Hi all, I am 25 weeks pregnant. Is gestational diabetes like regular diabetes? I am a bit worried about this since type 2 diabetes runs in my family. I have been trying my best to steer clear of junk food but have also given in quite a few times to cookies, etc during my pregnancy. Is that going to contribute to me getting this form of diabetes? How serious is it? Please help me with your helpful advice. Thanks a lot.

Hi there
GD isnt quite the same as regular Diabetes. It isnt forever and life returns to normal after bubs is born, although it increases your risk of developing type 2 later on in life.
If type 2 is in your family already I would make sure you have the GD test and keep yourself and bubs monitored throughout the remainder of your pregnancy.
:hugs: Hope you manage to avoid it
ETA: I moved your post and started a new thread for you.. hopefully you will get more responses this way

Hi
GD is a little different, like Two Blue said and it does increase the chances of you getting type 2 later on.
I had it and coincidently, my DH has Type 1, so we were both sitting there doing our blood tests and insulin injections! We'd try and beat each other with who had the best sugar levels :p
Not everyone needs the insulin though and I had no complications but it can be quite serious.
Good luck and I hope you don't get it :hugs:
