hi
im wanting to invest in some wool covers/soakers. Are 8ply wool ok for nights or should i find some 12 ply ones? Can anyone recommend any? Need to fit over wild child night nappy.
thanks in advance

12 ply is pretty bulky when knitted up, I think you'd have issues getting the PJ pants over the top. In a grobag, though, that's not a problem.
8 ply lanolised is pretty good.
12 ply is way faster to knit, though, if that is a consideration.

I've used both - or to be much more specific (and honest! :o) my mum has used both when she's knitted shorties for me.
8 ply does the job fine. Like aardvark said, 12 ply does make it a bit thicker/bulkier - but that's only an issue if if you are trying to put things over it. Personally I never put anything over woolies so it's never been an issue for me.
Wearing a fully boosted WCDN nappy and her 12 ply shorties Sarah's butt looks HUGE!
ETA: Changing the ply of the wool will change the size of the finished garment when it's done - you might need to change needle sizes too or adjust the pattern.

It depends a bit on the brand of wool too - I've used some 8 ply that is as thick as 12 ply in another brand. Personally I'd go for the 12 ply :)

I'm a bit late here, but for nights I'd ALWAYS go for 12 ply- I even knit 16ply soakers for extra-heavy-wetters like my DD  I honestly don't see how a larger ply yarn results in that much more bulk over a nappy... and I love the guarantee of a dry bed- no leaks here for months! :goodvibes:

I've only ever had 8 ply ones and they always worked a treat although I don't have super duper wetters :)
