Has anyone noticed their cycles getting slightly shorter, by a day or two?
Two years ago, I used to have 32-33 day cycles and now they're 29-30 days.
I'm 42 & I'd like one more baby but I don't know what my chances are of conceiving naturally now that my cycles have shortened.
Has anyone experienced this?

Hello Ethereal.

I don't know whether a shift as minor as a few days would interfere with your O cycle. Maybe just move it a few days back.

I have just finished my first period since falling pg last year (naturally and unplanned, but very wanted) so will be keen to see if I fall back into my usual 28day cycle.

So tired I am raving.. sorry.

Wish you luck in finding out. Let us know as it is an interesting question.

Hugs,
Amy:)

Hi Etherial

I experienced shorter cycles when I stopped breastfeeding my first baby at 41. This continued for about 8 months. Just recently they have returned to my usual cycle of 28 days. Not sure if it has anything to do with age. Perhaps it just takes a while for the body's usual rhythm to return.

I don't think that will make too much of a difference.

My cycles have always been anywhere between 31 and 42 days, adn I still always ovulate on day 15.

Thanks for the replies ladies,

I was doing a bit of reading about what to expect in the years preceding menopause and one of the things to expect is shortened cycles. And that the cycles gradually start to get shorter until they are no more.
Thankyou for the reassurance, it helps to have the support of others. It really does make a difference.

Hi,

I wanted to add that I too have shorter cycles now....used to be 28-30 days ,now they're around 24 days sometimes a lot heavier too and I am absolutely stuffed leading up to them as well. I'm now 44, I was ovulating not so sure now tho. Altough we'd love another I must say having af since the age of 11 I will be slightly glad when they're over:hair: and i will be eternally grateful for the children we have!

Hi girls
I don't think it has anything to do with cycle times etc and sometimes reading about menopause makes you believe it. It could be the case for some but not for all. I had by baby at 44 and now I even have to use contraception as they tell me I can still get pregnant at my age. If you want a baby that bad just keep trying. Keep relaxed and enjoy what you have because if a beautiful baby wants to come into the world he or she will. Don't give up just yet!:ecomcity:

I 've been reading a bit more and it seems that if you want to get the best out of your fertility in your 40's it's a good idea to stay fit through daily moderate excercise as that way your body gets lots of oxygen and circulation to the reproductive areas.

Also good nutrition is vital at this age. Plenty of fresh veges and wholegrains & fruit especially organic is a good way of getting optimal results in conception & pregnancy.

Apparently there are lots of little ways to turn back the biological clock a bit.

I am with you on the diet and exercise bit Ethereal. I have always been big but not from eating junk foods or not exercising. I was brought up on health foods and find myself today still craving soy beans and lentils and vegies galore. I avoid processed foods at all costs. I really think what I was fed in my younger years is the reason I have had such good health over the years.
Eating well is worth a try for sure.
Also, after a m/c in 2006 I went to a naturopath and asked for something to heal my uterus. She made up a tonic with something called False Unicorn. At the time I believed it was for healing but recently I looked it up online and it said it may improve fertility too..it carried a disclaimer saying it hasn't been scientifically proven though.
I took the tonic for the last three months of 2006 and fell pg in March of 2007. The naturopath had also been taking the same tonic and fell pg just before I did..lol..although she was a lot younger than I.
Just thought I would mention it but not suggesting it was the reason I fell pg.
Good luck.
Amy:)
