We are now posted to Williamtown :smiliedance:.

Yes, that's right, they canned our posting to Sydney yesterday and now we are off to sunny Newcastle :yelclap:.

So, if any of you lovely ladies (and gents) are posted up there, can you please fill me in with any helpful info such as shopping, what the suburb of Fletcher is like, play cafe locations, if you have get togethers I could join in on etc that would be fantastic. Any information you would have liked prior to arrival basically.

I don't have any info for that area unfortunately but it's not hard to find folk in that area.

Newcastle City is a great place but Fletcher is maybe 15 min drive from anything decent..
Nothing there at all.. Shopping centres are located at Kotara, Westfield, Charlestown Square, Charlestown, Stockland Glendale, Glendale and Stockland Jesmond. Jesmond.

The closest to Fletcher would be Jesmond or Glendale. They are not bad but nothing too flash..

I know this as i lived in Newcastle pretty much my whole life and met my partner while he was posted at Williamtown..

Isn't that exciting - we love Newcastle.

My hubby is on his second posting here and we live in our own home in Lambton (very central).

Don't know much about Fletcher, its a newish area but I have never been out there myself.

Don't know what to tell you......but here goes......
the beaches are all fabulous
major shopping centres are in Charlestown & Kotara
Jesmond has a small shopping centre but not real flash
there is a play centre in Kotara & Cooks Hill
do you need any info on schools/preschools????
I don't know of any defence get togethers but I'm sure the RAAF base would have lots of things like that on...............

Thanks for that info. We are very excited :yes:. Have never been to Newcastle before so it should be a big adventure!!!

Not worrying about schooling yet as we need to confirm our MQ location before looking at schools.

Posting authority has been delayed a week as it didn't get on the system in time :no:. I hope they hurry up as we have our pre-pack on the 12th May!!

Isn't it exciting waiting to see where you're going to live - try for a place in Adamstown (its a new area - all defence - but fantastic - we have friends that live there and all the mums get together a lot).

We're on homefind at the moment as need a bigger house (we're entitled to a 4 bedroom even though we have our own house which is 3 bedroom - our boys are more than 4 years apart). There's only one house at the moment for us at Fletcher in our classification (we're a 2). Due to the reclassification a lot of the houses in inner Newcastle are 3's. We're going to wait to see what comes up as my kids are in school and daycare in Lambton. We're also looking to buy something bigger but 4 bedroom house are hard to come by in our area (lots of 3 bedrooms as it is an old area).

I think that there are bubhub meets - go to the hunter section and check it out.

We finally have access to homefind however we have had a house in Fletcher put aside for us for the last 3 weeks :confused:.

Apparently in the RB2 category there are no other houses :hissy:. A friend lives 2 doors down from this one in Fletcher so she has been filling me in on the surroundings. The stupid thing is that there are no dimensions on homefind so we have no idea how big each of the rooms are. I'll be on the phone on Monday to sort that out.

We arrive on 14th May so I guess we'll be able to check if anything else has become available then :fingerscrossed:.

I take it you do not go to any meets?

It's great you've got a house.

We got access to homefind in August last year when my hubby was posted and only RB2s seemed to be mainly around Fletcher, Maryland, Thornton. A few others popped up every now and again but pretty rare.

I know this may seem strange, but have you also asked to look at RB1s as at the moment there are about 5 available. Maybe some others will come up in the areas you need.

The floor plans don't look too different than the RB2s however the yards are a little smaller. Also you get to pay less rent!

What are the houses like your being offered on homefind? Do any have air con, fans on security screens on the windows?

Nearly all have split system aircon in living areas and/or main bedroom. Some have a combination of fans and aircon.

I forgot to look to see if they had flyscreens or security screens, must look at that!

Hi, congrats on your posting! We moved to Williamtown, from TIndal and it has been a blessing!! Although Newcastle isnt the prettiest city i really enjoy it. We live in Medowie (raafdowie) and its nice a quite (exc the jets).
