ELora has just had a skin prick test as she has come up with some new and exciting problems ie. allergies! Yay!!! ha ha ha
Anyway, I know already that she is very allergic to rockmellon (I know, how on earth???) and pineapple as she gets massive hives and itchy eyes and nose. Today she had the test and it came up with positives on milk, soy, peanuts, egg white, dust mites, some grasses. So, does this mean she is allergic to these things and should not have them at all? I know the dr will talk us through it all, but the lady also told me that to get a proper diagnoses she should to see an allergist and the best one is far away and has an 18 month waiting list!!!!
Elora drinks heaps of milk and eats milk products without any noticable reactions, how could this happen? Although when she was a baby she had nasty reflux and dermattitus. SHe's also eaten a small amount of peanut butter with no probs either. SHe does get itchy to grass, but who doesnt and she has always outright hated eggs.
SO can anyone give me some ideas on what to possabley expect?

CAn someone please reply to me? I dont know what to do about this or even how likely it is that the results may be false positives. An allergy to milk and soy creates a rather large problem for me really, so any help would be appreciated.

Yes I can help, both my children have allergies and have both been tested through RPA allergy clinic

Your bub definately has the works though so your in for it im afraid

let me start by addressing some of yoru comments

Anyway, I know already that she is very allergic to rockmellon (I know, how on earth???) and pineapple as she gets massive hives and itchy eyes and nose.

poor thing that sounds like a nasty reaction

Today she had the test and it came up with positives on milk, soy, peanuts, egg white, dust mites, some grasses. So, does this mean she is allergic to these things and should not have them at all?

this would be a big FAT yes!

The more she is exposed to these things the more allergic she will be come and each reaction will get worse *which you seriously wont to avoid*
so those things and even things should be on the BAN list at your house and wherever possible when out and about, let all your family and friends know so that they can help provide a safe place for your lil one

I know the dr will talk us through it all, but the lady also told me that to get a proper diagnoses she should to see an allergist and the best one is far away and has an 18 month waiting list!!!!

I know we waited about 5mths for our son to get tested and 7mths for our DD but this was a free service at a highly reputable clinic....im sure there are private run clinics that cost money without the wait list...speak to your doctor about getting her in asap

Elora drinks heaps of milk and eats milk products without any noticable reactions, how could this happen?

Sometimes we dont put two and two together and we just dont notice that they are reacting, you day she had reflux? thats an indicator that her body cant break down the milk my son had this too and it was horrid

You say she also has dermititis? this is also an indicator that her body is reacting

. SHe's also eaten a small amount of peanut butter with no probs either.

Sometimes you need a build up in the body to get a reaction, the more she is exposed to nuts the more likely she will have reactions

SHe does get itchy to grass, but who doesnt and she has always outright hated eggs.

no not everyone gets itchy to grass and sometimes children will appear to hate something when in actual fact their body is telling them this is not good so they will often use the gagging reflex and refuse to eat that food etc, my dd did this

I seriously doubt you would get so many false positives I think you need to come to terms with the fact your bub has allergies and you will need to do some research and definately see a specialist and a dietician to help you get your head around everything

I am no expert so this is all JMO but from my experience with my two kids is doing a total ban on everything she has tested positive to and work from there as children can out grow some of these allergies

my son outgrew an egg allergy and hasnt had any reactions for over 14mths coz we are very very careful on what he eats and his environment

PM me if you want more help:hugs:

THanks heaps for your reply. Surprisingly, its not my baby who now has the allergies (although I am willing to lay money on it that she actually does, Ive had far more probs with her than with Elora) but my 4.5yr old! Thats why this is all astounding.
Elora has literally no visable symptoms for these allergies apart from the rockmellon and pineapple, and I suppose to citris fruits (she gets acidic painful urine).
Its so weird that these came about, these allergies were basicly found by accident in my opinion as we were never meant to test for those things. Thats why I was wondering about false positives.
SO where to from here? If no milk does that mean literally no milk with nothing that has milk in it? No soy too, then what in replacement? She hates rice milk, maybe goats? Pricey!!!! Peanut should be easier to avoid than milk, and egg white shouldnt be too tricky. I guess Ill have to read labels now hey? Ugh.
Yah, Im sure I will be PMing you a fair bit in the near future

Hi there Suzie,

Ok so you say once you see an allergist and your doctor it will be explained?

Where did you get these tests done? Who did them?

I am on off to see Dr Peter Smith allergist/immunologist tomorrow for my daughter who also has multiple, undiagnosed uncomfirmed allergies? Intolerances? We have no idea as we have not been tested yet, just elimination.

no allergist, went to gp who gave us a referral to Sullivan Nicholades. We went there, they did the test, sent the results to dr and he explained it to us. He said he didnt think we needed any more done either.
Aparently most of her allergies and mild to moderate. Mild being the milk, egg white, and the moderate being the soy, grasses, and peanuts.
He said to limit the amount of mild ones, try to stay away from the moderate ones, and as there are no strong ones, not to worry too much.
This sound right to you all? Sounds fairly relaxed to me. So basicly no major life changes, just keeping the amounts down.
MIght swap cows milk for goats milk a bit though.

Please care, I dont relly know what to do about the results.
Do I change the diet? Do I leave it as is? SHould I demand more tests? Am I crazy?

all the results were over 3mm, most were 4 and 5mm. Nothing severe enough to warrant full on worry though. Her worst were for peanuts, soy, dust mites and the grasses, she had 3 and 4 for milk, egg white and wheat.Nope, never noticed a visable reaction to any of those apart form the dustmites and the grasses (hey fever, and feeling itchy), the rest is possable that she has been reacting all the time without me knowing in some subtle way? Shes had milk ever since she was born in some form. She doesnt have any soy or egg or peanut anyway so I cant speak on that.
I just dont knwo how far to take it. Should I just leave it as the allergies arent too bad or should it be tested by an allergist? I want to get DD2 tested but GP said shes too young for it to be reliable
