Anyone else having this problem? :o

I'm 174cm tall and 50kg (have gotten stuck at this weight, can't seem to go any further!).

Body weight, specifically body fat, plays an essential role in the reproductive life of women. And, once you’re pregnant, the existing amount of body fat at conception, and weight gain during pregnancy, appear to influence the pregnancy outcome.
Some women with minimal body fat have no menstrual periods or very irregular ones. About 6% of cases of primary infertility in which there is a problem with ovulation result from being excessively underweight. More than 70% of these women conceive spontaneously if their weight disorder is corrected through weight gain. If a woman weighs less than 95 percent of the predicted ideal body weight for her height, she should receive counselling about increasing her weight to an ideal level.

Body fat affects the release of the hormones that stimulate the ovary to produce an egg and regulate the menstrual cycle. When body weight is within 5% of ideal body weight, these hormones generally return to normal and the ovulatory cycle resumes. i village (http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/fertility/conception/qas/0,,4_161470,00.html)

Hey Love My Tommy Bub I can't help you there I'm now into size 8  (that's what I look like when I put my jeans on) LOL.

But if you want to put on weight eat lots of ice cream, creamy foods & pasta. I went from size 10-12 before DD then while I was pg I went up to size 22 now I can fit into size 8. :yelclap:

Thanks guys

I managed to put on a few kg in 2 weeks, but nomatter what I eat it seems I'm stuck at 50  When I concieved Thomas I was 44kg but it took 2 yrs to concieve him and I plan on doing all I can to make sure #2 dosen't take that long!!

My dr is being great too, I see him in a few weeks, he was talking about putting me on clomid or something similar when I last saw him 3 months ago!!! :smiliedance:

I'm also working on getting Tom on 2-3 meals a day so he'll be breastfeeding less and hopefuly that'll help too, both with the conception issue and gaining weight.

I have heard that breastfeeding does make you loose weight but I wouldn't know as I bottle fed.

hey there, me too. i'm with you.

I'm 157cm tall last time i checked, and i weigh 41kg.

When i fell pregnant last time i was 37kg. When i had my m/c at 14 weeks, i had gained6kg, and was at 43kg. Since then ive gone back down to 39kg and back up to 42kg then down to 39-40kg and slowly now gettin higher, just weighed myself then on digital scales and it said 41.0kg.
When i fell preggers last time i was worried about my weight, but the doctor wasnt concerned too much, as long as i was eating right. When i had the m/c i asked if it had anythin to do with my weight and was told a flat out no, that many many women of small stature and weight go on to have happy healthy babies.

mymother, father and two sisters are also "skinny", tho i'm the shortest, my eldest sister is taller and looks skinnier, and she has two healthy sons.

i'm in proportion, just on a real little scale. The most Ive ever weighed is 45kg. That was when i was 17 (seems a long time now, only eight years but) and still had a bit of "puppy fat"

I love my food, and i eat alot some days but i can never seem to keep weight on. i am tryin tho! i wish i had a personal cook on hire just for me! I hate cooking! Lucky my DP doesnt mind most of the time.

Anyway, yea, if you like, i'll be your weight gain buddie, as it seems too much to me in my life that im the only person thats tryin to put on weight, all my friends are tryin to lose weight and dont really like talkin to me about trying to put it on, like how dare i whinge about it. Mind, doesnt stop them from tellin me im unhealthy.

Accordin to the national height/weight chart, i'm supposed to be 55kg, but ive had three doctors agree with me that i should strive for 45kg and they'll be happy, because bein that my whole family is slight of build, they take that into account
:ecomcity: :ecomcity: :ecomcity:
so long story short, yea, lets try and put some weight on togethr and keep it on!
thanx for startin this thread, i think its a good idea, give each other some support too many people are too quick to assume that you have an eating disorder when your petite. i'm rapt i'll have someone who understands to talk to about it!
take care!

Hello

I'm also with you...I am 170cm and 47kg. I want to TTC in a few months and know that my weight probably doesn't help. Then again I was 52kg when I conceived Em so hopefully a few days of big indulgence will get me up there. The problem is getting it to stick.

I think a combination of BF and not drinking that knocked me under the 50kg mark! I stopped BF a couple of months ago but I still haven't gained the weight even though I am still eating the same.

jomarie - I hate it when people assume that I must have eating disorder...I even had an ECHN accuse me of putting my body image before my daughter as she was fully BF at the time and she didn't think I would be producing milk as i was 'starving' myself. We weighed Em 10 mins later and she was up in the 90th centile. Hardly a child going without food and I know her Mum wasn't ;)

On that note I am off to great breakie!

Yay! I think that makes three of us then!

Dimarie - My dr has said my weight probobly isn't why I had trouble ttc, and I know it wasn't why I lost my baby (I was assulted) but I figured even if its not I owe it to my kids to be as healthy as possible, and hopefuly that will make some differrence in the ttc dept!

