Do you heat your bottled milk?

I'm new to bottle feeding, i've just weaned DD after 9 months. I was just wondering whether you need to heat the water for the milk.

A mother in my mother's group told me it was pointless, as they need to get used to drinking room temp milk, in case you're out and can't heat up the bottle.

I always assumed you'd heat up the water, so it was similar to breastmilk... and that's what I have been doing..

Should I start giving the milk to her room temp?

What do others do?

For DS I always heated the bottle... then when I was BF DD and had to express I had a revelation... that milk that came out was hardly warm, just room temperature. So as a result I just fill the bottles with boiled water once they have been sterilised and leave them on the bench. DD actually prefers room temperature now! Poor second child.......

Nope i don't heat it, never have. Its so much easier to not heat it up. Theres really no need. If bub is happy to drink it room temp, then why not?

I find it so much easier for out and about, i also use the tommee tippee formula dispenser things that sit inside the bottle and i put them next to bed for night time feeds, saves me having to get up during the niight to heat a bottle up.

But its up to you, but it is easier to not heat it up

Well in saying that... I tried her on room temp milk tonight, and she actually seemed to like it more! She guzzled down the whole bottle so quickly. Previoulsy I was warming the water till it was almost hot! :confused:

I never knew breastmilk wasn't that warm!

I never used to heat the water either. So much easier when your out and can't get access to heat it up too.

I was heating DS2's water up till he was about 2 months since then he has room temp water in his bottles and is fine with it.

Looks like I spoiled Ds, I use to always heat his bottles, I would take a little fernus thing, oh cant think of the name, you know the insultated bottles you put boiling water in.

Anyway it was a small one, and I'd fill it with boiling water, and it stayed hot for days. And use the lid from that to sit the bottle in to heat it.

So I would take that out with me. Or I'd use warm boiled water, still warm from being boiled at home.

I didnt always heat them, if it was a hot day I'd give it to him room temp, or his water was room temp.

I was heating the bottles as I was keeping boiled water in the fridge. Now I keep the bottles out and he likes the room temp. Soooo much easier and he does not seem to mind. The bottle warmer was a waste of money......

:eek: Omigoodness!! I have always heated my DS1 & DS2 bottles, now after reading all your replies, I'm going to try just giving it at room temp - that would be MUCH easier when out!!!

i heated DSs bottles thru the coldest parts of winter, but other than that its always been room temp!

Mostly room temp water here, I just leave the bottles filled with the required amount of water on the bench overnight for the next day.
If its been really cold overnight and the bottles are slightly chilled, ill heat it up to take the chill off.

:iagree: Thats what i've always done... once i weaned DS i figured that bf milk should be room temp so gavve him formula at room temp only heated it up to take the edge off on cold days

DD seemed to prefer it when it was nice and warm rather than room temperature. Each baby is different.
