My sister is getting married in August and was thinking of having us (the bridesmaids) in black dresses.

What do you reckon, should they be a colour instead? Has anyone seen bridesmaids in black? Did it look ok?

I'm just not sure about that, I kind of think a colour would be better, but ultimately it's her choice.........I just want to know what others think.

Ooooh yes, they look very stunning!!! I seen a wedding party in black, long slinky kind of like silk material....It was low cut at the front and the straps turned into thick back crosses on the back with a low back....IYKWIM...They were very stunning!!

a friend of mine had her bridesmaids in black, they looked stunning.

her wedding dress was red and they went so well together

Would look brilliant and give great contrasts for the photos- esp the black and whites!!
Plus the colours would never date like the 90s bottle green did :laughing:

I had a friend get married in a white dress with a black front panel, her bridesmaids where in the same dress only opposite..... oh it was beautiful!

I'm feeling better about the black dress thing now!! :) Now just got to find the darn things and buy them! Maybe we should get my mum to sew them up for us?

I am going to be a bridesmaid in March next year and we are either having black or black and white dresses. I have seen photos from some weddings with this colour theme and it looks amazingly stunning!!
I know a website with bridesmaid desses where you can change the colour scheme - PM me if you want the link.

My SIL had her BM's in a Black strapless dress which had a white vertical panel running down the front. It looked really good.

I do think it can depend also if the bridesmaids will look ok in black to IYKWIM.

Yes, I totally agree. That is one of the reasons I'm still not 100% sold on the idea. All three of us who are to be bridesmaids are fair skinned. I have brown hair with fair skin, one has dark red hair with freckles and fair skin and the third is apparently fair skinned too but I haven't met her so I don't know what her hair colour is.

I do like the idea of the black dresses, after what everyone has said, but in light of the fact that we're all fair I just wonder if we'll look kind of washed out.

People with an olive skin tone tend to look best in black. I have always been a fan of the book called 'Color Me Beautiful', and if anyone is familiar with that you'll know that those with 'winter' colourings are the only ones who look really good in black. I'm a 'summer' in tones (hair, skin, eyes) and black isn't recommended for me. Hence why I don't wear it very often.

I got married 2 weeks ago and my bridesmaids were in black. Evreyone said they looked stunning.

Our colours were pale pink and mint green, so the girls had a mint green sash. We went with cocktail style dresses as we married at the beach :)

I've been to two weddings with black bridesmaid dresses and they all looked beautiful. I'd say they were the dresses that I've liked the most out of the weddings I've been to. They all obviously varied in appearance too. I wouldn't worry about it, you will look great. :)

No worries! I wasn't too sure about having black at first, but once I saw the dresses I knew it was meant to be! hehe. I was happy that it's a dress that can be worn over and over again

I was a black bridesmaid :thumbsup: I didn't like the style of my dress but the black looked very elegant. We had all different types of cream flowers in our bouquets which looked great with the black :)

Also with black dresses, you can get out of it a bit cheaper, because everyone sells them! :laughing:

My bridesmaid had a black dress with white flowers on it. It looked awesome up against the red, white and black colour theme we had for the bridal party :thumbsup:

I always wanted to wear a black wedding dress, if I got married. I'm now engaged and I'd still love too....:o

I think black dresses are sliming, and suit just about everyone. Whereas other colours dont always suit every bridesmaid in the wedding party.

And I too have seen pictures of bridesmaids in black and looks great.

black bridesmaids dresses are gorgeous! My best friend wants black aswell and I think it will look fantastic. Black always looks elegant and classy. And it never ages.

Heres a lovely example of a black dress that could be worn in a wedding! (put it on to take the pic so excuse the hair etc lol) Was for sale as a bridesmaids dress.

Black birdesmaids dresses can look sleek and elegant.

I wore one for my besties wedding. The skirt was long and fitted with a gorgeous long split up the side. And the top was a fitted boned black bodice with gold flecks through it. It was gorgeous. We had brightly coloured flowers which looked lovely.

But the best part - its the type of skirt/dress you will wear again!

I know it sounds weird, but looks great! Using the right colours to compliment it can look stunning. Went to a wedding last year and the girls had a steely grey, it looked good too. I think the trend is going away from bright contrasting dresses to more subtle, have seen some great latte/coffee coloured ones as well.

Ive seen it done before and as many people have already said- its very classy and elegant. Easy as anything to dress up, and the bouquets are endless!!!
I saw someone get alot of the photos done in black and white. Sheer elegance- it looked amazing.

i want my bridesmaids to wear black. i was thinking that they could choose a colour to wear around their waist and the groomsmen would wear matching ties or shirts.

Also if you can get one that doesnt look very formal, then you can re-sell it or even wear it again.

I was one of starlets bridesmaids and I loved the black dress. I felt very classy.The whole wedding party was beautiful, especially Tracey. What an angel:angel:

I had black bridesmaids dressed that had a sash under the bust the same colour as my wedding dress. We bought them off the rack at Myer on sale for $150. My sister was 30 weeks pregnant with twins at my wedding, and we just got her a large size and altered it. It's come in handy as next weekend I'm wearing it to a friends wedding. It's really a lovely dress.
