Just want to start something fun, and thought it would be fun to compare our babies sizes when they were born, and see who had the biggest or smallest...

I'll start.....

My baby boy Joshua was 9lb 1oz... OUCH!!!

Eloise was 8lb 2oz (or 3.69kg) and she was 51cm long. :p

Glad I didn't have a 9 pounder - we were sure we were going to though - I was 9 and a half and my partner was 10 something!! :eek:

Also - she was 3 days overcooked...

Hi Milkshake, My 3rd baby was 9lb 1oz, too! I've equalled the record. Baby no 1 was 8lb 4oz, baby no 2 was 8lb 12 oz, baby no 3 was 9lb 1oz and baby no 4 was 8 lb 4 oz. So it isn't entirely true that they get bigger each time - only til number four! My number 3 was 10 days overdue, so maybe I don't officially qualify. Number 4 was also 10 days over, and was still smaller. Who's next? :eek:

Lachlan was 6 days late (the longest 6 days of my life) and weighed 6 pounds 15 1/2 oz. (just under 7 pounds) - or 3155 gms. He was 50cm long.

I was told he'd be at least 8 pounds (and me and hubby bigger babies) but he stopped growing towards the end (the cord was flat when he was born).

I have a friend whose boy was 10 pounds 3 born! :eek:

Sharni was 8lb 4oz 2 1/2 weeks late. induced 3 times in labour for 2 1/2days pushed for 2 hours still didnt want to come heartbeat staredt to drop so had to have a c/s. Had every drug that was there lol. But I would do it all over again.

2nd was 7lb 2oz and 53 cm long was on his due date
3rd one is still cooking only got 9 days till im due so will let you know how big this one is i hope not to big lol :)

Lena was 9 pound 4 oz, took 4 hours and was 3 days early or 5 days late depends which dates u use. Head circumference 35.7cm and length 49cm... :)

My little man was 5 days early (I demanded to be induced!), and came in at exactly 8 pounds, 3.650kg. I am HUUUGE this time aroud though, everyone keeps telling me it's because my pregnancies are so close together, but I think this one is gonna be a whopper! ;)

Madeline = 1 day early, 8pound 4ounces (3.75kg) and 48cm long.
Michael = 8 days overdue, 8pounds 15ounces (4.1kg) and 54cm long.

What I found more interesting however was that I gained 23kgs when pregnant with Madeline even though I didn't eat much throughout the entire pregnancy and I threw up every day for nine months, but for Michael I gained just 10kgs and ate like a horse with minimal sickness - I guess the weight gain doesn't really mean much in relation to the size of the baby.

My husbands' cousin recently gave birth to her second son - almost 11pounds!! C/S thank god as he got stuck (no wonder!). His size was a bit of a surprise - her first baby was around 6 pounds.

Passing some time whilst the kiddies still sleeping. Find it very interesting reading in this site although have only made a couple of posts.

I have twin boys born at 29 weeks who were 1375grams (3lb) and 1339grams (2lb15oz). They are now almost 2 and have definately caught up after being so small for so long.

We have been blessed!!

I am due again in 12 weeks and am hoping this one is much the same though have heard they usually tend to get bigger.

Travis 23/12/02 weighed in at 9lb 12oz and was 55cm long
Lucy 27/07/04 was a lighter 8lb 7oz and was 52cm long
Lucy was over a pound lighter but with the same size head (37.5cm)

Both were born by cesarean (although I desparately wanted to VBAC with Lucy). Some might think this is lucky because it probably would have been easier to push out a watermelon! A young girl in my mothers group delivered her baby girl naturally weighing 9lb 12oz :eek: . My hat off too her!

Hi there. My daughter was born 9 pound 7 ounces and was 55 cm long with a very big head. She was 10 days overdue and probably would have been longer had they not induced me. She obviously didn't want to come out because there was no action at all until 1.5 days later when I was getting labour pains but wouldn't dilate at all. I eventually had a CS (I'm glad I did now!).

Now she is 2 and weighs 13 kgs and is gorgeous! :)

My little girl weighed in at 10 pounds and 4 ounces or 4.6 kg, I had a vag birth and gas with no tearing thank god. Im 14 weeks pg with our 2nd and am hoping that the saying that the next baby is usually bigger is an old wives tale. :D

DS had to go through 3 hourly heels pricks for blood glucose checks, and he was at the very top of the small baby scale, he was very healthy.

