I was under the impression there was an off-peak time for electricity at home, but I rang my provider and they said there wasn't.

I thought it was cheaper to use the dryer and washing machine etc at night, but maybe I've been wrong all this time.

Can anyone confirm whether there is or isn't an off peak time? (Last winters power bills were totally ridiculous, so I'm trying to cut back this year)

From what I understand, there's no off-peak time for normal electricity. There is however an off-peak time on a different circuit for your hot water (sorry, I cant remember the terms), but that's why your hot water heats late at night rather than through the day.

Does that make any sense ?

We used to have something called a smart meter installed at our old house and it was cheaper to use electricity after 9pm.

It was an initial cost of $300 and something to get it installed.

Could that be what you're thinking of?
