Can anyone Help??????????

Help anyone!!

My 6.5 month old has for the last few weeks been quite fussy with all feeds except for the morning feed when she first wakes. Its quite stressful as she has always been a good feeder. She is currently breastfed and has slept through the night from Xmas night - 3.5 months.

The situation is this - the day feeds are OK some not some are but the 7pm feed before she goes to bed is an absolute nightmare. She absolutely screams and gets soooooo worked up when I try to feed her. Its very upsetting as I like her to feed before she goes to bed as I know she probably wont wake through the night for a feed. Sometimes she feeds OK but most of the time its just a few sucks then off then on again then crying and this goes on for half an hour.

If we just try to put her to bed without a feed she will cry until I wait another half hour and then feed her and then she will settle. Its like she will not settle until she has had the last feed.

What to do.

Sorry this is so long but its been going on for weeks and I am very upset about it as breastfeeding times where always so enjoyable for both of us.

This is Jades day. Feed about 6am, then feed around 10.00 + farax then feed again around 3pm, pumpkin at 5pm and then last feed at 7pm.
Would anyone suggest me dropping the pumpkin or farax??? Perhaps its all just too much food for her as she was sleeping through from so early and she has always gone so long in between feeds.

Sometimes when she does not want it in the day i dont force her and its 5-6 hours before the next good feed.

Again sorry so long but any suggestions much appreciated.

thanks

Hi - did you realise that you posted in the bottle feeding section?

But anyway, is she teething?

Are you running out of milk by the end of the day? If she is not drinking much, maybe you aren't producing much anymore? Similar thing is happening to a friend of mine. Her bub screams as though the "let down" doesn't come quick enough for her.

Is she overtired? Have you tried moving the last bit of her routine forward, say 30 mins or 1 hour? (eg, feed at 2pm, pumpkin at 4:30, feed at 6pm)

Thanks Len,

I shall try the moving forward part. i think she may be a bit tired as she is not sleeping too much in the day lately.
i also think she could be teething but it seems it has been going on for MONTHS!!!

cheers for the reply and yes, i accidently posted in the wrong section and then could not figure out how to change it.

Hi there,
My DD is always a bit of a nightmare during her last night feed, but this is due to her being really overtired. She hardly sleeps during the day but desperately needs to, so by 7ish she's a mess. My DH often gives her this feed to give me a bit of a break.....maybe by expressing you'll get an idea of how much she's actually getting.
Sorry if I'm rambling (I'm overtired too):D

Hi,
people call it arsnic hour for a reason:D .

Sounds like your doing a fantastic job, stick at it and try moving the meal and feed forward a little like Len said. Another thing to try would be go to a really quite place in the house, dark room some gentle music for the last feed. Also a massage with some essential oils after bath for relaxation.

It dosnt last forever and she may well be teething on top of everything, by the sound of the on/off feeding. Maybe a little analgesic might help with her meal to help with the pain?

hi Guys - thanks so much for the replies. I just needed some sort of input from someone else besides my DH and me!!

milliesmum - thanks for the idea. i think jade is also overtired. she too does not sleep much during the day and yes, by 7.00 she is a tad grumpy. i might try bringing it all forward a half hour and see what happens. she is still overtired by 6.00pm but ya never know!!! thanks again.

Goosie 22 - thanks for the encouragement. sometimes i just dont know what is wrong and its so hard as i always try to analyse everything. i also try bonjela every now and then. also thanks for the link as that had some very useful information