Smaller babies end up on oxygen and can spend weeks or months in NICU.

I bet their mums would have all preferred to go to term and push out bigger babies than have to go through that nightmare.

HI all I'm new to this site, I'm Bel, but thought I should let you know..I was 11 pounds something I'll have to ask mum for the actuall numbers and I was breech...mum was in labour for 9hrs befor they decided to give her a c sec.....my poor mum....

My baby was only 7p 7....I was in fear throughout my pg...thinking that I could have a huge baby...but thank god she wasn't....but I had to have a c sec as she was breech too....must run in the family....

My oldest son was the biggest of my three, 7lb 14oz
BUT I think the size of the head makes all the difference in a vag birth.
The average is 34cms. My ds was 38 cms!!! Eventually came out with forceps after 24 hours of labour. Lots of stitches :eek: !!
But made it easy for the next 2. Not even a tear :o

My dd was born at 8lb 2 oz but continues to grow at an amazing rate that she now is bigger than babies 3 - 4 months older. Not fat but height and body mass. Still trying to work out where the tall genes have come from!

BUT working as a MW I've seen some big babies-5cherubs you have my sympathy. ;)

Sorry to all the other mothers out there that had smaller babies. I honestly did not mean that you were lucky to have smaller babies that need extra hospital care.

To be quite straight up with you Sandy, I think you just wanted to make a scene infront of everybody. You should have thought before you typed and realised that I wouldn't even dream of saying things that would hurt my friends here.. You got your knickers in a knot too soon in my opinion.. both my boys (5lb and 6lb) were in NICU for a 10 days and 14 days due to small internal organs, breathing probs and collapsed lungs, but in saying that my 10lb 11oz bub was in NICU for 3 days also.... breathing probs and a broken collar bone so it can happen to any size bub

Wow, so much variety... Raoni was 7 pounds 6 ounces due on her due date, and Lily was 7 pounds 11 ounces 12 days late... No stitches with either, thankfully, and I only had gas with my first... I think I had great labours with both, about 9 hrs with my first of intense labour and only 3 hrs 45 minutes with my second, and that was only from when my waters had broken (I bet u hate me ha)... I think my next baby will give me hell to make up for it though... Well hope you all have great pregnancies, labours etc, and not too big or too small babies, JUST RIGHT... ;)

There is definately alot of variety here!!! Hi my name is Elle and I am 14 weeks pregnant with #2, here is my story:

I was only 16 when I gave birth to my first child and she was a whopping 10 pounder and 54cm long!!! It was a natural birth with only gas and third degree tearing!!! (ouchie!!!) Her shoulders did get stuck on the way out though but all it took was 5 different doctors to fling my legs back behind my head and she came right out!!! (she was a little blue at first but quickly regained her colour).

No records broken there but we will wait and see with #2!!!

Hi everyone,

well my DD was born last Friday 19th November and she was 9lb 13 oz (4420 grams?), 56 cms long.

She was posterior and after 26 hours in active labour and 28 since my waters broke I had a caesarian. Given the amount of pushing and shoving the obstetrician had to do to extricate her via surgery I am somewhat pleased i wasn't having to try to push her out, not that i wouldn't have welcomed the opportunity.

my second was wait for it..11lb71/2oz (5.200gm) he was born after nine and half hours labour by emergency c-section. His head was stuck!! he was 56cm.

I have now paid for having such big bubs...I suffered with prolapse both vaginal, bladder and uterus. :( P.s I did alll the pelvic floor muscles prior and after birth)
My last bub was born by caessarian due to the fact that my prolapse was so bad I would have probably pushed it out when I was pushing bubby out! This really scared me.
Having put up with such problems as weeing myself and painful intercourse I went to my gyno who gave me a partial hysterectomy, vaginal repair and last year I had a bladder job done and I can honestly say... I can now jog, horseride and do star jumps without weeing myself.... I now feel 100% with a new tight vagina, no periods and a non leaking bladder!
I say to anyone who has suffered with prolapse, go and get it fixed up because you will feel so much better and be able to chase the kids without running with your legs continually crossed...

hmm.. found this forum and couldn't resist. Lucas was 11lb 2 oz (5020g) and 58cm long. To answer the standard set of questions following peoples initial gasp, and crossed legged reaction. Labour started on due date and he arrived the next day, the birth was natural, yes there were stitches, neither of us had diabetes, and no, don't plan on having any more (just yet). A year on and he still sits at the top of the height range, weight is in mid range, he doubled his birthweight just after his first birthday.

