Hi Everyone,

I am a just about 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby. For the past couple of days, my skin has been sensitive and itchy. It has gotten to the point where i cant sleep at night.

I purchased dove sensitive skin soap and i have been using johnsons baby lotion to provide some releif.

Can anyone provide any advice?

Is there anything my gp can give me?

try using aqueous cream (made by the same people who make sorbolene and you get it from the chemist instead of any soap) but check with your GP

i had the same problem, ive always had sensitive skin and i use palmolive milk and honey bath its a liquid soap! i find it great for my skin. it may have something to do with shampoo or conditioner your using aswel.

also i found that the folate tabs i was on for pregnancy iritated my skin, something that was in it. wasnt quite sure what it was but when i changed what i was taking the itching seemed to stop! i am on the blackmores pregnancy gold, i itched when i took elevit or fefol.

hope this helps!
and i hope it settles for you soon!
remember if it continues, see your doc, at least inform him/her anyways.

I get really itchy skin in pregnancy, all over my shoulders and stomach, but I have been told in the past to watch it, because there is a condition in pregnancy called obstetric cholestasis, it is a liver problem and causes severe itching, keep an eye on it.

I used the aqueous cream last night after the shower and it did provide alot of releif.

Only downside is the cream is very greasy and a bit of a pain to move around when i was covered in it. I cant wait to get home and put more on.

I have had blood tests in the past couple of years and I have had issues with liver function due to a fatty liver.

Can this condition start early in pregnancy?

The itching is very bad at the moment.

It would be very unusual for cholestasis of pregnancy to start this early, [it's usually 30 weeks+],but there have been cases when women had a history of liver disfunction. Go get some LFTs done, becuase there is some medication, [ursodeoxycholic acid] that you could have that would reduce the risk to your baby if it is cholestasis.
I've been going crazy ithching but found that my local chemist had some stuff called naturasorb, I think, that's chemical free and has done the trick. It's olive oil based. For a while I was just using olive oil and smelt like a kebab.

Hi,
I ended up having to get the obst. to provide a steriod cream. mine was so bad I began to scratch so far to make it bleed. I understand what you are going through.

I know exactly what you are going through. I used to claw myself to pieces! It would start in one spot, then as i itched it i became itchy elsewhere, aswell as that first spot, and so on! Soon i'd be on the floor scratching myself silly, especially at night in bed.

I went the chemist/docs....tried every cream out there, some helped a little.
It carried on right throughout my pregnancies.:hair:

Hi,

The aqueous cream works but only for about 2 hours and then it comes back.
Im going to the gp in the morning to get some bloods done and she if there is anything she recomends. Im assuming it must have something to do with the pregnancy because i have never experienced this before.

I went to the GP and she said it is definetley a systemic problem and nothing to do with the skin such as a rash.
More than likley a liver issue, possibly a fatty liver. Has taken blood tests and will be going back tomorrow for the results.
She has recommended I take Polaramine which is a antihistamine and use dermaveen cream to sooth the skin.
