hi Ladies
I have come across some not very fair standards in regards to ultrasounds.

i would like to hear from pregnant women who go to SOUTH COAST ULTRASOUND for women.
i would like to know if you are a public or privet patient and if you receive Pictures from you're Dr and from the ultrasound place .

i have discovered there are double standards how some public patients are getting extra pictures from there dr and some aren't.

The ultrasound place claim they no longer send pictures to public patient Dr, when i know for a fact that it is a lie

so i need evidence
i am going to send a letter away and prove that there are double standards with how public patients are being treated by this place

please tell me you're story below, do not include personal information
if i am allowed to use you're name and dr name in a letter please pm me the information

i appreciate all the help i can receive in this manner

Elisha

so anyone?

i am not complaining about myself not getting any extra images
i am upset that my dr doesn't get to review the ultrasound him self, he only gets the report.
and i know one other person who dr does get the images to review as well as the report.
so if they say protocol is one thing and they are doing another, this can have adverse affects on our baby's lives. because with our own gp not reviewing the ultrasounds and only reading a report, things get get amiss. but if this place is meant to be sending out images to all dr and they are not doing so, they are legally responsible. so in a effort to find out the truth and the real policies
i would like to know if you are currently going to this place and if you're dr gets the images to review and may i know the dr name for my letter of complaint.

Hi Luna Wolf Spirit, my first ultrasound is booked with them for April 23rd, so I'll let you know what happens.
I am a public patient, referred via Dr. Chester at Dapto Medical Centre, and I have a history of complications in pregnancy (Suspected Cervical incompetence).

i was a private patient and every ultra sound my obstetrician would always get the photos and go through them with me, he would then give them to me to keep. he would get like 50 photos of every single body part you could imagine and he liked to see certain things such as my placenta and cervix. because you are right he does actually need to 'see' whats going on. but im sure if there was a problem the photos would be forwarded. i had my baby in august so i guess i cant help with the collecting of evidence. as im not pregnant at the moment.
sorry! probably no point to my reply! are you paying the same fee at the ultra sound place as a private patient would? maybe just ask your dr what the usual procedures with photos?

Thank you very much for you're response. you were treated i believe the right way, my friend who is public, her dr is giving her he same treatment as you received.
granted you are not pregnant atm i will still like to use you as an example if that is ok.
yes i pay the same fees as everyone else, my friend pays the same fees as well. so i really want to get to the bottom of this.

naebie- please keep me updated, i do not want you to receive and potentially negligent treatment with you're history

i feel like a women on a mission, lol

keep you're experience coming

I went thru SC U/S as a private patient. They gave me a copy of the scan, and then sent many scans to my Obs, more the technical, healt and stats ones. Not the pretty here's you baby, isn't it cute ones. Once he had looked at them he gave them to me, many of which meant nothing to me but I got them anyway.

hey luna....

come to think of it.... no one has really gone through my us with me.... it would be so reasuring... we pay them enough.... they could at least review them and give us the results on the day

has anyone been told off for not having a blood test with their NT scan.... Im glad I knew my rights... but they still should have reported the fold without the bloods as per what their brochure states....

I wish the sonographers where a bit more enthustiac.... I feel like I get introuble when I ask wuestions.... I had to ask her if she new the sex of the baby....

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

in relation to my 12 week bloods the place lost the results and tried to say i didn't have them so they wanted me to have them again so i went to the place who done them the first time and they had the results as they had forward them to the place but also keep the results on record as well so lucky for me other wise i would have to pay for the next lot of bloods that cost between $200 and -$400
all because they lost the results, but then the repeats of bloods wouldn't have been done in the right time frame

thanks for all the information you guys have provided me

Sure I went thru Dr Greening in Figtree. Are you looking to go private? He gets booked out very quickly as he only takes on 12 pregnancies a month now. I've heard from a friend that he's moving away from preg completely in the near future and focusing on his IVF and gyno parts of the business, which is a bummer cause I really liked him.

Now that I know all is okay, I can tell you I am pregnant. Had my US at SC US on Monday and they gave me three pages of photos to give to my Obs (I see him soon, so it was easier for me to pass them on), plus two photos for me.

I had my 12 week scan on the 23rd, and my GP only got the report, but because I am doing shared care I don't know if the hospital got a copy of the actual scans. I am in the High Risk clinic, and saw Dr. Davis at my first hospital appointment, and because he also works for SC U/S, he was the Dr who wrote the report, so I know he at least had a chance to see the scans. I had to have the standard NT scan plus Cervical Length checked via TVU (internal) and Dr. Davis was the Dr. who ordered this to be done, not my GP.

