sorry if this is in the wrong place, but thought I would put this in here

could someone tell me how long the material is of a HAB? also can you tell me how small it folds up to? i'm after something that will fit nicely in my nappy bag

also how easy are HAB to use? what kind of material are they made of? is it breathable? do you get hot wearing them?

TIA

Hi

I never put it in a nappy bag etc, I would put it on before leaving the house. It's the kind of thing you can't really put on when you get somewhere - I learnt that the hard way, trying to put it on in a shopping centre carpark is not fun, the ends trailed in a puddle and I felt all self-conscious trying to do it :o

I think it's about 12 feet. I fold mine up and it looks like about the size of a folded up sheet. They are tricky at first - but that's why they come with an instructional DVD. You need to give it a real positive go, and keep practising and don't give up after the first time you try to tie it. It is 100% cotton I think, it's pretty breathable, but it is another layer plus bubby is in there, so in the summertime it can get a bit hot - but you'd just wear a light singlet underneath it and put bub in a singlet and nappy only, and it'd be fine. My boy was born in May and by the next summer I was using it a lot less, so I can't say what it was like using it full-time in summer.

I think the Carrying Away (http://www.carryingaway.com.au)lady is in Brisbane, and she does real-life demonstrations and helps you work out which sling type is best for you. I'm in SA so haven't had the honour of her knowledge, but I've heard many good reports about her. Otherwise try Wear Your Baby (http://www.wearyourbaby.com)for heaps of info and photo instructionals, and video tips.

I will go measure mine for you ina sec! Pretty bl00dy long though! For the size of it, it folds up pretty small(and into its own bag which is part of it), but woudl still take up a fair whack of precious nappy bag space! To be honest, when I first got my HAB I was thoroughly frustratd adn ready to throw it in........it takes practice to be able to put it on with ease, but once you ge tit it is easy peasy. It is made from a cotton that has a littel stretch to it, definately breathable. I never got hot using it, unless i happened to be overdressed myself. I often found myself and bub a bit sweaty when I took him out, but neither of us were hot if that makes sense.
Very worthwhile investment IMO..........I love it!!

Mine is 4m..
It is cotton knit and breathable..
I dont get hot even wearing it during summer.. I would just put bubs in a layer less of clothing on her torso or only put her in a singlet..

Giz the front of the HAB has like a little bag on it alot like those towel-in-a-bag things. I just put it into the bag part and I chuck it in the bottom of the pram or I tie the bag onto the strap of my nappy bag. It's not big and bulky.

What an idiot, I didn't know that pouch thing was actually a bag  I just thought it was a pocket or something for when you were wearing it :o

Oneblessing I was trying to remember how big to pocket was, I just can't remember how big lol, so do you recon its easy to just put on when ever you just need it? I like my sling I had now, only prob is she's getting too big for it, I liked how I could just put DD in the sling and DS int he pram if need be, or if I needed to just go to a shop I didn't have to take the pram, just get out of the car and put the sling on, so i'm wanting somthing to do the same

Yeah it's easy now I have the hang of how to do it. If I am just going to be running into a shop then I put the HAB on at home then just put him in when we get to the place.
