I am a little confused as to what this baby will sleep in :baby:?

I have been given a cradle, never used one but seems to nice to use as I won't be having anymore.

Previously used a Snuggle Tetra Bed inside the cot with my boys, these are wonderful.

Never had the cot in my room but alwyas felt a little sad that baby was asleep next door (had to do this as DH does shift work).

Also, if you co-sleep there is a little bed that goes between you both with a foot light so no-one rolls onto baby etc, anyone used one? Big W sell them for about $60?

What sleeping arrangements have you all thought of?

As I said in one of my other posts this morning, i am a bit of a hard a$$ with my kids :o
My bub will be in it's own cot from night one, just swaddled. My girls share a room, and I have not shared my room or bed for any of my kids - I like my sleep when I can get it, and listening to a snuffly baby is not conducive to my sleepign patterns. Plus DH is often up at 5am to go to work.

I had my first in a bassinette next to our bed for 3 months then moved her to the cot in her room. The Bassinette was second hand from my sister and it worked out rather well as I think I would have been sad having Sierra in her own room (which is down the end of the hallway!) at first!.
I think Im going to do the same for the second... I dont think I could handle the co-sleeping thing, just because I would be too paranoid about rolling!
I just have to get a second cot now as Sierra isn't going to be quite old enough for her own bed I dont think.

Cass, my DH often gets up at 5am to go work, even though he is quite, I am still awake.

My boys don't share as yet, but I would like them to down the track, mabye I will just put bub in a cradle in the laundry...just kidding , no-one is sleeping in there yet ;).

Hi Loz,

I'm lucky - we haven't had to buy anything. I have a fourth generation bassinet handed down to me from my Mum, from her Mum, from her Mum :) and yes, it has been deemed child safe by today's standards :yelclap:

I slept in it, my brother did, my Mother, my Uncle, my Grandmother and her brothers.... :ecomcity: I've been carting it around for years, so be glad to finally get some use out of it!!!

After he/she grows out of the bassinet, then it will be into a cot. As for in our room/own room, our room is miles away from the other bedrooms at the other end of the house, so to begin with, the bassinet will probably be in our room for ease of access and midnight feeds  or I'll kill myself stumbling through the dark down the other end of the house to the bedrooms when bubba yells for food!

Cheers
Kayls

I am borrowing my SIL's bassinett, which we will put in our room, where bubs will sleep for the first 6 - 12 weeks depending on how things go.

Then bubs will be in his/her cot in the nursery down the hall.

Well, that's the plan anyway!

My bub will be in a bassinet I'll borrow from my sister. I am currently intending on having it in it's own room from day dot, however there's only the bathroom b/w our bedroom and the baby's room so we'll be close by. I figure that way, atleast dh will get some sleep even if I don't. Besides, if it's in the same room I'm sure that I'll stay awake half the night trying to hear it breathe!

I'm planning on a cradle for the first few months or atleast until bub sleeps through the night & then moving them into the nursery into the cot.

I have to do this as I am a terrible sleeper who can't wake up very well when i'm in a deep sleet, having baby next to me will wake me up (I know had to do this with DD)

Everyone has such different ideas, so many sleeping arrangements, it is good to read that we are all doing what works/feels best :flowerz:.

I always thought I would never wake to the baby, but you do amazingly, no matter how tired you are.

If anything, I am a terrible sleeper now, wake up to any noise and jump out of bed as soon as one of them makes a noise, it is like someone presses a button and ejects me from the bed LOL plus I don't want one to wake the other, god no!

we'll probably have the bassinet set up in our room for the first 1-2 months or so. Then move to the cot in it's own room.

we had DD in a snuggle bed and i still didnt wake to her! i was a very heavy sleeper! getting better now, mainly as loz said i dont want one to wake the other!! i plan to use the bassinette i used for DS beside my bed, but i may put it on the floor a i found last time that he seemed really high up. also becasue he was so big he had to go into the cot at five weeks becasue he was to big for the bassinette, we will se how we go this time *hoping for a baby UNDER 10lb:)*

Mixy - Snuggle bed's are great if u want bub to sleep in his/her cot, they create a more cosy environment and there is not transfer from cradle to cot which can cause probs for some.

