic rugs, bring them to throw down on the grass and put the food on?
I’m going to bring enough juice for everyone (and water to dilute with, plus cups), so don’t worry about drinks; I’ve got it covered!
If anyone wants to bring anyone, partners, friends, etc, please do.
I think that’s everything! Here’s one last short list, just for tradition sake.;)
Lani - Izabella 24 months
Selina - Bodhi 9.5 months
May - Ayisha 8 months
Stacey - Chanel 8 months
Melissa - Julianna 15.5 months and Anjelita 3 months
Krissy - Summer 12 months
Julie - Aribella 10 months
Lou - Lurkey 4 months
Jemma - Mason 17 months
Kathryne - Jake 10.5 months
Maree – Lucas – 7 months
Katie – Jake 11 months
Looking forward to meeting you all! See you tomorrow!
Lani
I'm with you Lani, definately picking something up on the way! Far too disorganised here. lol
If anyone sees me, the lady walking around with a black tandem pram, looking lost, please call out. lol I get lost easily!
See you all tomorrow!
oh no! i totally missed this. sorry ladies... my mind was totally occupied yesterday after hearing from the company that i got the job.
so how was it? hows everybody? how many came?

We enjoyed ourselves aswell!!
Was great to get out of the house and talk to some real live people!!
Bodhi slept in the car on the way home and then was wide awake and ready to play the minute we got in the door... unfortunately no rest for mumma!
I would love to meet up again too... this time maybe we should all just bring 'half a plate' for morning tea!
