Info from women who have given birth at Gladstone Public Hospital QLD
I am particularly interested in the following, but please feel free to elaborate!
Staff attitude
Facilities
Your feelings on how you were treated
Your overall experience
Whether your preferences were acknowledged & followed(I have cut and pasted this question - the original was for Nambour)
:sunshine: Thanks
Well i havnt givin birth in the gladstone hospital but i have many friends who have. All of wich gave me different storys. Some were bad other good....
I personally dont like the gladstone hospital. When my son was sick they didnt do anything to help me...
When my best friend had her 3rd they decided at the last min she needed an emergancy c/s. Not to mention the all were figthing about it in front of her about what to do as the babys hart rate was dropping off.....
But then another friend she they were just fantastic when she gave birth....
I think it all depends. Make your feeling known and tell them what you want also make sure your hubby or supporrt person knows what you want so when you cant communitcat they can do it for you...
Good luck.

Thanks Shell
Its only an observation but it seems soo many women in this town are mothers and therefore have a lot of insight into birthing here in gladstone and yet only one person seems open to sharing their experience. Also I cant help but notice the large amount of pregnant women here also and still those with insight cant be bothered responding... (Or does it only seem like there is a fair sized ampount of women from this area accessing this site?).
I posted another Question in the CQ bit specific to GLADSTONE and again only one reply? What the?? How does a women in a new town find out any info or attempt to fit in when no one even notices???? geez.. excuse the rant :ecomcity::ecomcity::ecomcity: but wheres the love??? lol
Again if anyone has the time to share their experiences please go for it... Apart from books and my monthly Dr appt I am none the wiser...

Hmm here goes!I have birthed all 3 of my children there and I was a birth partner for a very good friend so I should be able to answer your questions!
Staff attitude- Honestly, on the whole sucked. Sorry for the choice of words but that is the best way to describe it. There was 1 or 2 extremely lovely midwives and the rest were arrogant, ignorant and unhelpful in every way they could be.
Facilities- I quite liked the facilities and with each subsequent birth I noticed that they got nicer.
Feelings on how I was treated- Honestly again:D, regretful. I regret that I went there instead of private. My first birth was horrid, my second was awesome ONLY because I refused any of the midwives to touch me/interfere in any way.I think that's why I went there again for my 3rd. (which by the way was worse than my 1st)
As for my friend, she was 16 when she gave birth.Desperately wanted to breastfeed and the midwife laughed at her and said "why bother, you won't keep it up anyway"
Overall Experience- Extremely bad to the point where I contemplated suing them. With my 3rd baby (and you can check the old threads if you wish it's all documented here!) my waters broke 14 days before they would induce me. They kept me in overnight then told me to go home the next morning and refused to do a scan to test for fluid levels. They flat out didn't believe me and wouldn't check even though I explained over and over that it was my 3rd baby and I knew the difference between waters breaking and 'weeing' myself as they suggested. Oh and when I did give birth, they commented on how 'strange' it was that their was no fluid:banghead:
Preferences- Definitely were not followed with any of my births or that of my friend.
Sorry it's so negative but I thought I'd be honest:)
Sorry but i also have another negitave story...
A friend of mine went into labor with her first on Early Sinday morning like 1am she went to the hospital. I was told the at 5PM Monday she was still in labor and they then decided baby was facing the wrong way and wanted her to have a c/s. They told her at 6pm she would go in....
Anyway they then decieded to ue forceps to no avail and she went foe her c/s at 8pm!!
Now WTF!! They then decided after her baby was out that her pelvis was to small.. Like dont they work that out when your pregnant?
Dont you think they would not have tired forcepts after such a long labor anyway??
I dunno im starting to hear alot more negs the pos about the gladstone hospital...
Im so damn glad im moveing back to WA in a few months as i loved my birth experiance. Not so much the conflicting breast feeding advice but while i was in labor and also in recovory there were some damn great midwifes! So i will be more then happy to go back there agin...
Its a sahme about the gladstone hospital as there is so many mums to be here you think they would pick there standars up.

I haven't had a bub there but my neighbour at the time did. The antenatel appointments got me. Go in take a number and you get seen when you get seen:eek:. Great make a pregnant woman sit a wait. i didn't hear much about the birth itself but she had problems leading up that in the hospital where I had DS would have required her to stay in more than likely have an early CS or be induced.
I didn't mind their normal facilities (ED and such) but we only delt with them when it was an emergency (like when DS split his eyelid open). They were great that night. Weighed up the pros and cons of the glue (it didn't need stitches). I thought the were great with DH when he went in t couple of times too. But they are very different areas of the hospital.

Absolutely shocking 1st birth in Gladstone Public Hospital for me!! :hissy::banghead::hair::crying::eek::mad: Can i add any more emoticons to explain how they ruined me and my life??
Staff were my main problem.. just rude rude rude, blunt, matter of fact, unsupporting... i was a 1st time mum (not that it should matter if i was 1st, 2nd or 3rd timer) and i was HAVING A BABY for goodness sake!.. they all acted like it was just another day at the bloody office.
I have been so traumatized by my birthing experience that i have been seeing a pyschologist for the past 14 months and have just started going to "Healing from birth" support group meetings at Toowong held by Birth Talk : http://www.birthtalk.org/index.htm
If i had only been treated with dignity, had things explained to me while i was laboring and given the support and human sympathy that i very much needed i know i would feel differently about my sons birth even though it was 24 hours in length.

so it seems gladstone hospy appears lacking  i found that the midwives in the day clinic were lovely.. unfortunately tho the woman who was on when i delivered wa in no uncertain terms a B!tch.. a snooty english B!tch lol and unfortunately i was to be abused the night after i had my bub by another snooty english B!tch midwife. A real disappointment, forced intervention, i can only applaud the doctor who came in and did what the midwives were sposed to, which was to support and guide me to get my baby out!! basically after hours and hours the middys concluded id need a cs (i wouldve had it greatfully after all id been thru prior) anyhow the dr came in agreed to the cs but offered to support me thru one last go if i chose while a consulting dr was called.. Anyhow by the time the other dr arrived bubs head was out.. no need for the cs and i gorgeous healthy bubba