Claire - After having my son I was about 54kg but I got a tummy bug when he was around 4-5 months old, that in combination with breastfeeding and I dropped a LOT of weight! I'm aiming for between 55 and 57kg.

I have been eating alot of potato and pasta (my clothes are being starched from the inside) and drinking alot of egg flips, milkshakes and milo with extra full cream milk powder. All that worked for a week but seems to have stopped. Also been walking and doing pilates to make sure all the weight becomes lean tissue rather than fatty tissue. I'm pretty nicely toned which I'm very proud of, and I don't look as boney as I did pre-baby which I'm also proud of, but there's still work to do!

Hello Amy and Claire!
Sorry its taken me so long to reply, I've been completely consumed by the 2ww and hpt's.
How are the both of you? Gained any weight? how are you both feeling?
Well, i wasnt happy because my weight went down the other week! To 40kg! I was NOT HAPPY!
And it didnt make any sense because I've been eating quite well!
Okay, so, i was abit woried that I may not of been ovulating due to my weight, but i guess i was because I"M PREGNANT!!!!!(Very Happy on that account!)
So now I am even more concerned about putting weight on!
I'm eating pastas and potatoes, and vegies and red meat, and sandwiches but I'm running out of ideas. Plus i can only drink so much milk milo before it starts to get to me!
Its a bit easier at the moment because I'm always hungry! but I was wondering if you had any good ideas of meals that help with gaining weight!
i'm back up to 41kg now, want to be as healthy as i possibly can for this bub!
Well, hope to hear from you both!
All the best!

OMG dimarie - CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is excellent news...I am so happy for you :D

I put on 17kg with Em and without trying. I ate 3 good meals a day and my body naturally just took what it needed. Our bodies are amazing things! How are you feeling? No morning :barf: I hope!!? What is your EDD??? HURRAY!!

Amy - I am so sorry sweetie that you had to go through your loss and because of such a horrible event. It makes me so mad to think that things like that happen

On the weight front I went to a natropath recently at my local health food shop and she swears that Omega 3 and 6 oils (in fish and flax seed) will kick start ovulation so maybe worth a try. She is a fertility expert (its just co-incidence that I talked to her) so that was handy.

As for me, well I have managed to put on 3 kgs! Unfortunately though it all looks like its gone to my tum. I am defs not pregnant yet though as I am in the dreadful TWW. I am due for AF a week on Monday so :fingerscrossed: I get a BFP. If I don't I think I will be ok with it as we are moving house during May and I'll need as much energy as possible.

Have a great Easter and enjoy your choccy eggs!!

Claire - Thankyou!!!:D
I'm very excited! Scared, but very happy!
So, bubs EDD is the 21st December, will be a christmas baby!
As for morning sickness, not really, I mean i felt sick a few times, certain smells make me think I'm about to :barf: but I havnt yet!
What I have noticed is I go from not being hungry to starving instantly!, that middle ground where you go "Hmm, I'm hungry I think I'll eat" had dissapeared and its rather annoying cos I cant cook that fast! Be nice if we all had our own personal :chef: hey! That'd be the way!

We have to move in August! I'll be about 4or 5 months along then! I think I'll start packing up things now while i've got some energy!

So, 3kgs! Thats a start! You're doing better than me!
:fingerscrossed: for you for that BFP! (hey that rhymes hehe!)

Take care!

Jomarie - Congratulations!!!!! That's wonderful news! Here's to a H&H 9 months  As for ideas gaining weight, there's ALOT of things you can do with rice  just dig out the recipe books (or search online) and experiment with cooking, I learned a whole load of new meals when I was pregnant!

Claire - Well done on the 3kg! Keep it up and there'll be a bfp on the horizon for you!

And as for me - I'm still hovering around 50kg, sometimes drop 1 or 2 kg and sometimes go 1-2 over it but not really getting anywhere! Tom however if gaining weight like a champ! Its funny because he's putting it all on as muscle, he's not chubby but VERY solid! I'm still giving him 2 meals a day (trying to get 3 in but having trouble)

{{{hugs all}}}

Thankyou Amy!!!:D , I'm hoping this ones a stayer! if he/she is anything like me then they'll be stubborn already, and will stick around out of pure stubborness if nothing else....hehehe!
Rice! as soon as iread it i thought, thats good idea, why didnt I think of it? Brains not working! But yea, thanx for that advice, now I'm thinking about it I feel like going and cooking some. with bog sauce! yum! i love spaghetti bog! Lately I've only been having rice when I make chow mein, so think I will drag the dreaded cook books out ( i"m hopeless in the kitchen, if you were to watch me, you'd probably get a laugh cos I'm quite unco in the kitchen! moreso than anywhere else)

Its good that your tommy bub is gaining weight! whats his secret? he sounds like when he grows up he'll have all the girls after him, and you'll get to bat them off with a stick! hehe! except the nice ones tho! Good luck with trying to get that 3rd meal in him! I hope it works out!
dont stress about "hovering" around the same weight, I think thats pretty normal! as long as we dont lose too much in one go!
Are the two of you the same as me in the way that it is really easy to lose weight, but a slow almost agonising process to gain any?!
well, Take Care!
I'll talk again soon!
just got hunger pain out of nowhere again so i'm off to go make something to eat!:chef:

Hello Amy and Claire :)
- How are you both? doing well in our weight gaining?