My little guy was 5 days overdue, we had a scan done at 38 weeks, and they only estimated him to be about 7lb 11oz, so we didnt think he would be big at all (though judging by my size, everyone thought quite the opposite!) He turned to out to be 9lb 2oz (4.1kg) and 60CM long!!

Now he is still big, at the very end of the chart for weight and height. He is now 9 months old and 11kg!

My first one was 6pd 1 (5 weeks premmie) would of been a good size if full term.
My second one was 8 pound 9 (2 weeks early) would have been over 11 pound the doctor said if I delivered at 40 weeks.
My third one was 8 pound 11 a few days early.
My fourth one was 8 pound 13 this one was overdue.

I am pregnant with my fifth so I am expecting a 9pound plus baby going by my record.

My Husband's Cousin had a 12pound 9 baby and she did this naturally. Just imagine delivering a baby this size. :eek:

I had my little bundle of joy in July 04, she weighed in at just 1656g or 3lb 10oz. She was three weeks early and came in a great hurry. We had her in the car on the way to hospital, my waters broke at 2.10-2.15am and by 2.55am she was born!!

My sister-in-law had her baby two years ago and she was 5120g or 11lb 4oz, talk about opposite ends of the spectrum, I know which one I'd prefer.

i agree with an earlier post....I reckon it's def not the weight but the head size that makes all the difference in how your labour progresses. My DD was only 8 pounds 4 (still a decent size) but her head was 37cm....OUCH! :eek: It took about an hour to push her out with about 25 mins of crowning (though I've heard from mums whose pushing/crowning stage took much longer....hell!! :eek:

(I notice a lot of these "eek" symbols on this thread! hehehe)

I must, like Kara, be super-stretchy, as I had no need for stitches either!! Thank goodness. That part sounds like it's just as bad as giving birth!!! :cool:

Thomas was 8pounds1, Cooper 8pounds 11 1/2, matilda was my dainty little doll at 6pounds 6 1/2. i agree the head size makes all the difference, copoers head was 37cm and matildas was only 34 and believe me i could feel the difference in those few cms, when i had matilda my husband said i made it look easy(i wouldnt go that far, but anyway!) i didnt have stitches either, although i had some bad grazing after coopy, ouch, i couldnt pee properly for 2 wks!(just thought id share that ! i know alot of you are probably going, um bit to much info thanks!) anyway i'll go now :)

When I was in hospital having my youngest daughter who was a sweet 6lbs 6oz a lady who had come over to SA to visit her sister from New Zealand had gone into labour 6 weeks early. She had her son (5th child) within 45 mins then had a shower and calmly said "do the tests you need to do & I'll be back later to pick him up" she said "I know he is a bit small as he is 6 weeks early but he should be okay" the baby boy was 14 lbs 15oz he was massive and she said that he was he second smallest child!!!!!!!!

My first son Angus was only 7pound 9ounces and just under 8 hours of labour and not even a tear, but then my second son Caleb was 11pound 2 1/2ounces and 2 days of labour but he got stuck so ended up having a caesarean thank goodness. now she is 2 and she is very small compared to her other 2yr old friends, she is only 12kgs..(dont know in oz)


My son was born 8lbs 9 oz. He will be 4 in 5 weeks time and he still only weighs 12kg. He too is small compared to other 4 year olds.

I think my little man might come in 2nd place (have read most of the posts, but might have missed one). William was 4.792kg or 10lb 9oz. He was born by caesarean after a failed induction at 38 weeks. He was even bigger than predicted at the 37 week scan, so I'm glad I didn't have to try to push him out. He was 54cm long (parents are both 6 feet tall and his uncle is 6' 6"!) and his head was 38.5cm around.

I had two very average sized babies at 3320 and 3230 gms respectively. :)

However - one of the babies in my daughter's room at daycare was born at home because mum didn't have time to get out the door and he was:

She's a single mum who already had a four year old - who called the "amblience" after mummy dropped the baby on the front porch. She didn't drop the baby - she just didn't make it any further before she had to push!

