I've been using Confirm ovulation testers the past 3 months, and although have found them good, they add up in price each month.
Have just heard about Maybe baby testers......
Two questions:
1) Are they worth the investment. Saw online they are between $60-$80?
2) There are some second hand on ebay. Having never used them before, is it the type of thing that is ok to buy second hand and easily sterilised?
TIA

I've heard they aren't that great.
About 90% of people say they are ****, while 10% say they worked for them.
Who knows
 I used one and thought it was sh!t. I ended up using the ovualtion kits you buy from the supermarket, which is much more accurate.
Save yourself $80 and as for buying on the internet, OMG gross! You actually use saliva on them and i'm pretty sure that after a certain time they lose their accuracy, not that i found it accurate in the first place.
You also can't use them within 2 hours of eating or drinking and things like toothpaste can affect the result. Trust me save your dollars and get the kits that test your urine.
Hello,
I used the Maybe Baby for quite some time. It worked for me in as much as the "ferning" effect was obvious at the time of ovulation. However, you have to make sure when you put the saliva on the glass that it is done properly, took me a while to get the hang of it but once I did it worked well.
I would definetly not buy a secondhand from ebay, I would only get a secondhand from a friend or known person if you know what I mean. Also, if they have been treated roughly the bulb may have blown or it could need a new battery. I bought mine from the Chemist Warehouse which was alot cheaper than the normal chemists.

Thanks all for your comments.
Will ditch the idea of a second hand one for sure.
Still giving thought to buying one, maybe I'll check out how cheap they are locally.
Thanks for the tip on chemist warehouse.... i will check them out.

Well I thought they were great and if you use it properly do work, and I can't see how a they would lose their effectiveness over time (unless the bulb was blown). They do require saliva to work but it's just like using a microscope (well that's exactly what it is - a mini microscope) and well I wouldn't have a problem using a large microscope to check saliva, so don't see the difference really.
I have one but havent been able to tet it out properly yet cause of the meds i'm on, i got mine off a friend, i nearly brought one on line.
I def wouldnt pay $60 i wouldnt pay anymore the $30 But i havent had the chance to test it properly.
Good luck hun.
Hello again,
A bit of advice, if you use it when you put the saliva on, before you put the "sample" back into the tester, make sure it is completely dry or it won't work.
I used to do the sample first thing, then have a shower, do my hair etc etc, then after about 20 mins put it back together and check. I also didn't have it in the bathroom as the steam doesn't allow it to dry properly. I tried drying with a blow dryer but for some reason it didn't work if I used anything but natural drying.
I found a cheap place to get ovulation predictor kits, pregnancy kits etc etc. Go to
Downunder Home Pregnancy & Ovulation Tests. They are based in Toowoomba and are heaps cheaper than buying from the Chemist even with postage thrown in. And you can buy as many or as few as you like.

Thanks Jesmon, will check it out
I found it a bit vague. There was a tiny bit of ferning when I ovulated but nothing dramtic.

It was great for me. I had clear ferning patterns, and will definitely be using it after this baby to avoid pregnancy, because it was pretty effective at helping me identify when I ovulate. I found that you have to leave a pretty thick layer of saliva on the glass bit and leave it to dry. If the layer is too thin, or you don't let it dry for long enough, you don't get any pattern at all.
