Hi there,

Any tips for making your little one feel better when they have cold /cough/sore throat???

Poor Ellie (21mths) is feeling miserable with a cough & sore throat.

I am putting panadol & dimetap in some milk with strawberry flavoring...is that okay?? She's not one for taking medicine - spews it up!

Besides medicines, I always give my DD1 a hot (well warm) water bottle to cuddle if she is sick. I have2 really cute half size ones with animal covers (the neck of the bottle tucks into the stuffed head of the animal cover) that make for very warm cuddly bundles. She loves them and is always happy to go to bed with them if she isn't feeling well (and on really cold nights in winter).

Ahhhhhhhh!!! Milk will only assist in forming more phlegm and congestion on her lungs. Actually all dairy products should be excluded at these times. I totally understand you wanting to help her through this and make her feel special but honestly the milk is a no-no. I'm not sure about giving both panadol and dimetapp is recommended-I would check first whether it is OK to combine medications. Do you have a vapouriser? A drop of eucalyptus in this will help to ease the congestion a bit and smells lovely too. If you don't have one they are available to hire from most pharmacies but to buy they are only about $35.00. I have found our's has paid for itself over and again.
I hope Ellie feels better soon-:hugs: to her.

Hi, just to let you know- i use to work in a Pharmacy and you can give your little one Dimetapp and Panadol. If you feel the need, my pharmacist said that you can also give 1/2 dose of Nurofen but only 2 hours or so after panadol has been taken. If you have vicks or euky bear rub, rub it onto the chest and the feet (helps keep the feet warmer). Yes Milk and all dairy products should be avoided due to them helping congest little one more- but it way too hard to take a much wanted bottle of milk off of them!
Take it easy and rest yourself- it drains you and you'll get run down too!

Ciao

The foot rub is also the quickest way to get the product into bub's system. The feet take up things like eucy rub really quickly. Be aware though that products such as Vicks contain petroleum biproducts and are exceptionally harsh on baby skin. If you have a vegetable based rub that would be much better. You can even add a drop of eucalyptus to some olive oil and rub that in. It's much kinder than Vicks.:)
