Yes looks can be deceiving, I had a scan at 39wks cause I was worried about my size and I was assured that bub was about 8pound same as my first bub, but how wrong were they when I had a natural birth, (got torn) my big bub was 11pound 5!!!! :eek:

It's crazy hey I was expecting this little bubba but then he was a chubby one and was like no way he isnt 6pounds and as soon as he was weighed an she she 8pounds I was WOW. Me and his father were born under 7pounds and were both still little, and our little chubby nubby is deff a growing boy but starting to thin out a little now that he's getting around.

BooBoo Womat - Wow an 11pound 5 baby naturally, well done.

I was thinking i would chose a c-section from the beging, i was terrified of going into labour, but i'm glad i didn't. DD was born at 39 week exactly. She was 7 pond 8oz, 35mins of active labour, so in total i think is was about 12 hours, just felt like period cramping, no pain killers or stiches. My secound is due is September hopefully it will go as smoothly.

My 4.11kg bubba was not at all "fat" at birth, he fit into 0000's for 3 weeks or so...depending on the brand, e.g. Bonds clothes seem to run small, target seem generous. He is quite a petite 2yr old now. My 7yr old was 3.8kg at birth and she is also little.

A couple of things on this "big baby" thing.

I was told my first baby would be over 10lb's - she ended up being 6lb 15oz, I had a cs and believe that due to the length of my scar the Dr had it in his head that I was having a big baby.

After another cs for an 8lb 6oz baby I had my "big" baby 9lb/4.11kg, in less than 9hrs, drug free and with only a 2nd degree tear.

My 4th bub was a water birth at home, he was an easy 4hr labour and he weighed 5.075kg or 11lb 3oz.

It is not only possible to birth a "big" baby, but also totally possible to have a drug free and peaceful birth with a very big baby, I also had no tears or grazes thanks to the water!

tatonka having a 4 kg baby means nothing to say with clothing. My two 9lb 5 (4220g and 4250g) babies were chubbier then my 10lb 2 baby (4600g). And some clothing is all over the place with their sizing. I found that my babies were all too long for most 0000s one pieces but easily fitted into the same size two piece clothes. My babies were 57 and 56cm long born. Also another thing with sizing some clothes are too small in the head size Mine were between 37 and 38cm for there heads (last one was the biggest and absolutely no tearing with him and only the slightest of grazes).
The first of my 9lb 5 babies was bigger as a baby but as soon as he was on the move he thinned out he is now 10 and is in the healthy weight range, the second had a few problems with eating early on and no body would listen to me and as a result she has always been a smaller baby after the birth weight, she is now 6 and is so tiny she barely fits into her school uniforms. And no.3 he is only 9 months and has only just started crawling so he is now 9 kg but he is also tall so his weight is well distributed, but I am sure that is going to drop a bit with him on the move now.
Good luck with it all and remember that you can do it! I just attended my best friends birth of her first child two nights ago and the best thing is making sure she had reassurance that she could do it. My bestie is a short smallish girl and her baby was 8lb 7 bigger then everyone was expecting to come out of her.

Why do they still use pounds for the weight of a baby when we use the metric system in Australia for everything else? It annoys me cos when I hear bout 'baby is such and such pounds and ounces' I have no idea what that is in kilos! Wouldn't it make more sense to use kilos and grams?

They used both at my hospital. My DD was 9 pound 3 or 4.3kg :D
