Hi guys.. .This is my first thread:)
I was wondering if anyone can share their experience with being on the pill for a long time (10 years for me), ceasing, and how long until your period started again?
I stopped the pill on 22nd Feb
AF arrived on the 25th Feb
So looking at these dates I thought my next period should be due about 24th March (28 days).
Well today is the 29th March and still no AF. To be sure I did a home preg test today and it was negative.....
I have heard from a few different people that they didn't have a 'real' period after the pill, for 2,3 and even 4 months. Does this mean that I can't get pregnant now until I have a 'real' post pill period? Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Coming off the pill it can take some time to get ur body regulated again with AF.. i am unsure about ur pregnancy question but it would all depend on if your ovulating (im guessing that would be the case) I would ask your GP if you are concerned but i definently wouldnt take the first AF as your cycle of how many days because it will vary untill it gets regulated again... sorry for the ramble!

Hi readytotry, I'm in your boat too..
I finished the pill at start of feb at the start of the sugar pills and af arrived a few days later as usual.
My first cyle was 22 days and I'm currently on CD25 with no sign of AF. Had cramping at start of the week and thought she was definately on the way. Did hpt test yesterday and was neg.
It's only been 2 months, but all this waiting for my body to 'fix itself' or get pregnant is driving me :hair: crazy!

I took the pill for 17 years and when I stopped I had one 29 day cycle then conceieved the next month. Which was a bit of a shock. You could try temperature charting, then at least if you need help in a few months time you'll have sheets and sheets of 'evidence'. Doctors like charts!
singleparentchick- It's nice to know this can happen, gives me hope

:)Hi there. When we decided to try for bub #1 I had been on the pill for 8years. Stopped it at the sugar pills had my AF which was due, then never got another as I fell pregnant straight away. #2 only took 2months after going on the pill inbetween pregnancies as well. #3 was also conceived 1st time. Dunno whether we are just really fertile or very lucky. Good luck tho with TTC:D

I was on the pill. Stopped it, bled 2 days later, then ovulated probably a week later and conceived straight away-first go!!
Im actually thinking that if I findit hard to conceive this time I may try going back on the pill again lol
Good LucK!

Hi all,
I am kinda in the same boat here. I stopped taking the pill on 19 February and didnt get AF until 28 March (38 day cycle when i was normally a 28 day cycle on the pill) and when she came (she is still here but it has only been 4 days) i was cramping up really badly and she is extremely heavy with clotting... I had just about every sign of pregnancy so did a HPT (before AF arrived) but it was negative... I think it might take a little while for my cycle to become regular again... grrrr
Does anyone know why this happens?
thanks!

 I'm now up to CD27 - still no AF either, and still no idea how long this cycle will go for
I don't know how some of you girls deal with irregular cycles!
I know 27 days isn't long but after last month's short cycle - it's got me frustrated already. Plus knowing i'm TTC doesn't help!

it can take a long time for AF to come the first couple of times, i have heard of women waiting 58days for their first AF after coming off it!
It all depends on the person how long it will take to get AF back & conceive..its possible to conceive straight away or even while taking the pill (as i did)!
Good luck & i hope you get AF soon so you can start charting & TTC :D

Thanks Trini:hugs:
I did have af 3 days after stopping the pill, but that one doesnt count. Now it is cd39 so I have just ordered from the internet some OPK to at least try to find out if and when I am ovulating! So you think I can still get pg before my af comes?

Your welcome..the AF you had after stopping the pill is just a breakthrough bleed, so the next AF you get will be the real one!
It can be possible that you ovulate before you get your next AF, as you might not have already ovulated yet which is causing your AF to be delayed :)
*crosses fingers for you*
Hi all,
First time I went off the pill I had a 28 day cycle, then got pregnant the next.
I'm just in the middle of my second cycle after going off the pill again, so will let you know.
Hope your af comes soon!

Readytotry, just thought I would share my experience after stopping the pill. I have been on and off the pill for many years, bewteen babies etc. I stopped the pill last July, got AF 6 weeks later, then didn't get another AF for 4 months!!! I then waited for another to come. It didn't and I found out I was pregnant. I am now almost 16 weeks pregnant, so there is hope, but I have to say that waiting for 4 months for AF was a long time. Just bear with it, don't get yourself too worked up and it will happen. For the record, with #1, I fell pregnant 4 months after stopping the pill and with #2 it was only 5 weeks.

