View Full Version : i'm scared for my unborn baby
i'm 8 weeks pregnant and had my 1st routine blood test done and there not good bub is ok for now but my bloods show my rubella immunity isn't working and my body has made an antibody (antikell) against the baby which could cause severe problems for bub either during pregnancy or at birth by attacking the babies red blood cells causing severe anemia and other problems off that i'm really worried anyone else had same/similar and went on to be ok.
I'm sorry I dont' have any advice. Just wanted to say I hope everything turns out ok. My routine bloods showed my rubella immunity is "borderline" so will need another booster after bubs is born (already had one less than 2 years ago!) but luckily the baby is fine. Take care of yourself and find out all you can about the risks and anything you might be able to do to help keep bub safe. :hugs:

The antibodies against the baby sounds scary, and I can't offer you any reassurance on that front, I don't know enough about it. All I can offer is :hugs:
What I can tell you is that after having Rubella as a child (when my mother was pg with my brother), being immunised against it at age 12, age 22, age 23 (after #1 was born), age 30 before TTC, age 34 (after #2 was born), and STILL not having high enough immunity, at least the ob I had for #3 didn't insist on sticking me with the vax again after #3 was born. Some people do not develop immunity from the vaccinations, and not just for Rubella, for other things too.
is it easy for someone to catch the rubella virus? i've been urgently been referred to the mater hospital but the wait to find out if bub is ok is horrible i've done some research and sounds abit scary. thanks ladies for the support.

Giving you lots of strength

I know a ladie who had a similar situation, she had never had the rubella vaccine cos she's from Indonesia, she had a C-section at 38wks & everyhting was fine. I hope ur ok. talk to ur Dr & even google it, research it & im sure u will feel better when u no ur options more :)

I was told the other day my rubella is low but wasn't told about any risk for bub.
I'll apparently be given a booster after bub is born.
Rubella is primarily a childhood illness, so don't go near child care centres etc if you can.
Don't know about the immunity probs- hope they can work it out for you. Will pray for you, that all goes well.

Hi Spooky,
A friend of mine had an Anti-Kell and because of it she had to have extra blood tests to ensure that the strength was not increasing.
Her pregnancy went well and she delivered a boy who was a little jaundiced and had to have phototherapy. All's well now though!
The advice she was given was to deliver in a larger hospital as they have more experiance with these things.
I hope all goes well for you!
I had a ruebella jab as I knew my antibodies were low, and intended to ttc within a year or so. What I did not know was that I concieved that very day, and there was a lot of freaking out about fetal development etc, but the outcome was that I now have a normal very intelligent 4 year old. I don't know if this is the same really.
:hugs:Really scary to go through, I wish I knew more about anti-k.
