Hello, I hope I'm putting this in the right section.....I was wondering, what car do you all have for 4+ children? I need to get a bigger car, as we are expecting bubba no.4 in December, and don't have $40,000+ to buy a lovely people-mover, but I still want a comfortable and, most importantly, safe car for my family. I'd like to get something about 10 years old. Thank you!

what about just getting a station wagon and putting a dikkie seat in the back
We have a 99 Pajero - it goes well, is safe and has 7 seats.....suits us well:) It only cost us $12K.

OMG!!! We have the same car.........only kidding:laughing:
I do have a 4wd though...but it cost us $1000 less than yours...:p
I hate the idea of those seats in the back of station wagons.. I just think that the kiddies heads are way too close to the roof and also they are surrounded by way too much window too..
We picked up a 2000 Chrylser Grand Voyager for $14,000, but I crashed it so we are getting another one hopefully at the end of this week :o They are fantastic but can be costly on repairs.. I have heard that the Tarago's are a good car though, also the mitsubishi starwagons.. There are actually so many different types of people movers out there and if you are looking at about 10 years old they are reasonably priced.. Just need to find one that has not been thrashed from a whole lot of kiddies
We're picking up a Kia Carnival on Friday and it's costing us $17999. I friend of mine has one and it's awesome!!

We still only have a 5 seater but looking at getting an older odyssey for around 15k otherwise will most likely get a discovery, around the 12k mark too its just a case of saving a little harder first
My freind has a tarago and hates it so that put me off them
We have a Toyota Landcruiser-seats 8 and a lot of room- though is a bit more than what your looking at spending.Around 30k but there are some great ones out there now.
There are so many out there nowadays- have a look at drive . com. au (minus the spaces LOL)- you can get an idea of what to look for there!
Hope that helps.

Sorry to jump in here but I've got a 93 Pajero and I can't seem to fit 3 kids across the back seat. I've got one in Meridian AHR and 1 on a small booster. Do you manage to get them all on the back? Just wondering if it's possible.
TIA

I've got a mitsubishi starwagon (and a commodore - my baby)... the starwagon is a 99 model, so only cost about $9k... seats seven, plus a jump seat (which we only use when desperate), doesn't have a big boot, but back seats fold up if it's just us... has plenty of leg room, and under seat "stash" space... four bolt holes for car seats, so a choice of places for the seats...dual zone aircon (hubby won't drive a car without aircon!)... we're a family of five atm, with plans to expand in the not to distant future, and we burst out of the commodore as soon as we get visitors, so it works nicely for us (took a bit of getting used to for me, is a column shift instead of floor shift, making the front seats walk through)

We have a 04 model Pajero and there's NO WAY we could fit 3 seats. DD is still in a booster (base only) and if we have a 3rd person in the back she can't sit on it as it's not comfortable for the other person or her. However that's where we'd need to use the rear (6 & 7) seat
We could fit three seats across our Pajero:yes: There is quite a bit of room....we only have 2 children in seats ATM but have had friends kids in the car before and have done it quite easily:)

I'm looking into 7 seaters at the moment (going to give up my SS Commodore :crying: ).
Looking at Used Toyota Prado's, Toyota Klugers, and Ford Territorys. At the moment I am leaning towards the Kluger.
I agree with the drive.com website - gives you are really good idea of availability and cost.

id love to upgrade my car badly , didnt think we would have another this soon , atm have a mazda 3 an some how have to fit 3 kids in back , 1 been in a baby seat an one been in a full boster , DONT leave room for a 3rd child in middle unless she was petie , my girl is a big girl an wont fit in there ,
i like the sound of lookin at a kia grand voyger , but hmm prices are pretty high for what your looking at , LOL dp is just thinking stuff it an goin to try an wait as long an just get a van ! lol
mercedes benz have a really nice 8 seater van type thing ;)
 Well after finding out I'm expecting #4 I was wondering how you fit 4 kids in a 4WD if the anchor points are on the roof there's no room to use the back seats. We can't afford another car so has anyone got any ideas.

We have our twin stroller in the back and when we go shopping it's just with the twins so there is heaps of room for the shopping
we have a landcrusier also, but as the kids are getting older, the very back row of seats is getting squishy for them, as the seats arent really that high off the ground.. as for room, I found our tarago more roomier and fit more in the boot space, easier to park also (such a nice tight turning circle).. not too much difference on fuel consumption too, even the the tarago was a 4cylnder and the cruiser is a 6cylinder.

we've only got 2 currently so it's not a big issue but this is something I've wondered about too.
We've got a volvo wagon with the extra seats in the back (not being used at this time), but I kind of wonder how safe the dikkie seats are - do they kind of negate the safety of having a volvo (the whole reason we got it)?
And I was thinking can you get anything with a front bench seat? Like the old valiants or similar. That would be great, then you've still got room for 6 people without having to get a people mover or 4wd.
