Hi everyone
i've just started to feel some movement in my tummy over the last week, yesterday there was heaps, i thought there was a gymnasticts comp going on in there!:p
But today, nothing at all! Is this what will happen the whole time? sometimes lots and somethings nothing?
I wish i had xray eyes so i could look whats going on in there! :D

Wow Aimsy that's so exciting... i'm not sure i'm feeling anything at the moment... and i'm also not sure how often the movements should be but maybe bubs was feeling overly energetic yesterday and had a dance... :smiliedance:

:D

:smiliedance:

My movement is still sporadic too - I had about a week where it woke up on cue and danced at around 11am and 2pm each day and then it tapered off for a while and now it is back again. Guess it depends on where it is at any given time too - hiding in pelvis or playing higher up.

Yay for movement!

And yes, a little porthole into the stomach would be very handy!

Hi Aimsy,

That is so cool that you're feeling your baby move already, but don't worry that it's so sporadic. To be feeling it at this stage, many things had to be going your way.....internal organs such as the uterus have no nerves (thus you can't feel anything direct), and unless the baby is pressing hard against the uterus and pushing it against your abdominal wall and then your skin (which has a very rich nerve supply!) so that you can feel the pressure/movement, you won't feel anything.

Whilst the baby is still "small" (if you're 16 weeks like me it's about the size of an avocado :)) and floating about in the amniotic fluid, you may not feel a lot of the kicks and elbows, although you may feel the sensation of something moving down there. That's why it may seem to move a lot one day, and then not much the next - it's still moving, but it may have turned around and be facing your back (spine/internal organs) - not your skin. Once it's grown a bit bigger and is pushing against the tight confines of the uterus constantly at the front and sides, you will feel things much clearer and more often, because every little movement will push the uterus against your abdomen (and thus, the skin and nerves).

I've been rambling :ecomcity: but hopefully it makes a bit more sense now!!!! :)

Enjoy every little moment....I'm trying to, but it's hard when I'm so busy!

Cheers
Kayls

I also recall reading somewhere that they still sleep up to 20 hours a day and are often awake most at night so that might be another reason we can't feel them consistently.

I second that. Mine started moving last week and I can go all day and not feel anything but at night when I am lying still it tends to move a bit more. I have noticed my stomach keeps having these spasms of tightness too as if the baby is pressing out and making my belly firm for a few seconds at a time. It is so exciting when they start to move. I can't believe how fast the weeks are going. Makes me a bit sad because this one will be my last pregnancy as I have 2 kidlets already and we decided 3 will be our limit. So although I desperately want to meet this little person, I also want it to stay inside and kick me for as long as possible.

That's exactly what I wanted to know smiley :)

I can feel tiny wind bubbly/flickers quite low down on my pubic line which i'm relating to my dodgy bowel...lol... where should we be feeling the bubsicle movement... i am desperate to feel him or her...

I tend to notice the bubbles/popcorn type movements down near public bone area but i get the more flippy/ somersaulty feelings about half way between pelvis and belly button - that seems to be where the baby brushes against outside during game time whereas lower down the movements are less vigorous.

I get a rolling feeling. Also felt bub do a flip which was woah!
But no kicks or flutterings.

i get the little bubbles just above my pubic bone, and more scraping feelings higher up (maybe scraping is a bad word but it is the best way to explain it)

I've had some unusual feelings in the morning, I was hoping to feel something while on my back and felt a pulse-like feeling a couple of times a few centimetres below my belly button. I wonder if this is what people mean when they say butterfly wings?

Its been random but often today. Probably cos I haven't done too much today (Stressed).
Its like nothing else! I feel like bub is talking or connecting to me if that makes sense. Its a great feeling.
Tonight they have been on my left side.

I think I have felt occasional flutters while lying down before going to sleep. yay!

Every now and then though I feel a sudden quick poke from the inside, a bit below my belly button. If my hand is resting on my belly then it makes my finger move. Is this kicking or could it just be stretching or something? Something similar has happened over the side and I just thought it was stretching, but I guess there isn't much except my womb centre between the belly button and the pubic bone. I'm only 18.5 weeks with my 1st though, so I wasn't expecting to feel kicking for a few more weeks yet.

Still not sure what I am feeling... get the occasional three little pops in a row just above my pubic line but also feels like a wind bubble... wish i knew the difference LOL

LOL - I know what you mean Pink! I've never been so aware of all the different movements my belly makes!

Just wondering for those of you who have had kicking feelings, are they constant every day?

I had a week where it was everyday & now nothing since monday morning. I heard a heartbeat monday night with the OB so wasn't worried at first but now am wondering.

Wish I had paid more attention with DD

PinkAngel

Hun i was reading about exactly the same thing... apparently you can go a couple of days or more without feeling anything... it appears more regular from 20 weeks... you saw the HB on Monday so everything will be fine... :hugs:

I had some flutterings last night but still not sure if it was wind or bubs overdosing on the pink marshmallows I consumed after dinner :D

LucyB
09-04-2008, 09:33 AM
Mine were definitely sporadic to begin with (and i'd hardly call them regular now!). I remember having a week where I could feel them pretty much every day and then all of a sudden I realised I had gone a few days without feeling anything. I think sometimes bub disappears to play more towards the back and that's much harder to feel.

