well my son has made a hole in his portacot.. those travel ones and its slowly getting bigger coz he plays with it.. and sometimes gets stuck in it.. its down the bottom but no doubt will slowly get alot bigger.. he is nearly 18months but often ends up upside down and sidewards and also refuses to go to bed most nights. as they do.. how would he go in a single bed or even those car bed thingies? im just scared he will walk around the room and not go to bed. how and when did u put ur todler in the big bed.. what did u do to make the transistion actually work.. i dont know how many months we have left in the cot :( he got his leg stuck in it last night then went to sleep after i moved it.. sometimes he doesnt see the hole sometimes he does and makes it worse  and there is no use me buying a new one when i want him out of it in about 10months anyway when we move. thank you

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately!

Mitch is 22 months, and still in his cot. It's one that changes into a toddler bed (you take the sides off) but I'm hesitating about doing anything yet, because I dread sleep times where he can get out of bed!

Maybe you could have the big boy bed AND the cot set up in his room, then try him in the bed to see what he does. If he keeps 'escaping' then put him in the cot?

My kids were in a big bed with a bedside and a box to climb in and out at 15 months ... they adjusted to it really quickly. The only thing I had to do was make sure that their day sleep time was rescheduled so that they were really ready for a sleep rather than just a little tired - it took away the temptation to play :yelclap: ie ... my DD used to sleep at 11am and again at 2pm - I changed it to one 3 ½ hour sleep at 1pm.
