Does anyone have a breadmaker that's been sitting around doing nothing for ages? I do, and it's because slicing the bread always seems to end in disaster.

I have an electric knife, and I even bought one of those slicing guides (from the $2 shop, so it's not too flash  ) but I still don't seem to get it right. It's always too thick or too thin and I get crumbs ALL OVER the kitchen. grr.

Is it just me or are there other hopeless slicers out there?

Any tips, hints, suggestions. Yeah yeah I know, go to the bakery and buy bread

Invest is a really really good bread knife. The one we have is by Wustof Culinar which, coming in at about $150, ain't cheap. But boy oh boy does it do the job.

I'm with you Cathy, hopeless at the slicing thing but I perservere. I'm the only one making it now though, my husband gave up because of the whole slicing thing!
While we are here I'd be interested in some new bread mixture recipes. Is this the right place or chould I post this in the recipes section?

We've got one of those meat slicing machines that does it, still leaves lots of crumbs though! Yet another appliance in the cupboards. But it does do a good job of the cutting.

I am making bread tonight for the first time in ages - and you just reminded me of the dreaded mess with the slicing :banghead: :banghead: NOthing tastes better though.

I make bread just for the smell that floats around the house. I usually feed it to the birds

Mmmmmmm I love the smell. I have a really good bread knife, but I've never tried it. der. I always use the electric one, but I'm paranoid I'm goig to chop my fingers off.

I'll see if I can dig out some recipes. I used to make a yummy sundried tomato and cheese one.

they should make an air freshner that smells just like fresh bread! :D
but, i guess it just wouldn't be the same...

i used to always cut it with an electric knife without problems. i'd put it on the side, tho coz the top is a bit too crusty & hard to cut thru...
