I have a question for some of the lovely mummies on here who were maybe a little overweight when you fell preggie, did your care provider make you feel bad, tell you off, tell you not to gain anymore, harp on at you about it at every appointment :detective:

I am TTC #2 but am overweight & am feeling very nervous that my OB will chastise me & make me feel really bad about it, I am currently trying to lose weight by excercising & eating right but I have lots to lose & would no doubt still be overweight when I fall preggie, unless it takes another 12 months :hissy:

I put alot on when DH went away to the Middle East on deployment with Defence for 7 months, eating for comfort me thinks :o

How about you?

Ciao,
Brooke.

anyway I had no probs at all and i am about 30kg over weight.

Sorry to hear that this is happening to you:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

No my OB idn't make me feel bad- and they shouldn't. I put on 25 kilos when I was pregnant and my Dr said - "don't worry I have seen worse, some women put on much more then that" Put my mind at ease. I went home and ate more coco pops.

Thanks for the replies ladies :hugs:

I'm not preggie at the moment, would love to be but hasn't happened yet :(
My OB for DD didn't even weigh me but then I only gained 10kg whilst preggie with Liv & weighed at least 20kg less than now :o I didn't worry about my weight at all while preggie with DD, had a fabulous pregnancy:cloud9:
I just worry that because I am so much bigger now that the OB will be horrible to me & bring up my weight all the time :(

Ciao,
Brooke.

My Dr never even weighed me..

He just asked at each checkup if I was putting on weight... because I SHOULD be, and it was much more of a concern if a pregnant woman WASN'T, because of the risk of malnourishment to the baby.

He was an awesome Dr.

My OB never weighed me either, and I would have been about 128kg at the time I feel pg. He never mentioned my weight...I asked if there were going to be complications because of it and he said, maybe, maybe not...we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. I ended up losing 12kg during the pregnancy and he was happy with that, but I was never "chastised" or anything. Even while ttc#2, I am currently 111kg and losing more, but seeing my gyno, endo, etc...there have never been comments made except for the encouragment to continue losing weight to further my chances of getting pg (we've been trying for 17 months). Hope that helps! :)

I was weighed at my first Obs appt by the midwife and I said something like-
"I can't look what it says"
and she said to me- "you are preg so you are bound to put on some weight it's ok"
and I was never weighed again and the Obs nor midwife never said anything again

Thanks for the replies

My OB, from when I had DD was fantastic, he never said anything about my weight, not once did he mention it but then I was only slightly overweight at the time not 29 kgs heavier like I am now :o
The only time it was mentioned was at my 20 week scan, the technician person doing the scan made a note on my file about body habitus not allowing ideal evaluation
I just worry that I am going to be made to feel bad for being so heavy & that I'll be chastised at all my appointments :(
Did anyone experience anything like this & if yes how did you handle it :detective:
Like I said I'm not preggie yet & from past experience have no reason to think that my OB will be horrible but I'm so much bigger if I fall preggie anytime soon.
I'm losing it by excersising & healthy eating but still need to lose at least 20kg :dizzy:

Brooke.

i am at least 30kg overweight and i have never had an issue with either of the obs i had. i asked about my increased risks, they were honest but lovely and i had easy, complication free pregnancies. Never felt bad after an appt and it was never raised as an issue! and i had a c/s at the weight of 115 kgs and not a single comment.
dont let your own concerns worry you. If you get comments then find another more caring doc!
goodluck with TTC!:babydust2:

My doctor/midwives haven't said anything at my appointments - but one thing that did upset me was when the ante-natal doctor wrote 'BMI 30+' on my Gest.Diabetes referral form. It annoyed me because no-one had even weighed me (or queried my weight) since my first appt at 12wks, when my BMI was 27 - and this was some 15wks later. Admittedly I had put on a few kilo's but even now my BMI is still not up to 30! So it basically indicated to me that they were 'assuming' my BMI based on the way I looked. How rude! I mean, sure - if they had my weight in black and white then that's fine - it's fact. But to guess my BMI by how frumpy I might look was just insulting.

Oh and another thing is that a couple of midwives insist on using the 'larger cuff' when monitoring my blood pressure. My arm is 33cm and the cut-off for the regular size cuff is 34-35cm. No big deal I know, and I understand they do it to be on the safe side, but it just kind of annoys me a little.

I just realised you are in Adelaide-
where would you be looking at going to have your baby or who would you be looking at for your Obs?
(if you don't mind me asking)

I had DD at NECH in 2005 & had Dr Neil Tamlin, I am unsure if I will go back to him again. I felt un-informed & made a lot of the decisions that lead to my c-section without having all the information I should have

If your careprovider chastises you or makes you feel bad for ANYTHING, you should be finding somebody new. It is NOT up to your careprovider to treat you like an errant child - its up to them to provide you with information and options, and assist you in making your own decisions and understandings.

I think I would be surprised to hear a Dr/OB make a huge deal about your weight these days... I mean if you are already preggers, what can they do about it?

As for TTC, well I am about 30kg overweight :o and not ONCE has it been mentioned in the many visits I have had with my GP and now my fertility specialist. I was thinking that the first thing the FS would say to me was I need to lose weight but it wasn't even mentioned. He told me I am young and healthy and he's going to help us get pregnant no worries.

I wasn't overweight when I fell pregnant, but I have gained quite a bit since being pregnant. My Ob did mention that I will have to slow it down or it may lead to problems.

Unless a womans weight is going to have health affects on her on the baby, I think the Dr's and Ob's need to back off on what they say. An individual knows if they are overweight or not, and it's occasionally caused by a pre exisiting condition ( I know my cousin's wife has a condition which prevents her from losing weight, but she was still successful, etc with her IVF).

7 months of a gulf trip will do that to you hey... I totally understand and can relate.

My obs was a rude d!ck. I wish I had never seen him. he made my pregnancy and birth experience a nightmare.

If I could go back, I would have refused to see him and seen someone who I liked.

Good luck!!! :hugs:

Oh, your FS sounds great, I have been TTC since November 2006, well for all but 7 months of that while DH was away on deployment to the Middle East. Bit hard to BD when your hubby is not even in the country :D I've been thinking that we will have to go down the FS road our selves in the not so near future. I've had some tests prior to having DD & there isn't any reason why I can't conceive or at least there wasn't at the time. I hope my FS ends up at nice as yours & as positive
