I am being induced more for personal reasons than medical, yes i have read the pros & cons. I was just wondering what your experiences were with induction and why you were induced.
I just don't understand why people judge you diffrent for having an elective induction then they do if you have an elective c/s. I don't have opinions either way i think it is totally up to the individual.

I was induced at 37 weeks and had a wonderful birth.. :goodvibes:
I had an 8hr labour using only gas and had a vaginal birth.. Everything went perfect..
Although i was induced for medical reasons.. Bubs needed operations..

I would never advise or encourage someone to have an induction for the sake of it but its their decision to make not mine..

I absolutely loved going into labour naturally with my 2nd child..

But i had an extremely positive induction..

All the best for your birthing journey whatever you decide.. :hugs:

hi, i was induced with both my births (not by choice) but they were both good, with my first i was a week over due and i went in at night and i was already in labor so they only gave me one set of gels then everything started to happen very quickly i got really bad contractions but that was coz i had been in labour all day tho, and with my second child i was induced one week early so they gave me two sets of gels oneat night and then one in the morning and then i hade to have my waters broken but it all went ok for me i had nothing to complain about.

I agree with you about the having the right to choose and not geting judged for it, in the end its your body and your choice how you have your baby and how you live your life, goodluck with it all

I was induced with DS because he was 9 days past due date and just getting bigger :D

In my experience (compared with DD who was not induced) the induction was very intense - the pain came on much quicker.

I was induced about 9am and bub was born at 1pm.

Thankyou for your positive replys, i have been judged numerous times for my decision, I kinda wish i could wait around for things to happen naturally, however we have a situation which would be much easier with an elective induction. I have consulted with my ob. and he is very understanding and i will be 40 weeks so its not as if i'm asking him to deliver early.
Oh i wish life was easy.

 i think we all wish life was easy. i wouldnt worry to much about what people think its your decision and opionion that counts, when are you getting it done?

I had an elective induction with my DS2 for personal reasons not medical and it was wonderful .
I was 39.4 wks pregnant and was induced by drip. My labour was a total of 4 hours (no more intense contractions than with DS1 - where labour started spontaneously) and I did it all naturally and bubs never got stressed. DS2 was a healthy 8lb 13oz and 54cm long! I don't regret doing it at all.
Good luck to you :hugs:.

i got induced both for medical reasons , first born my waters broke an nuffin happen till i got the drip in , the was a semi traumatic birth , in the end she got knotted up an i had to be cut down there to get her out in a hurry , but was for the best so I try an remember that
with my second i had high BP most of the way through , an i Didn't an wouldn't let them let me go past 40 wks an would stress me to much to a point i was breaking out in hives an bp was so high !
it was very full on an the pain was pretty intense an quick , but other then givin to much pethidine an bubs coming out side ways it went ok :D

if i dont get high BP im not sure what ill do this time around , i would really like to get induced again just to make sure bubs dad can be there (he lives in bris bubs due on a sunday ;) )

Im goin to go in with a better mind set next time , so i think it will be great !! :D if i do get a elective might have to go in on the wk day so will be over or early :D

Kylza, don't worry about it hon, as long as you and baby are okay - that is all that matters.

I'm probably going to be induced, i'm spewing because I wanted to do an active natural child birth but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter ...

When do you think you will be induced?? Did you have a s/s today??

My induction wasn't as good as others have described, but you want different opinions so i'll tell you what happened.
I was induced at 38+3 weeks due to high BP, i was given one set of gels at 12am and they started working straight away with mild contractions.
I couldn't cope with the contractions because they were so full on! thats a huge downside because theres no relief.
I ended up having an epi and then needing an episiotomy to get my DD out- i think 30ish stitches later.

From everything i have read inductions usually lead to other forms of intervention, but not all births are the same.

Goodluck with your induction! :)

I just wanted to say i was induced with DD and i was 40 weeks (induced for medical reasons) and i had an awful birth it was a 33 hour labour with forcep delivery.

I think the problem was that DD just wasn't ready so I was trying to make my body and baby do something that it just isn't ready for. I think if you are already quite a few days overdue bubs and body is preparing for birth anyway this just helps it along.

I am hoping to go naturally with this bubs as i really don't want an induction again.

It is your choice and it is great knowing when to expect bubs your not like a time bomb. Goodluck

I had an induction 3 weeks ago with my daughters birth. I was 11 days overdue and with my Dr going away for 5 days he/we wanted things to progress as I was showing no signs of going into labour at all!

I was induced at 11.30 monday and by 5.30pm was having 2 min v painful contractions. at 9.30 pm my DH insisted the midwife come and give me some pain relief. On inspection they told me my cervix hadnt dilated at all and gave me some pethidine to try and let me get some sleep. I had a nice hot shower to try and relax and some gas. Relaxing worked as by 11.30 my waters broke and I was fully dilated. Layla was born at 3am, with about 2 hrs pushing.

