Trying to conceive

Hi my little one is 5 months & is still being fully breastfed, i've started to introduce some solids (she is a huge eater) but my cycle has not returned.

I don't want a huge gap between children & was wondering if it is possible to fall pregnant while breastfeeding if my cycle has not returned & how am i meant to know when i'm ovulating or is it just a guess?

Hi Katelyn,

Yes you can fall pregnant when bfing and before you have a period, but only if you've started to ovulate - so you've fallen pregnant before you would have had a period normally. (does that make sense?)

My AF returned after I dropped to 2 feeds in 24hrs, but everyone's different.

You could watch for the usual signs of ovulation - I get sharp pains and an increase in CM.

There's heaps of info on fertility & bfing out there - try the ABA website or forum, or ask your doc.
