Hi, just need some advice.

I will be moving my almost 4 month old son in his cot in the next week or so and I was just wondering how I should go about it. Do I put him in there now for some day sleeps so he gets used to it or do I just put him in there on the day? I really dont know what to do, and how to make the transition easier for him.....or me really:crying: !!!

Please help me out, Im a first time mummy and havent done this before!!! Thanx!!

We had so much trouble (especially with Jesse) moving from bassinette to the cot.
We had a bassinette with the tetra mattress so there was a definate difference from one to the other.
I started by putting each of the boys into their cots for their day sleeps and then gradually they were having every day sleep in their cots.
If your bubs sleeps on top of a lambskin/sheepskin you could make sure that moves into the cot with him.
Hope this helps....good luck, you'll be fine.

im yet to move indy (almost 4 months) to her cot. i love having her right next to me.. and when she wakes up for her 5am feed i usually let her stay in with me. so im not looking forward to the move!

I remember moving the other kids, and i started them going straight in the cot. It didnt worry them.

But to make it easier for you, you have a good idea by starting the day time naps in there.
Good luck

yeah i can relate to that.

i did read on here about co - sleeping.. someone suggested putting the cot next to your bed and taking the side off so they are level with you.

i think it was schmell? i think..
anyways i thought it was a good idea.
i dont really have that much room, plus as much as DF loves little indy , i think he wants our room back ;)

It could have been me  ... We considered doing that with DD2 but she had no trouble with the change. I did put her in her bassinet in her room for a couple of nights before the big switch, right beside the cot and I let her play in the cot through the day while I was tidying up or putting clothes away (DD1 & DD2 shared a room once she went in the cot)

It was short lived though because we moved and she ended up in her cot beside our bed but we didn't end up taking a side off as she started to sleep through the night about the same time

Don't worry about it as he will sense if you are nervous about him going into the cot and it will affect how he takes to it. He will be fine and as long as you keep the same routine for bedtime (day or night, whichever you decide to do first) then he will get the idea pretty quickly that the cot is where he sleeps from now on IYKWM.

Good Luck!!

When we moved our DD into her cot we did it gradually. Firstly we moved her bassinette into her bedroom and let her sleep the night in there. Once we were comfortable with that we then lifted out the bed part of the bassinette and placed that in her cot. She then slept in that. Once we were comfortable with that we took the bassinette away and she slept in the cot.
The transition for us was smooth and easy. Good luck!!

We moved Hamish into his cot on the W/E. I find it so sad to do this-was with the other two as well. But lucky (or maybe not!) for me we don't have another room for Hamish and he's too little to share with either of the other two yet so his cot is in our room. I put him in it on Sat for his nap and he didn't settle but that may not have been because of the cot. Anyway he is sleeping soundly in our bed right now but I really will have to work on the transition soon before he starts rolling.
I was always told if you make the move between 3-4 months they will adapt pretty quickly-it's just before they begin to awaken to the world again and so haven't yet worked out the whole issue of moving about.
Good luck.:)

We did the gradual thing too. We moved DD's bassinette into her room and then when she was fine with that, I popped her into her cot for a couple of day sleeps, and then she went in ther full time:)