I had a scare ,i lost weight, what the? anyway, now i'm sitting on 40.6kg. How does this make any sense? I'm eating lots!

i think it may be stess related, like cos we had a domestic here where i was attacked verbally and almost physically by this a**hole housemate we had, well, DP stepped in and prevented any physical abuse from happening, ( he was so quick from being in another room to getting between me and that creep to protect me) but well, the whole ordeal, was so not what i needed, and have been even more so an emotional wreck! and the creep ripped us off $500 and stole some of our stuff and threatened to come back etc etc, Some people AAARGH!:banghead: :banghead:

So yea, i'm thinking thts what may of caused me to lose weight, mind, in record time for me, seemed to rise up again. Not all the way, but 40.6kg is better than 38/39kg!

Well Take Care, hope your both doing well! Talk soon!

Hey girls,

I'm on the other end of the scale and am battling obesity but my best friend (ironically) is naturally slim and constantly battles peoples harsh judgements.

For those of you that aren't pregnant have you considered taking the supplements that the body builders take? You can get ones specifically for weight gain. They are basically shakes loaded with carbs. For Jomarie (preggers ) I've heard that Sustagen is really good for supplementing your diet but I was told to stay away from it because of the calorie content so it might be good for you. DH (who is a fitness man) just told me to tell you to eat your high carb meals (pasta, potatoes, etc) in the evenings before bed. I realise this is something that you've dealt with all your lives (or pretty much) so you've probably tried everything. Just wanted to try and give you a little encouragement - even though I'm a fattie I can understand your position. Good luck girls - I'll send you all some of my body's gain weight vibes if you send me some of your body's lose weight vibes . Between us we should even out

Oh Larissa, you are a sweetie! Thankyou! :hugs:
I will check out the sustagen, actually hadnt thought of that...
At the moment, yea i am eating lots of potatoes, and pasta:chef: , but little problem i have atm is i cant sleep at night, even when i lay down in a dark room, i end up tossing and turning and getting up (mind, extremely tired all day, need to reverse my body clock!) but I'm making sure that even when i'm not hungry i eat something every 2hours during my insomniac hours, even if its just abit of toast with vegemite.

And drinking lots of water ( i used to hate water, cant get enough of it now...)

Say thanx to your DH! I always welcome constuctive advice that comes from a well meaning source,

unfortunately in RL the only ones who understand are my DP, my ma, sisters and best friend (who is a guy, so theres no comparisons or competition). Any other friends i tend to make in RL, well, rather aquaintances, most to all of them just assume the worst and are not open to hearing otherwise. its quite sad really as when they are talking amongst themselves (but with me there) they talk about someone who is "too skinny" and "unhealthy" then make comparison to me but adding that the other person is actually bigger than me.. what the? so i've become friends with less and less women due to this, sad!

also i've found that quite a few women have to constantly make remarks on my size in a derogatory fashion in the workplace, out in public etc.. i'm in proportion, I'm just really short and small framed. and i have long skinny fingers too so even when I'm clothed head to toe in baggy clothes, you can still tell I'm petite from my hands... Also i look younger than i am and well i tend to get offended when this happens, makes me upset on my bad days...

On my good days i just tell myself they're not happy with their own image/weight and are dealing with it by lashing out at others...

Thanks again Larissa! :) Its really nice when someone understands! its nice to know that women of different sizes can be friends (RE your best friend who is petite)
I'm sure your not a fattie as you put it, imo women are beautiful in all shapes and sizes but good luck in your goal in losing weight!
LOSE WEIGHT VIBES COMING YOUR WAY! GAINING WEIGHT VIBES RECIEVED & MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Take Care

Thanks Mummabear for taking the time to post those ideas and tips - I might just give them a try

Dimarie - oh hunni are you ok? I can't believe you were attacked like that. You poor poor thing. i really hope that the a***hole is now well out of your life. I had a boyfriend that turned abusive and it was such a betray of trust. I know this person wasn't a boyfriend but anyone that you let into your life and who behaves like that, has stepped WELL OVER THE LINE.

How are you feeling?? Are you enjoying this pregnancy so far?? When is your first scan?? You must be so excited.....!

As for me, well I was due AF y'day and no sign of the evil witch :D I won't test until tomorrow as I did one y'day which was a BFN. When I was pregnant with Em I didn't get a BFP until 4 days after AF was due so not really convinced either way as yet. Last night I woke up and felt really :barf: and with tummy cramps but its probably nothing. Wish me luck - I am excited but nervous too esp if its a BFP! Will keep you posted!!

Have a great day and I will let you know how I go tomorrow (I have been super slack on this thread recently as we are about to move, so I've been packing up, but promise to improve!!) :D
