View Full Version : Do they eventually feed without screaming? Or even sleep?

Hey...I dont even know for sure if my little one has silent reflux, but he screams through most feeds and doesnt do day sleeps - will appear fast asleep then wake screaming after 5 mins or so mostly. The occasional 1 or 2 hour sleep is a shock and sheer bliss.
Just wondering with others - do you eventually get through a feed without your little one screaming in pain as if you're torturing or poisonong him? It's hard not to take it personally when I'm breastfeeding him.
Also, did they at some point start to sleep during the day? Because DH and I are trying to tell ourselves that eventually he will start to have regular, somewhat predictable sleeps. Are we deluding ourselves?
Thanks,
Mel
hugs darl im probly not the best person to answer this is my little refluxer is to and still drinks and eats nothing at all, and is stil a shocking sleeper
howerver most do
check out the info at
WWW.infantrefluxdisease.com there are steps to reduce reflx etc
sory for short reply typing one handed with a reflxer on my knee lol
I am at the 4 month mark and my little man started a littl ebit of a day ritual where he would have one 2 hr a day - then a bad batch of meds sent us back to square one and 4 weeks later, I still dont get more than three 30 min sleeps a day, and no longer than a 2 hr straight sleep at night (at least he knows night from day though I guess).
BUT I hold on to the dream that one day...if you dont, you go mad - and most days you feel like you are a complete failure and it is that hope that is the only thing to get you through.
I was once told to
Hold onto the dream and dont let it die, or else life is a bronken winged bird that can never fly.
Strange now, 20 years later, that is the quote that gets me through most days.

Thanks for the replies. We've started on losec now and stopped the gaviscon which was very badly constipating him causing more pain and putting more pressure on his little tummy.
So far I've had two 40min sleeps from him today! It's a miracle. Funny that with my DS1 I would have been frustrated if he slept 40mins thinking it was not enough sleep, whereas with this bub I'm over the moon about it and feeling so refreshed having the break. Now to just get him sleeping at night so I can get some sleep.
Reading some of your stories really helps to put it into perspective though - dont know how you do it, what we are going through is nothing compared to so many families and I'm finding it very hard to cope, you are amazing!
Amy - thanks for that link I got some great info. It's amazing reading everything its like they are describing my bub. Also got some tips on feeding which have helped him actully gain some weight. I dont let him fully wake up to feed, so if he's napping in my arms and begins to stir I start feeding him right then and him being calm and relaxed seems to help.
DS1 is waking now so I'll finish there - thanks again,
Mel

Thanks for that - looks interesting, just wondering how you make up their bed? Do you put the sheet over the wedge or do they sleep right on it?
