Sorry, but just need a bit of advice on this one.
Miss Liv has been on solids for about 7 wks now and her poo's are solid now too. She goes about every 4 days or so, but when she goes she really strains to the point of red face and crying. She get this poor helpless look on her face that gets me going sometimes too. The result is usually a poo the size of maybe a 20c peice to something twice that size, usually only one or two bits:eek: . I know this is gross, but I don't know if this is normal or not. Do all babies cry when they poo? She has lots of fruit, especially pears and nothing that I know of to cause constipation.

This happened with CJ too. :( I guess their little bodies are still adjusting to the new solid experience :p . Make sure she gets lots of fluids. Juice & water.
I hope it settles down for her soon! :o Good luck......
Try getting some brown sugar. Put 1 teaspoon of brown sugar into 150 mls of hot boiled water. Stir until the sugar dissolves and then allow to cool thoroughly. Give her this to drink once per day for a few days. It should help to soften her poo enough so she doesn't have to strain.
This can be given every time she gets constipated. It is a natural remedy that was used by our grand parents and great grandparents and it works.
I know it is a sweet drink, but it's not like you are giving it to her all the time. Only when needed.

MJ is 10.5 months old & has been constipated since we started solids 5months ago. The only way to stop hers was to give her a prune a day & only high fibre foods ie brown breads, wholemeal flour etc. Also really push them to drink water. My dr still thinks MJ might have a lazy bowel :(
Hope your bub sorts itself out quicker than mine did.

I would definetly keep up huge amounts of water. It probably is from the solid foods and her belly trying to adjust but straining is never good. Babies get hemmoroids from straining too hard.
I always used the brown sugar with my son and it works every time. Try different amounts and see what works. I put about a quarter of a teaspoon in about 300ml of water. But what works for 1 might not work for another so if it doesn't up the amount of sugar.

sounds like the poor darl is a tad constipated, i remember DS going through the same thing. As the other ladies have said plenty of water should help as well as try sxome prune juice. If bubs is formula fed i have been told not to let them go more than 3 days without a decent poo. Maybe a suppository might be needed, to help clear the blockage. Good Luck

Has your dr looked into whether bub does have any problems...or is he/she just kinda wondering but not investigating? The reason I ask is that the term 'lazy bowel' was often used...back when our parents/grandparents etc were young...to explain away what appeared to be severe constipation. Symptoms would often be helped/eased by not eating certain foods, eg dairy. These days drs now know that sometimes when someone has what appears to be a 'lazy bowel' that it is actually a 'curable' disease.
I'm kinda not explaining myself very well, am I? My younger bro had the disease I am talking about, and it wasn't diagnosed til he was 3yrs old. It requires major surgery to correct, but once done there is no need for any more operations...sorry, not trying to scare you, it's highly unlikely that your bub has this, it's one of those things that isn't that common but still around enuf that I have met 3 mums whose bubs had it. PM me if you want more info.
Anyway...back to liviamorris's question...I agree with everything the others have said. Another thing you could try is to cut out one food at a time for a couple of days and see if that helps. Maybe her body is just not ready for a particular food yet...could be anything tho.
Good luck, hope things 'get moving' soon :D

Everyone has given you great advice & it is true the swap to solids does play around with them a bit as does changing formula if thats what bubs is on.
Just try & keep her fruit up otherwise prune juice or the brown sugar in warm water so do anything to get her going & clear the blockage. Then start with making sure she gets lots of water & fruit everyday & maybe even look into whether certain foods make it worse by cutting all her foods back to certain things then adding things slowly but surely. For us we found certain foods caused diahorrhea (sp?) & certain things caused constipation.
Also remember a nice warm bath will help with blockages also & you may have to help remove some if its too hard :(
Good luck hope she feels better soon :hugs:
