hi Lachlan's mum,
Hope everything is going okay for you. I have just read your indo post and am very sorry to hear about DH. Hope everything is looking up for you, we are here for support if you need it. About swimming lesson. We are about to start ours on Tuesday. I have heard that they shouldn't start until about 6 months because of the chemicals in the pool. I'm in NSW so can't help you about the pools in Brissy. Sorry.
Hi,
Six months is when to start. I have now idea about aspley, I go to Trish Hollonby's Swim School on Settlement Rd, The Gap. You could try your local public primary school, if they have a pool they usually have squads and lessons for all ages. Even if they don't do bubs, they may now where you can try.
Have fun.

Hi Harrysmum
thanks for your kind thoughts......DH is currently having radio treatment....half way through and is getting quite uncomfortable...but he doesn't complain too much (sadly it wouldn't matter if he did as I can only stretch soooo far :p ) We are staying positive.

Hi Lachlans Mum,
I have just enrolled Breanna (17mths) in swimming lessons today. I found the Albany Creek Leisure Centre to be the best. Not sure what age they start lessons, but the term starts first week of 10/04, goes for 11 week
@ $10 per lesson payable up front. But, if a lesson is missed catch up lessons are done (which Chermside Centre don't do)
Hope this helps.
Sue :)

Hi there
I used to take my daughter to Bunya Riverside. Etons swim school. This is a private home and they have max 5 per class it was $9 per lesson last year. I stopped going as my daughter was going backwards and we do not have a pool so not much point. I won't be taking the little one either. I think the money can best be spent elsewhere. My kids are never in a pool without us anyway.

Hi Everyone
I don't think there is any harm in waiting a bit, depending on how the individual child responds to lessons and being in water. My son didn't like putting his head in or under water. We tried lessons when he was 3 and it become a bit of a trauma so we pulled him out and just took him to the local pool to play in the water with us but never put him under. He enjoyed this but loathed structured lessons.
He is 5 now and starts school next year and they do swimming twice a week at school but apparently don't teach the kids to swim. We talked to our son that there was going to be swimming at school and would he like to try lessons again and he said he would. He has been doing lessons at the Enoggera swim centre for a couple of months and is doing fantastically. He really enjoys the lessons, no problems going under water and is making great strides. He is just ready now for the lessons but wasn't at 3.
I started my first daughter in swimming lessons when she was 18 months old and I wished that I had started her sooner. We don't go swimming that often, but when she was a little baby (up to 6 months) she didn't mind the water and being splashed at all. By the time we started lessons, she hated putting her face in. I didn't realise that she would develop a dislike of the water in that span of time. I have another baby now and will be starting her swimming lessons at about 9 months. We'll see how she goes.

Thanks for the feedback everyone...I think I'll start Lachlan at about 6 months. Even though we don't have a pool, I think it is an enjoyable activity that "Dad" can do with him seeing as I am at home with him 24/7 - like a bonding thing. :)
Hi Melanie,
We take our oldest 2 (4 and 2) to Shaplands Swim School at Everton Park (it's just near the big Rode Rd roundabout). They have been going all year and are doing really well. The lessons cost $11 each for 20 minutes and they only have a maximum of 3 per class. The small numbers are good as sometimes, with illnesses etc, the kids actually have private lessons.
I also have a 12 month old who I'll probably be starting next year.
I have noticed a sign up at the Hypermarket at Aspley that says there's a new swim school opening there? And they will be specialising in infants. A Sam Riley Swim School is opening at the Flockton Village shops at Everton Park shortly as well.
Apple.