Hey
I didn't go through SC U/S, I went through Shoalhaven Medical Imaging. But I thought I'd share my story anyway just to give you a bit more info to help?. I went through as a public patient, and at my 12 week ultrasound I received a DVD With the pictures on it, where i can select them if wanted and print them out myself. I also got a report. I also asked for some good photos to be printed out while I was there.
At my 18 week ultrasound, I received the DVD again, PLUS 2 large sheets of pics, but no report? I also took a video tape and they put it in the machine towards the end of the scan to record the baby moving around in there, which is lovely :) I'm not sure if my doctor still has this?
Anyway, There is definitely a huge difference in the quality of service between the 2 different places. Hope this helped. :)

Well, I had my appointment at the hospital, and they didn't even receive a copy of my report, let alone any scans/ pictures. And though I know that Dr Davis wrote my report, I am not always guaranteed to see him when I go to the hospital, so there is no consistency- all the other docs have to go off is written notes and reports!
I wish I could afford to go private, but it is not really an option for me, as I am still a uni student, and spend the free time I have looking after my sick father- It is not fair that I am seen as a second class citizen because I can only afford public health care- I mean, why do we even have public health care if we are not going to be looked after as well!

Hi there,

i had my u/s done through south coast x-rays in wollongong.

And i guess its a good question, as to what happens to rest of the images, when you only get a few pics for yourself. Maybe just directly asking the ultrasoundist themselves, to find out the answer? I mean why do they bother printing so much off, if it ends up in the bin?

One doctor i was seeing, only had the reports, although you never know, she may have had the pics in file or something. And i know you get a DVD oportunity to take home with you. Which is what i have.

Later i changed doctors, not related to this topic, and did the share care thing with my original doctor i used to see with my previous twp pregnancies. Their midwife who i had seen in my previous pregnancy is excellent, she got all the back up u/s reports for me to give to the hospital antinatal clinic. But it never crossed my minds about the pics.

Just ask, when you get the ultrasound done and when you see the doctor.

i ask every one and i get a different answer each time. my midwife has even asked and they get a different answer each time, so does my dr. its like who ever you talk to at the desk or in the room while its being done give me a different answer. there is no consistency, and when i asked to see the policy .........cause a major scene and guess what they didn't have it available for me to read

im due for my 34 week scan soon so i will see what happens then

Hi there,

i can understand that it is frustrating that everytime you get an ultrasound done, and even going to the antinatal clinic, its always a different person that is present!, which makes it hard to get answers, when your given the no one and same answer. A bit like too many cooks in the kitchen. In this case, too many ultrasoundists, and too many clinic workers!.

I forgot to mention, i know the other ultrasound place, in dapto, (also south coast x-rays,) did the pics on the actual xray sheet, and no printoffs!?. Probably because they didnt have the updated equipment. But because of this, i was given all the pics, on the one sheet. Maybe you could try them, if you dont want pics in printed form?

thats who i went to for all my ultrasound with DS bar the 34 weeks one. they only give xray sized pictures cause they dont have the equipment for other pics. but whats wrong with that?

Hi Grace,

Nothing wronge with the x-ray sheet option. I was pointing this out for Luna who started this thread in regards to not receiving all the printed pics that an ultrasoundist does, nor from the doctors. (Even though the pics will display organ/body parts of the baby). Yet it is her preference to have all the pics, or at least be provided the information as to what happens to those pics etc.

The main issue that we have found is that the referring doctors are not receiving any copies of the images taken, and are receiving only the written report. I know that I feel it would be beneficial to have the pics looked at by my Dr, rather than simply checked over by the U/S techs and Dr. Davis who writes the reports for South Coast Ultrasound.
In terms of receiving pics myself, I agree that it is not really necessary for ME to have those pics of body parts- I am content with the DVD and the few pictures of bubs that are just 'cute' shots, BUT it would be good if my Dr was given a copy to give me a second opinion.

that is how i feel

now i get told it is because i am a public patient that is the reason my dr doesn't get the pics to look at him self, then my friend who is public as well gets heap and heaps of images while she is there and from her dr some are the same some are different, so her dr gets to see heaps of images.
then i post on here what i am getting told and what is going on with other people and yeah it up sets me that my dr doesn't get any images, and he has tried to chase it up and he got told it is because i am a public patient, and as we can tell that is bull... so there is no consistency with how results and images are being handle and no policy that is being followed