PinkAngel

Last night I had a weird movement... i was laying on the bed after a shower and twice i felt a tightening or hard spot between my belly button and pubic line... i put my hand on it and it disappeared after a few seconds and went relatively soft in comparison... then about 15 mins later it happened again... i was panicking it was pre-term labour lol... DH said it might have been bubs moving forward or changing position...what do you think?

Is that what Braxton Hicks are like?

I just googled and found this:

When you are experiencing contractions, either painful or painless, anytime during pregnancy, that occur more than four times an hour or are less than 15 minutes apart, you should report this activity to your physician or midwife, and you should be prepared to answer the following questions:

When did the discomfort start?
What is the type and frequency of the contractions?
What were you doing when the symptoms began?
Do you have any other signs or symptoms such as:
menstrual-like cramps that may come and go
abdominal cramps with or without diarrhea
backache that is dull and may radiate around toward the abdomen
vaginal discharge increase or a noticeable change in color
pelvic pressure that is constant or intermittentWhile waiting for your provider to return her call, you should:

Stop whatever activity you were doing when the contractions started
lie down with your feet elevated or on your left side
drink two or three glasses of water or juice since these contractions can sometimes be brought on by dehydration (http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/B/Braxton-Hicks-contractions/encyclopedia/D/Dehydration/).

Thanks for that Lucy... i only had the two cramp or hard belly feelings in a space of about 20 minutes then they went away... gosh after reading that I hope they don't come back and that it was just bubby shifting around abit...

I have heard that Braxton Hicks can occur around about now until the end of the pregnancy... let's hope it's nothing serious...

LucyB
09-04-2008, 10:46 AM
On the site i was looking at it said they can start as early as 6 weeks, but you just don't feel them until uterus gets bigger.

PinkAngel
09-04-2008, 10:56 AM
Wow really? that's early... i hope it's ok... now debating whether to call the midwife... if they come back today i will give her a call...

Thanks for the advice :hugs:

Ok a little less anxious now. Found this article....here is an excerpt and a link for those interested :D

Braxton-Hicks contractions are NOT a sign of prelabour or labour, but can be confused with prelabour at times. Unlike prelabour the contractions are generally sporadic or irregular and rarely less than 5-10 minutes apart. Braxton-Hicks contractions do not thin or open (dilate) your cervix.

I didn't get Braxton Hicks with the first bubs... I think it will freak me out a little bit if I get it this time .

Bubs did one major flip or kick last night!, I have felt him/her move before but this one felt like an acrobatic routine :p

I haven't really felt much movement at all so far (am 16 1/2 wks), so couldn't contribute much to the conversation....but yesterday I was getting so fed up with visiting the toilet to pee every 20 mins or so :hissy: and hardly anything would come out that I figured I had a baby sitting on my bladder....... then on my way home from work (1hr drive!) I was busting again, and got that real tight feeling in my abdomen ....followed by this little "poke" "poke" "poke" RIGHT ABOVE OF MY BLADDER!!! Little bugger WAS sitting on it!!! Up until now I've only felt little flutters and things, but this was a repeated movement....probably about 5 or 6 kicks/pokes and then some squirming.....whatsamatter little one...my bladder cramping your space?!?!?! I was so excited to finally feel something....but man, what a way to go about announcing your presence!!!

*still giggling*

Thanks Pink, I still completely frecked out & couldn't sleep anymore as I was poking & doing everything to make bub move. I was so anxious my GP sent me for a urgent u/s & yep there was bub heathly & moving but so very tight... no wonder there wasn't any movement felt it didn't have any room to move.

Does anyone have more active days than others with bubs moving about... yesterday I felt bubs could have been signed up for the Socceroos... all day and night... and today i have just been feeling the odd kick now and again....

From a feast to a famine with this child!

KatieLou

Yes Lisa, that's apparently normal. Maybe your baby is just exhausted after a big day yesterday :) or maybe it's just in a different place that you can't feel as much... The books say that it's all ok though.

Its normal for bubs to be quite and then energetic within the space of a day or two. My bubs has been really quiet, still feeling him/her but not that energetic, but yesterday was like bubs decided to have a field day!!, and then this morning I got woken up by a persistant kicking on the side I was lying on, so I moved and bubs was quiet again... little bugger is already telling me what to do!.

that is very normal, some times it makes us mumma worry but if you are still getting movements soemtime you have nothing to worry about :D with all of my pregnancies so far i have had a couple of days around this stage when bubs did not move at all, and i rush up to the doctors just to be told the HR is fine, then when im leaving the little blighter starts moving, this time i did not rush off i just waited and sure enough s/he started back up again

Yeah, and it doesn't stop once they are born lol, Im still paranoid about Sierra... is she warm enough, eaten enough, is that a rash?... part of motherhood . I havent rushed to the OBs yet, but I have thought about it a couple of times, and I thought this pregnancy i would be more relaxed... yeah right!:p.