I take my hat off to her. I thought I was brave doing it with no pain relief ... mine were undersized compared to hers! :o

Raleigh was born at 38 1/2 weeks via C-Section and weighed 8lb 4oz (3735g) 49.5cm long. If I had've waited an extra two weeks I really don't want to think about it. LOL.

Just to add mine
dd1 was 8 days late, 7lbs and 51.5 cms.

dd2 was 12 days late, 8lb 4 and 56 cms long! (see dd1 to see why I was surprised)

though dd2 at 20 months is about 22 lbs (on a good day), average height and the tiniest thing with the smallest bones you have ever seen, so her birth weight and length were well out.

Both were natural homebirths with no drugs and no stitches.

A big hello to everyone!! My little girl Mackenzie Grace was born by emergency caeserean right on time in 2003 wieghing 8lbs 1/2oz. Myself and my hubby were only little babies, (well...around 7lbs), she was 52cms long and had a 37cm head.

I'm due on 11 August so I'll have to post another reply when i have this one! Doesn't matter what size this one is, I don't have to push it out as i'm having another caeser!! :D

He will be 10 months tomorrow and weighs just over 10kgs!! very heavy to carry around!!

Our little man was a bit of a surprise - we were induced at 38 weeks for two reasons, preeclampsia, and our bubs was supposed to be HUGE !! Being our first baby, I tried to prepare myself for a frightening experience (although, as my Obstetrician said, given that my husband is 6ft10in, we would have been mad to have expected a little baby !!).

We popped into the hospital on the Monday night, I was induced at 8:30am on the Tuesday morning, and Hamish was born at 4:10pm, weighing a little 7 lb 10oz ... it seems that those scans can be wrong !!!

Our first bub was a boy, 8 pounds 10 and a half ounces and a little 34cm head

Our second baby was a boy, 10 pounds 8 and a half ounces (lol, yes, opposite of DS1!!) 37cm head, he came out mush easier than our first.

Our princess was born, excpecting to be around 9 pounds going off the U/S, she weighed in at 11 pounds 12 and a half ounces, naturally, no drugs, no gas, no tears :D Head was 38cm, but with her her hand stuck to the top of her head the measurement was 41cms.

Maybe the next bub will be 12 pounds 11 and a half ounces, LOL :)

For me, it wasn't the size of the head but the birthing position I was in that made the biggest difference.

Hi, No3 due December. No 1 boy, 8 pound 9 ounces, no. 2 girl, 9 pound 6 ounces. I am really worried as the jump in between was a fair bit. 10 pound scares me. However I have been promised that the doctors and midwifes may induce me on my due date as I had trouble with no. 2. Both were born naturally and reasonably short labours but were overdue. If anyone has any tips or hints to survive the BIG ONE please let me know. :confused: :eek:

Brent was 2 weeks early and 5 lbs 8 oz and 17 3/4 inches long.

When I was born, I came a month late (due 5/13, born 6/11) :eek: and I was 6 lbs 8 oz and 20 inches long

DH was 3 days late, 8lbs 6 oz 21 inches long.

My mom and dad were both under 6 pounds and full term so small babies comes from my side. I'm hoping this baby takes after her daddy, I want a chubby baby this time! ;)

My first was 2 hours no drugs, second was 40min no drugs, and third son was 10 minutes just made it hospital and still no drugs. The hospital advised that if i have another child I would be safer camping outside ward a few weeks prior,lol, as I dont feel the first stage come on, I go straight into second stage and start to feel contractions and push stage.

O dont you just love nature!!,lol

My daughter who will be two in October was born at 41+ weeks at a healthy 4.210kg or 9 pound 5 ounces, 36-37cm head, 56cm long.

Born drug free in a birth centre. Pushing her out was hard work but I loved giving birth.
Having a bigger baby seemed easier she was more robust, slept through the nights from 5 weeks old (although that changed later on), breastfed well etc

I had my second daughter 2 weeks ago and she was one week early (elective c-section), and weighed 5lbs 1 oz, with a 33 cm head, and 45 cms long....i had some bleeding in my first trimester which scarred the placenta and umbilical cord and stopped her from getting the nutrition she needed, hence being so small. My first was right on time, and 8lbs 1/2 oz, 37 cm head, and 52 cms long.
