I wrote 'Accounts Manager' because that's what I was at the time, before going on leave.
This time around I don't know what I'm going to put. Perhaps 'Doula' because it's my only occupation right now other than 'Mum' - :p

I put my occupation down on DS's certificate, and I'll just put the same on this baby's. I only went on leave again in Jan, so it's still right (even though I intend to be at home after this bub fulltime).

Same on both BC for the girls... I was doing the same job both times and while I'm hoping to resign while on leave this time, I don't like my chances...
I pretty mine up by calling it "Finance Administration" it's not, but I work int he accountants area, with them, though my team doesn't have anything to do with them (apart from my boss)...
Always contemplated Abused customer service rep... But it's too long nad then you'd have to explain all the time that you get blamed for missing money from inside and outside the company...
I've babbled now... :o bye...

I put pubicist because thats my profession regardless if I am empoyed or not - its what I am trained as!!
I guess there is a difference between profession and job isnt there.. I mean, I know of a lawyer who is a courier and when people ask him what he does he says courier but it still doesnt mean he is not a lawyer hey? I also know another lawyer who is a self proclaimed 'courtesan' - and she makes more money in two nights than a week at the office.... damn, I know too many lawyers.

I never really thought about it until now, but putting down your real job (as in not something 'cute') can actually be helpful to future generations when they are looking up birth records for ancestral reasons.

 :iagree:  :iagree:
Its actually really difficult to find out what peoples occupations were when you do family history and this makes BDM certificates a wealth of information- some states are better than others too.
I think they also use it for statistical puposes :)

punkbaby - classic!!!
I think I rolled my eyes and wrote 'Mother'
I've always hated the term 'homemaker' as it reminds me of the 1940s-eternally-smiling-creepy-housewives. Or of the Kmart brand. :p But that's just me.

As an avid family historian, these things are very important to me.
In future generations, certificates like these may be our descendants' only clues to how we lived.
I know when I find an interesting or unusual occupation, it often leads me in a whole new direction with my research. If they were misleading, I would waste many hours trying to follow up what they put down as a joke.
It may seem silly now, but one day your great great grandchildren might be wondering about you and what you were like. Just something to consider.

I racked my brains trying to put something that really described what I do-
not just housewife-
I do lots of things- be a Mum & wife, cook for workers we might have staying with us, all the office work for us personally and the station, paddock/shed hand when required-
but nothing sounded right so I ended up putting "home & office duties"
I put home duties. Nothing really desribes what I do, so I just went with the usual.
I would never lie on it, as I think it is great to look back on for our kids and future generations to know what thier parents,/grandparents were doing when they had thier babies. I know I love looking at my parents birth certificates to see my grandparents occupation.
