Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has used this kit before? It comes with 5 ovulation tests and one pregnancy test. I have just got one and tested, and have gotten a faint line in the test section, but the box says to ignore the test line if faint! I am guessing this means I am close to ovulating though????

How successful (in your experience) are these types of kits?

Hi

If there is only a faint line in the test section of your ovulation test, it is hard to know if you are close to ovulating or not without knowing your usual cycle length, and having a few cycles to compare with.

Some poeple notice the line gradually gets darker each day until they see a positive, whereas other people will have a definate negative one day and the next day have a very dark positive.

Is your cycle fairly average length? If you have a longer cycle, it would work out much cheaper if you were to buy some ovulation test strips online. I get mine from lullabyconceptions.com and I can get about 30 of them for $30.

It is also recommended that as you are approaching ovulation, test twice daily with the ovulation tests because it is very easy to miss the surge if you only do it once a day. Some women will see the surge over 2 days or others (like myself) will have a negative AM, positive PM and then another negative the next AM. So had I not tested twice daily I would have missed the surge and not realised I was close to ovulating.

As to whether they are successful or not, I think that depends really. They don't work for everyone. The best way to tell if you are ovulating is to record your cervical mucus and to chart your temperature. I do this and then use the ovulation tests as a back up to confirm that I am about to ovulate, rather than rely soley on them to predict ovulation. Some months I never see even close to a positive even though I know I have ovulated because I get it checked with a blood test.

Good luck, I hope I haven't confused the situation too much for you :o

For my first 3 pregnancies I used an OPK kit like the one you have. When the test line is DARKER than the control line, that is a positive. If it is lighter then you may have JUST missed the LH surge, or may be approaching it.

Good luck!

....or may be approaching it.

Hopefully this is the case. Last cycle began 19.3.08, and is usually 30 day cycle. I had thought best time would be from Monday on?? Maybe 2 tests a day as MummytoMason suggested might be best (thanks for all the info BTW!).

I am charting temps as well, so hopefully we'll catch it!! A drop in temp also indicates doesn't it? I have been sitting at around 36.3-36.5 so far this cycle. What sort of drop should I look for?

Blairsmummy- you won't always get a dip at ovulation so don't rely on that. Your temps really just confirm that ovulation has occured, and doesn't really predict it if that makes sense?

Do you check your CM? If it is watery or like eggwhites (gross I know!) then you should be getting busy ;)

Keep doing your tests and hopefully you should see a much darker line soon! :fingerscrossed:
