View Full Version : Do you think it is necessary to track?
I dont know what all your technilogical terms mean. With TTC'ing but I wanted to know do you think its necessary to track all these things so many of you list once you have decided to TTC?
I dont even know what that means but I know its trying for a baby.
Or can you just start you know doing the deed?

Depends I suppose on how much you want a result.
We just went with the flow TTC#1, and after 18 months...NOTHING. I finally saw a Doctor who taught Billings, and then once I had an ovarian cyst aspirated (which I did not know I had), I was pregnant about 2.5 weeks later, at age 23. That was the most frustrating 18 months of my life. And it was so long ago that there were no OPKs (Ovulation Prediction Kit), either.
10 years later, we were TTC #2. We tried for 6 months using Billings before I went to be checked out. Then I decided to buy an OPK, which were available, but not at all cheap at the time (over $50). I fell that cycle, and a month later the supermarket started stocking cheap OPKs!
A couple of years after that, we decided to try for #3, and nailed it first cycle, using a supermarket OPK.
It depends on how much of a control freak you are (I'm guilty), how old you are, and if you have any other imperatives for wanting to get a pregancy underway, I suppose.
TTC means trying to conceive :)
I have wondered the same thing. I think dh and I will just BD all month. See what happens.
I suppose if you have trouble conceiving you would be more likely to track so you can see what is happening with your cycle.
Anyway goodluck! Hope it happens quickly for you :goodvibes::fingerscrossed::babydust2:

No - and to anyone who has just decided to try and have a baby .....I would say dont chart or track your cycles. Record which day your af starts and finishes each month and thats it. Have sex every 2 days or so and see how you go.
TTC should be wonderful and beautiful. You are making a baby together. Dont make it clinical too early on :D
If after 6 months or so you havent conceived ....then maybe chart for a bit.

My DP doesn't like BD'ing all the time.
He says it makes it 'less special'.
I know it's a sweet thing to say, but geez...
I NEED to track and find out when I O. Mainly because I need to not BD for a few days before then, so when it is O time, he will want to BD because we haven't in a few days.
I have to be smart and sneaky with TTC. He wants a baby, but doesn't really like me talking about it and putting it in his face all the time.
:iagree: with Katie's Mum! Making a baby should be natural, fun and not routine.... which is what we are still learning, 6mths down the track lol
If you are just starting to TTC you don't need to chart for at least the first 3mths anyway.... that is of course as long as you are BD every 1-2 days and not leaving it any longer than that, every 3 days is not enough if you ask me, and just relax and hopefully you are one of the lucky one's that conceives quickly....
My experience..... we just BD every 1-2 days from cd7 til cd22 and i have a 30 day cycle so definitely got the fertile days but no luck after 3mths..... sooo to make sure i was ovulating, i started charting and i have been for 2 cycles now but no luck and onto cycle 6 now.... but at least i know i ovulate which is great thing about charting... it shows that you ovulate, well, if your temps do the same each month anyway....
I am now cycle 6 and we have just decided early in this cycle that i wont be temping or charting.. just recording when we BD and if any changes in CM (cervical mucus).... everyone keeps saying 'relax, take it easy' blah blah so we are going to do just that! see if it works! it didnt help us the first 3mths so maybe it will now? who knows.....
What I do know, is that charting and watching your temps go up and down can be very upsetting yet also very interesting to learn your body etc so there are positives and negatives and you need to decide what is best for you....
Good luck!:goodvibes:
This is going to sound gross but someone said not to often so then he wants to does it make a difference if you do it too often because then he will have less sperm when you are uh what was it oing?? LOL i have no freaking idea.

Well I've heard that you should BD every second day around O time.
When your not fertile, you should BD every 5 days because it lets the sperm build up again or something
When do you O i dont evenget my periods. I havent had them for years!

Yes, they recommend you leave BD about 3 days, so the male has enough time to regenerate new sperm. Plus it makes them want to BD more ;-)
If you google ovulating there is heaps of info for you to read. However, if you haven't had a period for years, it might be bit harder for you to guage when you are ovulating.
Have you gotten a checkup recently?? Before you TTC they recommend you get a check up, cause you might need to renew your Rebulla immunisation & other things, which you can't do once your preg. Also a good idea to check out that your dentist can do things once your preg, cause a lot of their drugs can be harmful & could be the worst thing if you fall preg & then have to have a hole filled, or whatever.
If you haven't had a period, due to whatever reason, you might do well to start charting, at least recording your temps, cause that can give you some idea & therefore you can work out when you're Oing. But make sure you see your DR to have a check up.
Good luck!!

Sorry to say - with the further info provided I have changed my mind ......
If you have not had a period in a long time, it is unlikely that you are ovulating normally. I would go to a gynaecologist and have a general check over to find out why.
Unfortunately, if you are not having a period, (even if by some slight chance you actually ovulate) your endometrium (lining of the uterus where the fertilised egg implants) is not being built up and broken down each month, so implantation is extremely unlikely.
Often whatever the issue is, it can be sorted out quickly and easily .... it doesnt necessarily mean that you will have problems, but you will need to see someone.
ETA
In relation to how often to bd .....most fertility specialists will tell you every 2nd day on average. If your DH has a normal to high sperm count, every day is better as it is better for shape and movement to refresh the sperm more often.....if his sperm count is a little lower, you can still conceive easily (normal is 20million sperm per sample ...so lots and lots - it only takes 1) but you should bd only every second day to allow the sperm numbers to build up.
All in all - for anyone starting out - I would suggest if you have a 28 day cycle (from the start of 1 period to the start of the next) bd every day from day10 to day18 and every 2nd day outside of that......
Good luck
Thanks for your help I am reading up on it all now.

Sorry but you can't ovulate if you don't have a period. You can get your period and not ovulate but definitely no period = no ovulation. This is what made me seek specialist help - hopefully for you it is something simple and you can get your body on track soon.