CD42 today......
Hi there,
This is my first thread too, so hopefully we've got it right!!!
I have been married for almost 5 years, and in September last year, we decided that it was time to start our family. Anyway, went off the pill at end of Sep 07 after 4 years on it, and was messed up!!! Like you, had my first post pill period (withdrawl bleed) soon after stopping. I thought "great, now I should be able to figure out my cycle," but that wasn't to be... 10 weeks after that inital bleed, I finally got my first real period. (needless to say, I did about 10 tests, hoping that i had been one of the lucky ones to get pregnant straight away. After that, the next one was 8 weeks, then 6 weeks and now, I'm waiting for this months (have been doing the BD quite alot and are hoping that maybe this month, it won't come at all- been 5 1/2 wks so far) I did talk to my doctor and have had a couple of texts done indicating possible mild polycyctic ovarian symdrome, but this didn't happen until early March (after 5 months of erratic periods and emotional rollercoasters.) So I guess I just want to reassure you that it's not that unusual to have crazy periods, and if you were irregular before the pill, than you will probably be even more so for a couple of cycles after stopping, but if things don't get better, see the doc and really voice your concerns.
Good luck!!!:confused::thumbsup:

Hi Krissys,
Thankyou for your post. From what I hear on this forum, a lot of woman have been in this similar situation. I too thought :fingerscrossed: maybe I could be one of those lucky ones to get pg straight away! haha, silly me.... It is just really weird to go from having your period every 28 days for the last 10 years, to nothing for 42 days. I am being impatient though, just so keen :).
Thanks again, and hope you get your :bfp: soon!
:babydust2:to you.
xxx
I hope you have some luck either way soon. All this waiting can drive you INSANE!! :dizzy:and although he tries to sympathise, my beloved husband really has no idea what it's like to go through this every month or so (but he does enjoy the practice, in fact, when i thought I could have been preg the first time, he was a little disppointed as there would be less practice.
I always seem to find that when I really don't want af, thats when she arrives big time, try planning a lovely relaxing holiday (even just for a weekend), and if you're anything like me, she'll be on the doorstep when you're all packed and ready to go.
Like I said, good luck and in the meantime, take everyday as a potential baby making day and enjoy yourself.

i was on the pill for over over 15 years.... from memory (which is horrific at the moment!!) the first AF after i stopped wasnt a "proper" one, then the following month I noticed O and seemed to have a proper period. i got pg within three months of coming off the pill.
good luck :fingerscrossed:

Cd43..... no sign of af.
My OPK arrived in the post today. I think i might start them first thing tomorrow! I bought a pack of 25, surely if I used one a day for 25 days I would see a positive right?

When I came off the pill for DS I had initial bleed, then 4 weeks, 6 weeks and then fell pregnant.....which was fairly quick considering!
This time it has been a very different story. Came off the pill in July, had initial bleed, then 8 weeks, 12 weeks and I haven't had an af since November!!! My sister has PCOS and I got loads of the symptoms coming off the pill this time so have been referred to fertility speciailist who put me back on the pill () to regulate me and bring on an af. I finish the pack in 6 days so hopefully will get an af and then am starting drugs to help me ovulate.
In addition when they did loads of tests to see what was wrong my LH levels were sky-high which meant that even if we had conceived the chances of miscarriage were very high so the pill will bring these back down.
The fs also said that I am more likely to fall pregnant by missing one pill than by coming off it entirely
Not really sure what my point is :ecomcity::ecomcity: but I have had 2 very different experiences from coming off the pill but am still hopeful for my :bfp:.
Think positive, it may take a while for your body to adjust and just enjoy all that bding whilst you're waiting!!!...but if you're worried or have any symptoms / relatives with PCOS, go ask for it to be checked out!

Thankyou Lucysummers :)
:fingerscrossed: for you and getting your :bfp:. I have only been trying for 6 weeks so I really need to learn to be patient. It's so hard because I feel like pregnant woman are EVERY WHERE! My friends are pg, all the ads on tv are Elevit this, and Johnsons baby that! Enough to drive you mad:hair: with jealousy! I know my turn will come, but you are right.... I need to just sit back and enjoy the experience of ttc and bding!
Hey readytotry
I know what you mean about the jealousy thing - and I try so hard to give good vibes and feel really happy for ppl, but there's still that little 'grrr' inside everytime one of my friends gets preggers.
I hope the opk's work for you, I'm thinking of giving them a go if this cycle doesn't end in a :bfp:.
And I know you may have only been ttc for 6 weeks, but if you're anything like me you've wanted a bub for much longer than that!!!
readytotry,
Where do did you get your OPK's from, I have seen them in shops, but only 5 day ons + pg test. 25day supply sounds more promising and cost effective. Will give them a go next cycle if af doesn't come soon (unfortunately, I think I can hear her knocking).
Good Luck:)
I've found some very cheap opk's and hpt's on fertilitysolutions.com.au

It is hard - I know i was impatient already at 6 weeks and here I am many weeks on!!!!!!! I think because DS conceived essentially really easily - I was one of those really annoying people who wasn't really trying (date watching etc) and we just got very lucky...I feel now it was even more lucky having now had my experiences with TTC no 2!
Just hang in there - let your body adjust and things will turn out right!!! :babydust2::babydust2:
