In regards to a big issue - when to change from rearward to forward???

My DD is almost 9kgs and she is 2 wks off being 6 months (I wont change to forward just yet) but its on my mind about this question?

When to change to forward? Is the new recommendation 12kgs? We have a fisher price brand seat and reward goes up to 9kgs? So when she gets to 9kg, should I change her around? ATM she has really good neck/head control!

always go with what the seat says!!

most seats go rearward until 12kg, which my son was almost 20months before he reached that weight, so thats when we turned him...

unfortunatly it has nothing to do with good head/neck control

but as above you should always go with the recommendations on the seat! (although at 6months and a 9kg seat i would be getting a new seat, 6months is way to young to go forward facing IMO :))

my son is almost 7 months and is still rearward facing. he hasn't been weighed recently but at a guess i would say about 8kgs. his car seat is also only up to 9kgs. i think it is only safe and sound that go up to 12kgs rearward facing. i would personally go with what the car seat recommends, but the closer to 12 months the better. also i was talking to a child therapist ( someone in a bit of know but not knowing everything, if that makes sense) and she told me to leave him rearward until 12kgs, i protested that the seat only recomends 9kgs and she repeated leave him till 12kgs. so i am a bit lost myself what i will do. i do trust this lady, but the car seat states.... i am going to wait until he actually is 9kgs and then think about it. sorry i am no help.

:iagree:
if the seat says 9kg it means that it was tested and passed at 9kg, who knows what will happen at 12kg.

Its hard to know what is the right thing to do. I will wait till she is well into 9kgs then change her around cause my car seat ony goes to 9kg, dont want to risk it...

Would you go out and spend $200 on another carseat that does go to 12kgs for only 6 months?

i am considering it, but i need to buy a new seat anyway as i have a capsule. i had planned to go straight to a maxi rider from capsule, but thanks to bubhub i am a bit wary of this now. i am thinking about getting a safe n sound convertible that i can rear face again in then next year we will be a two car family so get the maxi rider then, maybe . as i said before i don't know what i will do, so i put off thinking about it till i have to

yes, i went & got another one that faces rear til 12 kilos, even if we get 6 months out of it thats 6 months of safety  I got a babylove royalty. we went from capsule 2 babylove then at 12 kilos will turn forward 2 18 kilos then prob a maxirider or explorer. my babylove was $295, keep an eye out some cheaper seats dont rear face til 12 kilos, I think mainly babylove & safensound do.

oh if bubs is in a capsual then go and buy a convertable carseat, one that rearfaces till 12kgs, the safe and sound models do, and so do the hipod carseats and I think a few babylove carseats do as well

don't put bubs in a maxirider at 6mths, for many reasons, bub is still too young to go forward facing, even if they have good neck control, their muscles in their neck arn't stong enough to withstand sudden jerking which is what happens when the car stops suddenly, can cause lots of problems, the other reason for not putting a young bub in a maxirider is cause of the padding, the carseat is way to big for a little bub,

if you go with a safe and sound carseat, bubs will be in it till at least 2 years, if not beyond, safe and sound carseats have higher backs on them than other brands, making them last longer for the child, then you can look at getting a maxirider after that