It was a long hard 16 hr slog. but in the end a good birth, with only one shot of pethidine and gas. I had no stitches or tears either.

I have nothing to compare to though as this is my first baby.

I was induced at 37.5 weeks, due to pre eclampsia and polyhydramnious (and they thought GD, but that was a bad reading)

Had stretch and sweep, then the following day waters were broken, as I was already ripening (so probably would have gone naturally in the next week, they tell me)

Contractions started 30min after ARM, and labour was only 2hrs 8min from first contraction, to babe in arms. Was very intense, drug free, and forgotten once I was stitched up (only a second degree tear, not third like the first time) both my bubs have been slightly posterior, with an anterior lip (which means something, but I haven't a clue what ~lol~)

Was a completely different labour to number one - where I laid on my back for the entire time - cause I birthed on my knees in DH's arms (and he had the bruises for weeks to prove it!)

Yeh they are using a drip as last resort, OB. applys gel first and then breaks my waters if nothing happens later in the arvo & then if still nothing he will insert a drip.
Fingers crossed though as i speak i've had a few little niggles, maybe i won't need it!!:fingerscrossed:

I have talked a couple people out of getting induced if its just because they are post-dates. They both went on to have fantastic natural labours.

Its not because I judge them (wtf is up with that?) its because induction before the baby is ready to be born often ends badly for the mother and I don't want that to happen to anyone that I care about. I have heard more bad induction stories than good. Simple as that really, if you think that is judging someone then, well, can't do anything about that. I think that is an extremely odd way of looking at something though.

At 40 weeks with 'niggles' it should turn out allright anyway, bubs is probably just about to come and those inductions usually go pretty smoothly. I hope yours does. I am sure it will.

Not sure if you've had your induction already as its been a while since there's been a posting but I thought I'd add a good induction story for those still yet to go through one.

I was induced at 39.5 weeks due to medical reasons. Had been having a lot of prelabour pains anyway and was 2-3cms dilated so Ob decided to go ahead before due date so medical team could be in place and ready to go for bubs arrival. I cant remember now whether they put the drip in first (I'm pretty sure they did) and then broke my waters at 9.30am. Nothing happened for a good half hour then very mild pains started to come regularly. I was still able to watch TV in comfort - although Hi5 was on for some reason (the most traumatic part of this labour was watching Nathan prance around).

Established labour began an hour later and I resisted pain relief as long as I could. Was hooked up to a CTG machine for bubs heart monitoring and think I went for three contractions before being handed a gas mask. Did bloody nothing for pain relief except make me feel ill! I think it was about 45 mins later and I was wriggling around like a worm on a hot BBQ.... sorry bad mental image comes to mind, OK I wasnt comfortable any longer lets say. Midwife asked if I wanted to get on the fitball. "Hell no" was the reply "but I'll try anything then I want an epidural please". I was screaming something about needing to go to the toilet first so i didnt do a **** during the pushing phase thinking I had ages to go. So the midwife did a quick exam of cervix before I went and basically said that I wasnt going anywhere as bub was crowning. Two pushes and 10 mins later Caelan arrived and I was given a cudddle as he was well enough. No stitches required, placenta delivered 10 mins later and I was up walking around 15 mins after that. Labour was recorded as one hour. :dizzy: No post induction problems either thankfully so a good experience overall.

Honestly....? It was BAD. Induced after 14 days overdue, 2x cervix sweeps, 3x internal gels, artificial rupture of waters (now 24 hours into hospital stay) then the intravenous drip to induce-instant agony. The pain from the beginning of labour was as bad as at the end, gas and air-no help, pethidine-couldnt take the edge off but made me sleepy and spaced out, epidural-absolute heaven-completely pain free for the next 14 hours but could still feel tightening of contractions so knew when to push untill.....they didnt top up the epidural in time and had the pain of the whole last hour-and sticthes (with local anaesthetic). I wouldnt want to be induced again but if i was-id have an epidural on stand by the minute i got there.

hi!

i was induced at exactly 39 weeks cos bub needed to be in ICU and we needed to know all the doctors would be ready for her and know exactly when she would arrive!!

i had a great labour. the gels were inserted at 7pm and i started having slight contractions straight away. at 2 am my waters broke and i was having more contractions. was 2 cm dilated at 9 am the next day so decided to have the epidural. it worked amazingly!!!

we relaxed all day and watched movies and at 8 pm i was told i could start pushing. after about 5 pushes bub was born at 8:06pm!!

it was really a great day, i look back on my babies birth as an extremely relaxed and calm experience.

although i cant wait to go into labour naturally next time! just to know what its like!!

goodluck!! :goodvibes:
