My 6yo has mild hearing loss due to repeated ear infections and scarring of his ear drums and ear canals. (b/w 10 and 15% in each ear on a good day, more on bad days)
We put a lot of effort when DS was very young to get his speach up as we were warned he may well go deaf.
Even though I notified the school when enrolling him and even though the school nurse confirmed the hearing loss, I still had to personally inform the teachers each year. DS is a very popular child at school and is his class representative on the SRC.
His speach is so good - just very loud, that many people don't realise that he is partially deaf. In fact - he is often asked by frustrated people when he doesn't answer them - "Are you deaf????", and I smile when he looks at them and says "Yes".
He also is an actor, and has been in a few commercials.
Even though his disability is slight - he manages very very well and am very (overly:o) proud of all he achieves.
The time his deafness has an impact is when he tried to play team sports and gets confused being yelled out so he avoids soccer and football - and now has golf lessons.:D
My DS is actually a very lucky little boy and I dont normally lable him disabled - just differentially abled as his ego and perserverence will carry him through life beautifully

repeated middle ear infections/burst ear drums that have left the drums and the ear canals scarred.
His eustachian get blocked due to mucous build up due to food intolerences...
We have recently been treated with steriodal drops which has started to clear up the scarring - so it looks like he may gain some of his hearing back, or at least shouldn't lose any more.

No we dont have HA's - the ENT doesn't think they are necessary ATM as he copes really well without them, and would become reliant on HA's if he had them and would be "noticed" at school. (Besides - all my family talk loudly:D:o)
We've had 3 sets of grommets and as of today we are looking at a 4th set.
His L ear is still discharging after two lots of AB's and AB drops