Jeez, we all hope you have a baby under 10lb this time Mixy :fingerscrossed:.

Hi all!!

My bubs will be sleeping in a cradle to start with, mum brought it for us all to use so it's my turn.. unfortunately it's a light timber colour and all the other furniture we ordered is white! ohwell it doesn't get used for long! I would say for the first few weeks bub will be in our room in the cradle, just cos i will be so paranoid and checking it everytime i roll over.. oh dear.. bit nervous!

Really not sure.
We may be kicked out of this place . :hair: So wont buy a cot. May get a bassinette. May co - sleep. Just depends on the baby.
I have a spare bed in my daughter's room to breastfeed in. My husband and I are big ppl and co sleeping only works with one parent one kid with us. Our three kids slept together but our BIG girl kicked Av out of bed a couple times so we stopped that. So now the boys share a bed.

We will be using the cradle bought for DS#1, in our room ;) Then it will be off to the cot in the room next to us :) I'm also thinking about hiring a hammock, they are so good as DS#1 stayed asleep in that for ages

My bub will be sleeping in a Bassinet in our room til its too big for it.....
Did this with my first 2 boys - they were snuggly wrapped and slept in the bassinet with us til about 3 months.... then moved into the cot in their own room...I LOVED doing this, having my baby right near me .... found it hard letting go when they went into their own room :(
Also..... the Bassinet I will be using was mine when I was a baby, so its rather sentimental and its kinda special to be having all my bubs sleep in it!

The plan is to have bub in a cot in its own room. Dh will still be having to get up for work and hopefully that will help him get more sleep than having him/her (just about used 'it'!) in our room.

Being our first, we'll have to see how it goes, though.

Bassinetts and cradle's seem popular, I especially love the one's that are handed down through generations, that is very special.

I would love to never get out of the bed, b/f and change the nappies between my legs then scoop bub off into it's own bed in my room for some months. Unless DH is a sound sleeper this can be quite disturbing for him? I will probably have to feed in the loungeroom (nice comfy recliners).

1st time I came home I had everything in the loungeroom, portacot and changetable, it was all so new to me I just wanted everything on hand .

I dont want to co-sleep with another bub 3 in a double bed is overly squashy I couldnt handle 4 and I've never used a bassinet before but got one free with a pram I bought for DD last year so its brand spankin new (DD was too big for it when I bought the pram) I cant wait to set it up with pretty sheets and stuff. Then he/she will go into a cot which I also have that DD never ever slept in so I would like to make some use of the $600 I spent on the thing

Thats just about how it was for me...... hehe..... I had the bassinet right next to me - so for night feeds, could pretty much just sit up in bed, pull bub out and had a stash of nappies and wipes & even a few spare jumpsuits in my bedside..... felt lazy doing that, but it was SOO so handy! Made night feeds that little bit easier

My DP wants us all in the bed together, the bed thing from Big W sounds good...but I am worried we won't all fit!.... and am leaning toward the bassinet idea...

We have one of those snuggle nest things that go on our bed, but tbh we found with Ava we usually just used a breastfeeding cushion to rest in between us and the rest of the time she slept in her bassinet which was right next to me. She would sleep in her cot or swing in her room for naps during the day and until I went to sleep.

This time I don't want him in bed with us because I'm scared Ava will squash him, so I'm thinking of getting one of those armsreach co-sleepers. They're expensive but I love the idea of just rolling over and picking him up.. And we have almost nothing else to buy so I'll probably just do it. Ava is still using her cot so he will use the bassinet in his room for naps and until I go to sleep.

We will do the same as we did for DD. Mum will bring the family bassinet up here for us. It's 1 of only 2 ever made and was made especially for my mum by a work friend when she worked at Steelcraft. Apparently mum loved the design of the prototype but it was to be altered prior to release 43 yrs ago. So another one was made JUST for mum (as a gift) and it's rather gorgeous as well as special. When bub is born we will have him sleep in the bassinet in our room for the first few months. I tend to have small babies so he'll fit in the bassinet till we finally decide to either buy another cot or a bed for DD and bub can use her cot.

:hugs:
