RAAF Richmond Posting Information

We have just found out that we are posted to RAAF Richmond within the next couple of months. We have never been to Sydney and need lots of advice such as:

- Reasonable suburbs to live in and distances to the base
- Things to do with the kids
- Cost of living ie groceries, petrol etc
- Shopping - Very important topic, factory outlet locations, shopping centres near base
- Climate - ie is there any humidity during summer months
- What is the base like to work at

We have contacted DCO and they are sending out a welcome pack and have spoken to the REDLO regarding my sons schooling next year.

I have also purchased a Street Directory so I can look up where things are.

We have contacted DHA but unfortunately there are no houses which means we need to search for an RA property :no:.

Any assistance that can be provided is very much appreciated.

Was just going to say fine out if the schools are Zoned and if they are try and pick a school first. then try get a house in that zone. Good luck I hate going RA.

Im originally for Sydney and my BIL has just been posted back for his desk job...they are living in Grose Wold near Richmond which I wouldnt recommend it is a bit out in the sticks!!!

Penrith is really good if you can live there, they have the best shopping centre there and they are close to the freeway going into the city... You might want to be close to transport if you only have one car.....I dont know about specific schools or anything... you can also look up things on the net too to help....

Penrith is very cold in winter and very hot in the summer being away from the ocean it has more extreme temp...it is also at the base of the Blue Mountains too... Cost of living is much of a muchness everywhere now....
