May be a little TMI for some, but lately I have been really really constipated, I am 9w and I don't ever remember it being this bad the first time around. I am drinking lots of water and eating lots of fruit and vege's and lots if fibre, but it is really giving me a huge pain in the belly...... Anyone got any tips to relieve constipation? Thanks
prunes love. either prunes or prune juice should help things along.
Just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat and have started having metamucil of an evening and eating a handful of prunes after dinner. Luckily I like prunes.
Hope that helps and start to feel better. I have been having the worst gas the last couple of days. Even my boys have commented on it:o
Same boat here too...
I have been told pear juice if you're like me and can't handle prunes! (:barf: )
Kritti, what does metamucil taste like? (May have issues trying to get it down)
And when all else fails, I left it for a few more days (I know TMI!) and then just took my time and pushed!
Prunes yes, but start slow. don't go and eat half a pack like I did:confused: It worked...too well!
Metamucil orange tastes like 'Tang'. (if you are old enough to remember Tang?) But drink it quick before it gels! Quite pleasantly orange.

I am a Registered Nurse and we give the older people in hospital pear juice. I decidced to give it ago as I was constipated and it works well. Or just eat a couple of pears a day! Tastes yummy and good for you!
Pear juice works well, but can give you a bigger pain in the belly.
A product called "Benefibre" which is clear & has no taste and can be mixed into anything. It is also safe to use while pregnant.
I eat All-bran every day & that seems to work for me.

I find that eating licorice really helps as well:thumbsup:
For me at least one of these things will work:
Drinking a hot cup of tea fairly quickly
A large glass of cold or warm water with a fair bit of lemon juice in it morn & night,
Mylanta (the liquid, about a tablespoon before bed, this works so well - check if safe while preggers though
Going off wheat worked for me but I guess see a doc about that.
This may be TMI but works well. Sit on the toilet with your feet resting on a box or small footstool or even the bathroom bin. Dont push too hard, just take a book and sit there for as long as it takes lol!
I havn't had much luck with metamucil, when you are constipated, too much fibre can make matters worse in some cases.
Laxatives are best avoid IMO, they give me shocking pains
Also try not too drink excessive amounts of water as this aparently can cause constipation (acording to my specialist, I cant remember details though)

I am 13 weeks and still get bouts of it. I was so bad last weekend (didnt go for 5 days)even after prunes, prune juice, licorice, loads of water etc
I just went to the chemist and they recommended coloxyl tablets for preggy women. They are tiny lil tabs that are salt based and they absorb all the water to make it soft etc. They were great for me. Was such a relief. I carry them with me now in case I get that horrid feeling again. Their is lots of things out there but make sure pregnant women can take them.
