How old does my eldest have to be to sleep in the top bed? And will it pose a problem for the adventurous younger siblings? The bed rooms in my place are tiny and dont fit two singles.
i have just put dd1 (8) and dd2 (19mth) in bunkbeds. Of course dd1 on the top and i will say i also have a ds (3) anyway i had to keep the bedroom door shut for a week unless they were asleep or they did climb up but after then the novelty wore off. I bought my bed from superamart and the best thing i like is the top one has security rails all the way around except for the ladder bit. One of my other friends just put ds1 and ds2 in the same bunks and she liked it for the same reason. So if you are worried about safety look out for this type of bunk as when i mean it is enclosed all around it is bothsides and top and bottom.

It depends on what style you are thinking of.
I'm getting the low-line bunks from bunkers for my twins fro their 5th birthday. They are only 135cm high. But they wont get a choice who goes on top because one moves around alot in her sleep and sometimes gets night terrors. So no way will she be on top. (They have rails around though)
But would never put them in a normal bunk at that age. Then there is also the loft style which are even higher.
My sil has had her 4yo dd on a top bunk with good railing for over a year now and her 2yo dd on the bottom.
As long as they are not really restless sleepers and are confident with getting in and out by themselves, they should be ok.
I haven't needed to used bunks, but I am seriously looking at getting loft beds for my two ... they need somewhere to study that is away from the normal house activity (haha, study ... they are in kinder and year 2!)

Thanks for your replies ladies. I have bunk beds that are currently separated to two singles. They are just the standard height when put together and have a wooden rail all the way around the top except the ladder part. My dd is only 4, and the younger one 3. dd4 is not a restless sleeper and I am confident that she would not fall out. But I assumed 4 was too young and was wondering how much longer I had to keep the beds apart and in separate rooms. dd3 is still in the cot and desperately wants her own big bed. But unless the bunk beds are put together she will have to either stay in her cot or go into her younger brothers room. Neither of which I am keen to do. I also worry about dd3 who is quite "adventurous" aka a little terror who is always up to no good!
hi,
would a trundle bed be any good or is the space that tight?
My friends 2 children are 4 and 2 and the 4 yo sleeps up top, the 2 year old on the bottom. All ok. The top bunk also has a rail but funnily enough it is the 2 year old on the bottom that has fallen out!
